The train lodge is a beautiful and unique hostel with a warm welcome and a carriage full of charm. We were greeted by the wonderful reception team (who are also open 24h) they explained all of the rules to us and showed us around the carriage and to our room. The train is filled with lovely drawings, photos and games to make it as cosy as possible. It is good value for money and very easy to find. There is good air circulation and the room was a perfect temperature. The main carriage is very social and open, a great place to meet like minded travellers! The rooms were very clean and tidy as was the rest of the train and the whole place felt very safe. After dark the train is locked and a member of staff has to manually open the doors which is a good thing. They also do not give you a key to your room, instead they open it for you and close it upon your request and also whenever you leave the train. Personally, I think this is a good idea as it eliminates the risk of losing your key and paying any extra fees. There were always members of staff on hand and available to help with this. The rooms are unbelievably tiny, but clever. We had a triple bunk bed a sink and our own mini light on our beds. Personally we enjoyed the novelty of the small space but I would suggest to those that like a little more room to ask for a bigger room as you may feel quite cramped and there isn’t any wardrobe space. The train lodge is in a fantastic location right next to a train station and the local trams with Just a short ride away from the heart of Amsterdam. The lodge also offers a cheap but lovely looking breakfast that you can order the night before as well as hot drinks and snacks 24/7 (10/10 would recommend the hot chocolate). The lodge also has an array of little cards with discounts and information on activities, tours, experiences and many more. Such as €5 off a broke rental service you can hire from the lodge and a free cocktail when you go to the “EXTRA cold ice bar”. The only down side is at the time one the the sinks in the bathroom wasn’t working, meaning that you would have to wait to use the other one or the one in your room if someone was in the shower. There are 2 bathrooms and 2 showers so occasionally there may of been a bit of a queue, however that is no different to if you stayed in any other hostel haha. Overall, our holiday was made 10 times better by having this cute little lodge to go back to after a fun filled day in the city of Amsterdam.

It's quite a difficult one to rate, as it's depends what you are looking for. We booked this under the assumption it was a normal hostel with a train theme to it, but to our surprise it was actually an old sleeper train on a closed bit of track. Just be careful before booking it, as it's important to know. The room is a 3 bunk high cabin, which does get very hot. The window opens about 2 inches and the blind can't close if the window is open, so it's either too light or too stuffy. There's very little storage space, so if you've got suitcases and stuff, it's very difficult to fit everything in. You can't lock/unlock with your own key, the staff have to do it. Not many facilities, for cooking etc. They don't sell food except for crisps. Location is good for getting into central, but nearby there are just a few shops and a very expensive restaurant next door, quite difficult to find cheap eats. But, all in all its a comfortable enough place to stay for a few nights, Sloterdijk is very well connected and easy to get into central and to/from the airport. If you're looking for a conventional hostel where you've got plenty of space, easy to charge your phone etc, this isn't the one for you. It's a cool novelty, but anything more than a few days would be very difficult. Give it a try if you want something different.

Like living in a mouse house, but a very clean one. The service from all of the staff was wonderful, especially Pinja. Best location for getting around Amsterdam, train is on your doorstep and only one stop to Centre Station.

Rude: my compartment was smelling terribly to the point I was uncomfortable just to breathe inside, so I used less than 1cm of an incense to clean a bit the smell innocently, and someone else saw and told the owner, who came, turned on the light and humiliated me in front of the others as if I had made a campfire, threatened me to put me with all my things on the street and insisted to throw in the trash my bag with personal stuff where the incenses were (???) even though I made an educated apologize in a calm voice, he was still yelling and pointing fingers at me; I felt really embarrassed and don't think anyone should be treated like this. It was a cool place until this day. I'm curious if this man likes to sleep in a small compartment infatuated with sweat odor.

It is COLD in the room! We stayed for two days, the first day was quite ok temperature however not sure what changed, the second day the room was super cold! I asked the hotel stuff and the temperature was supposed to be raised from 18 to 19 degree by it feels like freezing cold still! I was afraid I would get a cold. The room is very small when we have 3 persons sleeping in it. But I suppose that we pay for the price for it. But I would wish I paid a bit more to get a normal hotel room with our own bathroom and some space to be able to walk around or sit up in the room. That’s correct, shower room and toilet is shared therefore far away from our room, so going to bathroom in the evening is also freezing cold and feels like have to travel through the wagon between sleeps. Noisy - there were quite a few drunk people who talked very loudly when we tried to sleep. Also some people woke up at 4am and cannot be bothered to keep the sound down, so I was waken up by them a few times. It was an experience but I don’t think I wish to try it again.

Charming, pretty, well-priced and safe! Great vibes and perfect for a short trip. We had a very small room but that’s what you get on a budget and the sheets themselves were both clean and comfy

A reasonably priced hostel which is located right next to the Sloterdijk station (20 mins to the centraal station). The staff were helpful. This was a lovely place to stay for exploring the city and having somewhere convenient to get back to for sleep!

A cosy train cabin hostel. The rooms are small as they are just train cabins but the beds are comfy and there’s enough space in between the levels of the beds. Overall a very enjoyable stay

stayed in the 3 bed compartment, which worked for just sleeping but very small amount of floor space. taps were apparently safe to drink (despite signs saying opposite) but so small so couldn’t fit bottle in. very affordable food and drink from the reception, nice space to sit outside. location brilliant, friendly staff

Really nice and helpful staff. Great location so you can easy get to the centre using underground or trams, also very cheap for Amsterdam. Rooms a bit small as in train sleeper but I liked showers which had a lot of space.

A great thing to experience, to say you've slept on a train. The staff are super nice. Definitely try this at least once. And as long as you are ok in tight spaces. We had a good time

great hotel with a cosy cafe and outdoor seating. Good coffee, comfortable seating and lovely staff. The view from the rooms and the cafe are amazing. And it doesn’t feel cramped despite being a train. Shower is hot, and everywhere was very clean.

I made a reservation that they accepted and charged me. Then they canceled the reservation but kept the money! Don’t make the mistake I did. Go anywhere else.

The Train Lodge is a great hostel. Staff was very helpful. Location is excellent next to a major train station and bus depot. Also, a small grocery store and restaurants within easy walking distance. Easy access to both the airport and City Center. My only complaint would be they only have 2 dedicated female compartments, so there were 6 women in our compartment, which made it very crowded. At the same time, there appeared to be empty compartments or compartments with only 1 or 2 people in them. The hostel felt very safe.

Great place to stay! Obviously, the rooms are kind of small, but that’s what you get and should expect from an old train. The “lobby”/entrance area is super cute and cozy, the decoration is super sweet and so are the employees. All of them were very friendly. The bath- and shower-rooms were clean and perfectly fine. The fact that this hostel is right next to a train station isn’t a bother at all, you barely hear them, but you have fast access to the city centre. I personally wouldn’t stay in this hostel for longer time as I need some more space, but we stayed for 2 nights and it was great! Would definitely recommend!

Really nice experience guys that work there are awesome and helpful but you have to find them because they have another work to do rather than be on the host spot because they have a lot work to do. 1 of the shower was causing flood .Bikes are scrappy but they work make sure to lock them 😉

The idea of transforming the used train into something like this is fantastic! The space inside the room was quite small, but entirely suitable for sleeping. Taller individuals might have an issue with the length of the bed since it's not very large. However, it's a great opportunity to meet people and interact with foreigners.

This hostel is behind the station of Amsterdam Sloterdijk, so it is easily reachable by public transport. Rooms are okay: you could be a bit uncomfortable if you're quite tall and you sleep in the bed at the top. It is cheaper than other hostels in Amsterdam.

Connectivity wise the hostel location is great, there is nearby train, bus and tram station. This hostel is about 30min away from city center. Rooms were cozy and washrooms and bathrooms are available. Breakfast of croissant, ham&cheese, jam, nutella and bread, juice and coffee cost us 8Euro. I think it was decent price and you can eat you fill, so its worth it. We just need to inform them 1 night prior and you will get breakfast for next day. We had a car and had parked infront of the hostel as it is free Parking which is a big plus(Free parking on Weekends only).

A very unique experience, it will be an authentic train cabin which means don’t expect a lot of space, but the bathroom facilities were very nice and the staff were very friendly. Our only issue during our stay was the air conditioning unit in our carriage had issues on our last day which was a bit uncomfortable for the person in the top bunk, but if you’re not visiting in the middle of heat wave that’s nothing to be concerned about.

The rooms are very small. About 4 square meter for six people in my case. The ventilation is insufficient, especially if it is hot outside. If the AC is turned on, it can be quite loud. There is almost no ventilation even if the windows were opened as they are very small and open only a few centimeters. Enough for a moving train, but not for a stationary one. Most of the bathrooms are also very small. The beds are also not very large. If you are above 180 cm, you will find your feet and head often touching the walls. The walls to the next room are very thin. It was hard and frustrating to sleep my entire stay as I could hear the people next door talking. I could listen to their conversation, even with earplugs! There are no lockers! You also don't get a key for your room. You have to ask the staff to close or open the doors. In my case with six people, the dorm was always open, as people just left without telling the staff to close the door. Really bad concept! Staff was friendly and helpful! Location is good.

Great Hostel for die in the wool hosteliers at an extremely great price and a great location for public transport and park & ride into central amsterdam. But for a family, looking for an out of the ordinary overnight experience you maybe a little dissapointed. As was expected, the rooms are small. That wasn't a major problem. Although the bedding may have been clean, there was an overwhelming musty smell and rooms were really dusty. But as stated earlier great for a quirky overnight stay for some.

I would stay again. I thought it would be loud with the train tracks right behind but you barely hear them. It's located right next to a train station and bus services. I recommend it for anyone looking for a hostel.

An authentic train wagon from the 60s! which means it’s very narrow and looks old. However, it’s very clean and the smallest part is the room, where you can only sleep. The shower (of the left side of the wagon) is twice the space of a room and very clean, with nice free shampoo and shower gel. The cafeteria is cozy and has a charming terrace which makes your stay (in summer). The staff is very nice, polite and willing to help, specially Camila which is effective and available too. We arrived on a Thursday night and left the following Tuesday and we were cycling through the country so waking up early and going to bed early. We thought we were not going to sleep cos during the weekend large groups of students arrived and the lodge was fully booked, rooms have the thinnest walls I’ve seen and it’s actually beside the Sloterdijk Station’s tracks. Reality was you only need the room to sleep, guests are very respectful, common places are kept clean by everybody, the cafeteria + it’s terrace were never packed, the location is super convenient to move around Amsterdam or the country and you only hear the trains when you are awake (nothing to compare with the constant and horrific noise of a big city so this could be actually considered a quiet place in Amsterdam).

If you want to keep your sanity DO NOT STAY HERE. Staff unhelpful and the room was so small. Each person maybe had 2 feet of living space aside from the tiny bunk that a normal human did not fit in. Towels are 2 euro + 3 euro deposit. They smell horrible and can be seen in a giant pile when you leave. Overall, 1/10 and will never stay here again.

Best place to stay for backpackers. Amazing friendly staff with very welcoming attitude. Hygiene levels top notch. I have a flight late evening and they allowed me to store my luggage and also let me hang around in the lobby. Will sure come back! Enjoyed my stay.

Amazing, Excellent, Friendly, Knowledgeable, & Awesome are the 5 best words to describe this hostel. Very cool to sleep in an old sleeper train and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were so friendly and welcoming! Located right next to Amsterdam Sloterdijk so very easy to get into the centre of town & even though it is adjacent to the train station the cars are very quiet. I will definitely be coming back to Train Lodge! Thanks to everyone especially to the Finnish hostess (Sorry I forgot your name!!) and the Boss man (Sorry I also forgot your name) for your hospitality and conversation!
