My stay at the Amsterdam Downtown Hotel was a disaster. No air conditioning, stained sheets, bed bugs, and chaotic planning. Avoid this place at all costs.

I had terrible experience staying at this hotel for 9 days. Would not recommended to anyone to stay here. 1. Super thin walls. You can hear everything. People walking on the stairs, hallsways, talking in their rooms. Forget sleeping in because you can hear cleaners as if they're in your roo when clesning starts at 11am. Earplugs dont help. I went though 6 pairs and i was still awoken from loud bangs and noises. Its that loud. 2. No refunds despite me asking the very first night. I couldnt sleep first night and management had only room change to offer. 3. Tiny rooms. Smallest hotel i have ever slept in. First room had enough space to walk around the bed. Second room i couldnt walk around the bed. Nether of the rooms you could open the bathroom door fully. 4. Bathrooms are tiny and warer pressure varies. Also no good ventilation. I had to open windows. Bathroom smelled of mold, despite window ventilation. 5. The beds were not comfortable. 6. Impossible to directly communicate with management. The friendly attendants instruct you to send an email with any issues but the management never replied. Very sketchy compared to most other hotels. 7. If you have cat allergies, this is not for you. In the lobbby there are two friendly cats. 8. False fire alarm went off constantly for entire night. Very loud and frightening. Please avoid my mistake and stay at a more reputable hotel

I really enjoyed my stay at the Amsterdam Downtown Hotel. The rooms were clean and the shower was nice. It was in a great location for exploring downtown Amsterdam. I would totally recommend this place to college kids. It is not too fancy, but works great if you aren't too picky about little details. The walls are a little thin, so you can sometimes hear people in the hallway, but that was never a problem after 10pm. There were some adorable cats in the lobby which was a plus. Staff was very kind and accommodating and will look after your bags before/after check in. A great stay for a great price!

We were looking for a simple motel where we could just sleep and shower. We found everything we wanted and more here. They have an elevator, which was perfect for us as we are older and have mobility issues. The two ladies that covered the front desk, day & night shifts were both wonderful. Rooms were well maintained, but cleaning staff hours were inconsistent and caused some confusion with us. Doors close very loud if not slowly closed, so it sounded like someone slamming their door. The location was perfect, as we were within walking distance to Center Core of restaurants, laundromat, canals, stores, and museums. There is a nice sitting area on the bottom floor, where you can use their microwave or have coffee. We will definitely stay there again if we go back to Amsterdam.

The reception staff was friendly, inviting and always ready to help. They where the best. The room was ok, and the beds was soft and great for a 2-star hotel. The cleaning could have been doing the room more often. All in all an fine experience for the price.

Great hotel with everything you need close by. Coffeeshop 2 doors down. Clean rooms and bathrooms. Friendly staff, very close to main shops and transportation. They even had a travel adapter we could use as we forgot ours.

Beds are actually couches with a soft 3cm layer on top, no mattresses. Lift only goes to 2nd floor, to go to 3rd floor you have to go through a labyrinth of doors. You can hear every noise from the adjacent rooms. Rooms are not clean. We informed the staff in advance that we couldn’t make it there the first night and that we would be only 2 people instead of 5 as some of our documents were stolen, we were not offered any sort of discount neither for the first night nor for the remaining stay. Extremely rude people at the reception that do not communicate with each other. The receptionist granted us a special request to spend 1 hour during the night in the longue area as we were waiting for the train, the night shift receptionist told us that’s impossible and that he’d call the police if we didn’t leave. Absolutely horrible behavior, avoid at all costs.

5 star bathroom is small yet I’m a big lad and managed perfectly fine. Four of us shared room third floor. Stairs like step ladders but all adds to the charm of the building. Brilliant coffee shop the dolphin next door but one. Perfectly located close to lovely canals, tram lines and main road through Amsterdam centre. Red light is 11 minute walk roughly. Only complaint bathroom smelt of smoke and light nearest window is faulty. Brilliant price for two nights

ATTENTION!!! When you’re making the reservation! They doesn’t give you any option if you want a window or not. And if you want a upgrade they want you to pay more for the room. They doesn’t help, they only want more money. Very bad service they doesn’t think to help the customer.

Great stay, small room but clean, 3 single beds for 3 guys. Very close to city center, food, coffee shops all around

Very clean. Welcoming staff. Rooms cleaned daily. Helpful. We forgot to lock the same, it was full of valuable items and cash. Everything was there when we returned.

The location is good. Staff stretched too thin, so service is lacking. Rooms very, very small, remodeled nicely for such an old building. Price is good.

First if all I would like to thank all the staff and the reception workers for there assistance and there great efforts. The hotel is small and the rooms are small, but as long as there is a clean bed and a clean bathroom and good location will be more than fine and good for me. Thank you all Downton hotel people

Having 2 nites holiday with 2 friends in Amsterdam. What we need is hotel near the city center, public transportation (we got tram) and shops/restaurants and tourist attractions. We got it Well maintained hotel (rooms and public spaces), though the elevator is so small and some stairs from main entrance to reach elevator (we have big luggages). Friendly and helpful receptionists (day and night shifts). Comfortable dining room under the ground level, using microwave is free but need to be cleaned. There is also public toilet there. We'll come back again.

Staff were nice and helpful, and the location is great. Beware that there are cats in the lobby, so dont stay here if you are allergic, but stay here if you love cats 😸 the room was nice and of medium size, but the bathroom was very cold as it had no heating. The room was clean. Would recommend staying here if location is important to you. There is no breakfast, but they offer complimentary coffee.

+ Great location, quiet street in the middle of the centre + Good price! + Room is small but perfect for a short stay + Room is clean + Great staff, present 24/7 + Security deposit can be paid in cash - You need coins to pay for the coffee machine and if you don't have those, the staff can't help you - The pillow wasn't very comfortable, seemed cheap and wasn't firm at all - You can hear a lot through the walls but if you've read the reviews beforehand, you should be aware of this. As long as everyone keeps their voice down at night it's fine.

😐 It is a large, somewhat impersonal, completely unshaded and extremely noisy campsite (we were in the tented section).Noisy because there is a large multi-lane bridge nearby, which is still very busy at night. Also noisy because of the "cigarette smokers". There are no rules and regulations - or if t...
