Can't understand how they justify €200 a night, the worst sleep I've ever had. The noise between the rooms is so loud you can hear people's conversations word for word. The noise from street and the Trams is also absurdly loud as there is no AC and therefore you have to keep your window open. There is mould in the bathrooms, the stairs are unmanageable and I actually can not believe they are deemed safe. They cleaned the bathroom but not the room for the entirety of my stay.

The rooms are surprisingly nice. They have a big communication problem – they don't check their email or answer their phone. My flight was delayed so I did everything to let them know. Luckily I arrived right on time and the person at the desk said "next time you'll be sleeping on the streets." I laughed thinking it was a joke but she had cancelled my entire reservation... Yikes! It was my second stay at the hotel -- won't trust them again

People complaining about AC and the stairs didn't do their research about Amsterdam before visiting. Yes it sucks, bad. But it is what it is there. All the buildings along the canals are like that. I was even in a nightclub that had very dangerous stairs with drunk people everywhere. You will find some hotels with a lift and AC, but in most you will not. Many buildings are considered monuments and cannot be changed. I am giving them 3 stars due to cleanliness and black mold in the bathroom. Upon arriving I drank some water and the glass tasted like glass cleaner, which means they are not washing them their wiping them down with a dirty towel between guests. And lets be real, do we think they're hauling glasses down the stairs to go wash them? I stayed there because it was very close to a few of the places I was visiting, but will try another place if I ever make it back to amsterdam.

This hotel should be a last resort for anyone who books it. Don't book this hotel if you care about the little things that a larger hotel can provide. I arrived in AMS on an overnight flight in the morning. I got to the hotel after lunch and the staff made zero effort to accommodate an early check-in. I asked them when they can accommodate (in case room was still being cleaned etc...) and they simply said "come back at 3pm" Zero effort. I asked them traveler related questions about where to find a certain store in the area and again the staff made zero effort. Their response was "I wouldn't know"...seriously? don't you live here? The stairs are pretty much ladders. It's a hazard for older people and for people who cannot carry luggage that harrowing ladder. Rooms are small. Beds are not comfortable. The location is not close to the metro. The nearest tram still requires a bit of a walk. Their room numbering system is inconsistent. It can be confusing unless you ask the unhelpful staff. The room can get hot so you need window to be open but the street noise will keep you awake at night. If that doesn't keep you awake at night, the walls are thin that you can hear muffled conversations from the other rooms. The rate at which they charge is also unreasonable for the product they are providing.

This hotel is in a great location. Everything is within walking distance. The room was a good size compared to other rooms. I stayed in the room on the top floor with the private bath. Overall it was nice and I only have 2 complaints and one of them is out of their control. 1.) The stairs are really steep. If you have bad knees or any medical condition that limit mobility I would highly recommend you book somewhere else. Carrying luggage up the stairs was almost impossible. 2.) The bathroom needed attention. It smelled like mildew and the shower head was hanging by a thread. It also didn't have a shower curtain or door so my showers had to be quick to prevent water from flowing into the room.

The hotel location is perfect, staff are super friendly and welcoming. Only issue is the cleanliness of the rooms is not that great. Even after the cleaners come clean, the amount of dust, dirt and rubbish under the beds and shockingly even on the night stands next to the bed is scary. This can cause serious health issues as you are breathing all that while asleep. The stairs are another issue but that's something common in all Amsterdam as the buildings are old.

What a joke!!!! We prepaid because we aren’t picky travelers. At that time they had a 3.6 rating. We arrived and there was sewage backing up in our room. We waited six hours and no resolution. Had to walk down the road and book another hotel. THEY WOULD NOT REFUND US EVEN WHEN SEWAGE AND FECES WAS BACKED UP IN THE ROOM! DO NOT PREPAY !!!!! COSTED US AN EXTRA ALMOST $2,000!!!!!!

Tricky place to rate. What you're really paying for is the location, which is excellent. You can walk to anywhere in central Amsterdam from here, and there's a very close by tram stop and mainline train station. The service we got was good, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room, which was large with a great en-suite, had been recently renovated to a high standard. The drawback was that there was no Aircon in quite a stuffy room. But opening the window let in a lot of street noise - right by a main street, and there's a weed cafe and a nightclub next to the hotel. And the windows weren't double glazed anyway, so didn't block much noise. However, these can't really be considered acceptable complaints tbh - this building is literally hundreds of years old, and there will be limits on what renovations you could do. - the location means it's going to be noisy outside. It would be like complaining about noisy campsites at a music festival. The only suggestion I could make to management is that basic wall-mounted fans in the bedrooms would be a massive improvement. Otherwise I was perfectly happy with the hotel, and would consider staying here again, depending on the circumstances of my visit.

Honest reviews. The location is the only thing going for this hotel just outside the city centre, within close walking distance from the museums and transport links. The hotel it's self has a clean, moden looking resepion with hallway leading to room's upstairs and basement. The rooms are a different matter. cramped and unclean with the window being proped up with 4x2 timber if lucky or, in our case, a used weed brownie box from previous guests. Most rooms come with a thick layer of dust, mould in the bathroom, and stains on the furniture. The bedding and pillows poorly fit the bed, leading to a bad night's rest. Do not use the kettle in the room! We found dead and living flies in stagnant water. Bathrooms / showerroom are tiny with poor to no ventilation, leading to mould issues. The sink is too heavy for the shelf and has split it from the wight. Towels are old and treded, and there's no were to put them to dry out. The hotel staff, most are friendly and polite but don't expect them to go out the way to help. Our experience with this hotel. Upon arrival, we checked in at the desk and paid the city tax ( which is stranded for all hotels in Amsterdam ), we also had to pay a deposit €100 for the room. We headed to our room and found the room was so bad that they offered us a different room for no extra cost at first. The seconded room was better, but not by much with no other choice, we expected it. We found a spray bottle of cleaning fluid and cleaned the room ourselves, making it livable. On the last day, we handed in the room keys and were told that we needed to pay more city tax fees, which we had already paid in full at the start. We didn't pay it and still wait for the deposit back. Safe to say, it's probably best to avoid this hotel.

Rooms were pretty basic but that's what you pay for. Stairs are practically vertical so be aware of you have mobility issues. Location was good, near flower markets. On the first day there was luggage storage...on my last day I was point blank told no such thing existed?? Weird and inconvenient since I had to check out at 11am and my fight was at 7pm. Knocked off a star for that.

Pros: - Perfect Location. 30 min. or less walk to anything you need to get to. - Room looked very nice. - Bathroom looked very modern and nice. Cons: - This wasn't an issue for me (31y/o) or my wife (30y/o), but the staircase to the rooms is definitely something people need to be aware of. the elderly, people with mobility issues and anyone with big luggage will have a very difficult time making it up and down the very narrow, very steep, winding staircase. - The floor and small carpet in the room wasn't cleaned prior to our arrival. there was dust and dirt everywhere, especially under the bed (nobody had cleaned under there for a very long time, it scared me when I looked) - For the price, breakfast should be included, It is Not. - The Hotel markets itself as a hotel, but its really more of a nicer hostel with private rooms. - the front desk is not 24hrs, and does not even have the basics of a first aid kit. (my wife was run over by a bicycle and when I requested an ice pack they informed me they did not have an ice machine anywhere, nor an ice pack in the first aid kit). The woman at the front desk was very nice and did her best, but she was not provided with the basic tools that any other Hotel would have. - normally when you are at a Hotel when you want the towels changed you leave them on the floor and housekeeping removes them and replaces them with clean towels. well, here they do it a bit differently. they just take those towels on the floor and don't replace them with anything, so now me and my wife had to share 1 small towel for the 2 of us the next morning. (they fixed the situation immediately when I spoke to the front desk the next morning, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place) - also normally when housekeeping comes in to clean the room, they check to see if you have any toilet paper. we were almost out of the one roll that was provided and they didn't leave us another one when they cleaned the room. so, we ran out of toilet paper (also, this situation was fixed immediately when I alerted the front desk in the morning), however because we arrived home late at night and the front desk was closed we had to make do with makeshift toilet paper until the next morning. - we stayed 6 nights, not once were our bedsheets or pillow cases changed. they just put the comforter back on the bed, tuck it in and thats it. - They advertise bike rental services, but its really just a 5% coupon they give you to a rental place somewhere nearby. (we didn't look any further into it) -The pictures of the room are very deceiving. - right in the middle of the all shots of the room, they put a picture of the front desk with a kitchen area in it. We thought the rooms came with a kitchen area because of this sneaky marketing ploy. very deceiving marketing stunt.

They scamed us. moldy fridge. non-existent reception which closes at 5 p.m. cleaning not done. toilet room. bedroom in the basement. no wifi or networks in the basement in the bedroom. the walls are full of cobwebs and really hallowed. I have no responses to my emails and calls for complaints and reservations either.

This place is absouletly not as it seems in the pictures. There isn't even a reception, it is the smallest building ever and the staircases are so narrow that it feels like you're climbing a ladder. If you have to rush up or down it is basically impossible. Staff is really condescending and not helpful at all. Rooms have disgusting views and the vantilator in the bathroom makes so much noise even after you turn it off it keeps going. Would never ever recommend it.

Due to the covid situation my flight to Amsterdam was cancelled - I told it to the hotel in advance, so I could reschedule the dates or get a voucher - no reply at all...

we booked a room for 500€ that initially appeared to be quite beautiful. However, upon arrival, I discovered that it was actually a basement with two mattresses stitched together, and unfortunately, there were noticeable stains on the headboard that seemed to be bodily fluids. Feeling disappointed with the accommodations, I decided to leave on the first evening despite having booked the room for two nights. When I expressed my dissatisfaction to the lady at the reception, she responded by implying that I was being rude. Instead of addressing my concerns, she proceeded to insult me extensively. It appears that the Quentin Golden Bear Hotel prioritizes language over the essential task of properly cleaning the sperm stains in their basement, I'm sorry "hotel room" which is quite disappointing.

Decent, but it's really hard to climb up the steep winding stairs. You should know when someone says a place is 'cozy' these days on Airbnb.

Great location! Rooms are clean and light. Daria at reception was so helpful and all the staff were great.

Just offsetting some of the negative reviews I see from people that clearly don’t understand what a heritage building right in the heart of Amsterdam is This place is great! Very clean modern rooms in a lively part of the city - maybe rooms recently renovated and so the earlier reviews might have made more sense then Room stocked with everything you’ll need - yeah stairs a bit challenging and super quirky if unfamiliar with really old structures they don’t have permission to change. If you regularly need a lift/elevator then yeah unfortunately this probably isn’t your place

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Do not stay here! The photos the hotel provide is deceiving. I stayed in a single shared bathroom & it was like I was staying in a prison cell. The hotel does not provide aircon or a fan (it was BOILING HOT) & is situated next to a weed shop so you can imagine inhaling & smelling like weed the entire time you open your window for some 'fresh air' πŸ˜‚. I would not recommend this hotel to those who have issues with mobility. The stairs are so vertical that if you were to fall, you'd literally break your face. Pro about the hotel - it's situated right in the city.

😐 It is a large, somewhat impersonal, completely unshaded and extremely noisy campsite (we were in the tented section).Noisy because there is a large multi-lane bridge nearby, which is still very busy at night.
