This place has bed bugs. We stayed in the deluxe private room and when we got back late at night, we realised the bed and wall behind was swarming with bed bugs. Thankfully they gave us a full refund but we're still very annoyed at having to go to major effort to ensure we had no 'hitchhikers' coming back with us. Several reviews recently mention bed bugs so the place certainly knew they had a problem and still let us stay! So they are definitely not as caring as they say. Unfortunately we missed those reviews as we booked in advance. Avoid this place for your own peace of mind.

Dirty beds. Not at all what was advertised and when you write a review elsewhere they effectively call you stupid (polite or no it was thinly veiled and others who read it agree with me.) The quilt we not so affectionally named 'poop-quilt' was not the worst of it. I came away having been DEVOURED by what I thought were some kind of mutant mosquitos... wrong. Mosquitos don't bite in clusters of three, but I will tell you what does. BED BUGS. Be warned. Don't waste your money. Edit in response to hostel: We messaged you guys- through the booking app customer service portal, 2 days after, on the 26th with a full in-depth report plus screens describing our issues which is hardly 'LONG' after our stay,... the whole trying to apportion the blame on the customer thing is getting old, fast. And as far as not approaching a member of staff in-person, we can't all be the kind of person who has both the confidence and the energy to go into situations that could cause distress for either party involved. And I won't apologise for that. Terrible hostel, terrible on-line customer service.

A garage with old , probably used furniture from the street, the room was dirty with even chewing gums attached on the floor, uncomfortable beds, staff friendly only for the first five minutes after check in they barely or rarely say hi or consider you at all a part from shouting to you the rules, sometime cold at night, reading comments don't really get what is cozy here and why staff is nice, they have a separate kitchen for themselves where they make their own coffee but nothing for guest, i would stay again if not more than 15 euros per night.Overrated

    - Dorm was in the basement, very low ceiling with exposed pipes that were noisy when toilets/showers were used - No sockets or tables by the beds - Only way to plug things in was using an extension lead in the middle of the dorm floor - Employee came into the room at about 10:30 in the morning, very loudly asking questions to one guest about their laundry whilst others were sleeping - Lots of flies in the kitchen due to left out food beyond expiration - Kitchen was badly lit, could barely see what was going on due to motion censor lights constantly turning off - Beds were really comfy but pillows were very lumpy - The window opened right out into the canal with no safeguard to prevent falling - They’ve tried to spin this cheaply converted warehouse into a cute hipster rustic “we’re all in this together” familial vibe but one night here reveals the truth quite easily

Staff member seemed inconvenienced by our arrival when we got there- and even more annoyed when we realised towers were not included and needed to rent some for 3 euro- this was pointless because the Sewerage was leaking- smelly water through the whole bathroom- no way to use a toilet without walking through a puddle of smelly water- forget about showering.. share rooms are ok but very minimal- no lamp or ledge like I have had in other rooms- but a nice morning light and view of the canal through the morning. the one light in the room is poorly designed and shines sideways directly onto my top bunk- which was just the cherry on top I think for me- stayed one night- checking out If you want a nice lounge space this is all this place has so offer.

Very friendly stuff and a great coffee. The nbedwas comfortable and had a view at the canal.it was only girls room with 7 beds. There were some free cosmetic articles. Like a bunch of nail polish colors. After the long city walk I really appreciated the sleep. What I didn't like was the cleanliness. The view in the bathroom in the morning was very unpleasant!

Most beautiful hostel in the Amsterdam!! Really had a great experience. Rooms are really big compared to other hostels. All the staff are helpful. Location is too good. Pretty close to the central. Great view from the rooms. They have a kitchen and you can cook your meal too. Best hostel in Amsterdam. Highly recommend. Special thanks to the staff for my experience here.

You can tell a lot of time and attention has been put into this place. The atmosphere is similar to south east asian hostels, it’s friendly, it’s communal, it’s honest. All the staff were nice and friendly as well.

A very special place to stay at when visiting Amsterdam, we loved it. The common areas are so cozy that you end up sitting there even as an introvert. :D

Such a beautiful place to stay, really enjoyed myself and can't wait to visit again. I would definitely recommend this hostel. It had a very chill atmosphere in the communal areas, very friendly/helpful staff and the self catering kitchen area was very clean and ideal for a relaxing cup of tea or a drink in the evenings. The room we got was very tidy, warm and could not be faulted, bathroom facilities were great also. The location of the hostel was perfect for us also, 2 stops on a tram or 10 minute walk from central station. We will definitely be staying here for our next visit.

If I could give more stars I absolutely would! ❤️ Such a phenomenal hostel! The best I have been in since I started my travels two months ago! You arrive and get a free drink from the bar (hot or a beer from the tap). Everything is so clean and spotless! The bathrooms are well set up! The beds are super comfy! There is also an entire area where you can cook and there is so much space, nothing feels squashed 😍! Honestly wish I could stay longer because it’s so relaxing staying here! Also the common area is so big, everyone can work quite comfortably! Honestly worth the money 💃🏼

The place seems nice, it is in a great location, the service is friendly, the kitchen is available, it is possible to rent a bike as well as leave your luggage after checking out. However, this place has two major disadvantages: cleanliness in the rooms and bedbugs. Women's hair in the bathroom, dust in the room. There is also the dirt under the wooden platform on which the mattress is placed: hair, dust, some t-shirt, a coin - items that fell into the gaps and stayed there forever. And unfortunately, at night I was bitten by bedbugs. I read the opinions of this place here and on booking and many people have already paid attention to bedbugs and cleanliness, and those opinions didn't change anything.

Liked: - Friendly staff, the setting of the hostel is pretty, close to the center of Amsterdam. We booked the Love Shack Cabin and the Friend's Twin Cabin. - It was what was expected for a hostel. It had a kitchen and cozy common spaces which were fun to hang out in! - Rooms were clean, Comfy beds, you get towels & a bathrobe, but there're no windows. - Check out at 11am, there are lockers to rent for 1 euro/h. - Before check-in lockers are free. Disliked: - The hostel could have been slightly cleaner (Kitchen & Toilets) - The showers were a disappointment of this hostel. You cannot adjust the temperature, nor much space to put your stuff. - I think there should be some rules regarding respect for others (no access to the kitchen after 11pm, or no Movies after midnight). The room (Love Shak) is right beside the cinema area. The Friend's Twin right beside the reception Desk. You can hear everything!

The rooms are super clean and beds are secure with bedbug covers. The common toilets & bathrooms are plenty with warm water so there's no waiting . The dorms rooms we took faced an Amsterdam canal straight outside the window and it was beautiful.

Very dirty floors. One shower shared by more than 4 room with 8 people in each room! I just left after one hour from checking in. Very disappointing

I absolutely wouldn’t recommend this hostel. Not very clean place and stuff not helpful. Don’t believe in the other good star reviews here, those were mostly written by local guides. I hope you can find a better hostel in Amsterdam.

Such a great hostel honestly. Comfy beds, super nice vibe, great location. Other than that the showers could really use a complete renovation, this place is pretty much perfect and I will definitely come again.

Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable of the area. I felt very comfortable there. Slept in the 7 bed girls only room. Each girl I met was really sweet 😊 The place was super cute too! The location was the best as well. You can literally walk anywhere! I would definitely stay there again.

They wonder what happened. Terrible customer service during a pandemic. Completely unreasonable. “We are here for you” is an outright lie. I should have listened to my Dutch friends when they said to stay anywhere else. I couldn’t pay them enough to even stay here. They’d rather take your money than ensure you actually have a great stay.

This hotel is not serious. One day before arrival we have been relocated to another hostel because they just overbooked the rooms and had to send people away. We booked the rooms 2 months in advance and we got the notice 1 day before arriving in Amsterdam! The other hostel was further away from the centre and the rooms were much more cheaper than the ones in Ecomama. Upon request of getting refunded the difference for the room, they denied. This is not a way to treat customers. I hope this won’t happen to any other customer. ——— Thanks for the reply - my friend did the booking so that’s why you don’t see me listed in your system. We filed a complaint through another platform but unfortunately the amount difference was denied by you. We tried calling you upon the day of arrival but your service hotline was unavailable in the evening.

Such a great place. I wasn't initially too happy with the dorm situation, but for the younger ones out there (!) It's perfect. The staff are super helpful, friendly and I honestly cannot fault it! Bedroom number 1 is the best in my view! Enjoy your stay and I will be back one day thanks

Such amazing pods to stay in!! My best friend booked this as a surprise for my birthday and wow did she pull it out of the bag! Check in is a little later than places I've stayed in in the past so check out Amsterdam for a few hours if your flight lands early then get yourself comfortable in this beautiful venue

Bed bugs, avoid at all costs! Complained and the managers response was ... "these things happen when you travel, you are just allergic to the bites" Terrible, 0* if I could

My partner and I were inter-railing as part of our Honeymoon and Amsterdam was our first stop on our trip. Ecomama was the perfect starting point. Great location, friendly staff and the rooms and comunal spaces were excellent. Highly recommend!

Lovely different hotel/hostel with a nice coffee in the interior. We slept in a shipping container right in the entrance hall. It may be noisy for others but us it didn't disturb, really helpful open-minded staff who are always open for a nice chat 😀 brakefast was good to fill our stomach and to be able to cycle around this beautiful city. Really good located

great hostel! good location, canal views in dorm room, generally very clean, nice communal area, friendly staff, and comfy beds. I had a great stay. The only thing that could be improved was that the bathroom shower/sink drains were always clogged.

Visited this place during 5pm-5am lockdown. Spent most of the time here still felt good. Nice place to take a break. The hostel has amazing charming spots. You can eat outside or cook your own food or find free food in the fridge. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Its very hard to get a booking here so make sure you book in advance.

Amazing stay at Ecomama, everything is so nice : the place looks beautiful, the area is nice and super handy (15 min walk to the station or the city center, close to a big tramway station), the staff is lovely and very professional. Everything is made for you to have a wonderful stay and I couldn't find a more cheaper hostel for such service! I'll definitely book again when visiting Amsterdam

Very reasonable price, extremely friendly and helpful staff no question too silly and happy to help with things like printing boarding passes etc. Kindly called me immediately after leaving to remind me about some items I’d left in the room before I flew

Ecomama is a beautiful hostel, the staff is very friendly and welcoming, they are always trying their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Te shared kitchen is extremely helpful if you are eating on a budget or want to cook your own stuff (Really nice if you need a quick breakfast or have Food restrictions). The chillout area is very cozy and like an extension of your bedroom. The location is near a supermarket and a tramstation, so you can get easily to your desired destination. Furthermore there is a fleamarket and a variety of vintage stores nearby, where you can shop. I am looking forward to my next stay at Ecomama hostel which hopefully will be soon!

The Hostel overall had a very nice optic. It has a comfortable vibe in the common area. The kitchen is the biggest and best equipped I’ve seen in a hostel so far. The only downside is how noisy the beds are. They are full metal and are very loud on every movement which makes sleeping in a bigger dorm difficult from time to time.
