I recently visited Surya, an Indian restaurant on Ceintuurbaan Amsterdam. Offering a blend of Indian and Nepalese cuisine in an elegant yet cozy atmosphere, Surya impressed me with its delightful dishes. We started with the flavorful Momo Surya, followed by the Lamb Biryani and Butter Chicken Curry, each dish was well seasoned and expertly prepared. The accompanying Basmati Rice and Cheese Naan complemented the curry perfectly. I paired my meal with a refreshing Mango Lassi. Surya provides a diverse menu with numerous vegetarian options and an extensive cocktail selection. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Go here if you are not hungry. Great food but disappointing service. Waited for approx 1 hr 15 mins for food to arrive, on a Tuesday evening. Ordered main courses only and the small papadams with sauce that were brought to our table first were not enough to quench hunger during the long waiting time. At the end also waited 20 mins to get the bill (with the restaurant half empty by this time). Not going here anytime soon. A pity because the food is very good but we didn’t feel valued as customers.

Loved it! The food was fantastic. The chicken dumplings were very delicious, I would definitely order them again. The Dal Tarka was flavourful and perfect with the naan bread. They also had many nice desert options. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be coming back!

While we couldn’t taste a lot on the menu, whatever we tried was really good. The cauliflower wings were very well prepared and the Surya Momo just felt the right thing on the table. Kudos to the staff for the amazing service!

As a Brit visiting I was craving Indian food and found the highest quality, best atmosphere and friendliest staff in Suriya. The optimised service made our night with friends. Definitely will visit again when we come back

Might be the best Indian place I've dined at in Amsterdam so far! The staff were very welcoming and lovely, the food was high quality and genuine, and the service was good and food came at a decent speed. Their house wine is fairly decent too!

Very few Indian restaurants serve authentic Indian food and Surya is one one them…the dishes were tasty close to indian home cooking without being super spicy or having a overdoes of sweetness and being heavy . After dinner we all felt nice not heavy … we ordered veg food Bhindi ,Chana masala ,dal Tarka ,Tandoori veg and veg Biryani all of this was delicious I highly recommend My only suggestion is to make the portion slightly bigger :-)

We came here after Google recommended the restaurant to me. There food is simply wow. I had Saag Paneer (which is their name for Palak Paneer) and the taste was sumptuous. The quantity is sufficient as well, even though at first it looked a bit less. The place is a bit pricey though.

The staff is kind and the cocktails are tasty. However, the food was not that tasty, the portions are very small, especially considering the prices, and they charged us for water while we asked for water from the tab (which should be free in the Netherlands). Overall, I would not recommend it.

The lady who served was rude, didn't understand our requirement when we said extra garlic in Dal Tadka. Instead she brought Dal Tadka full of Chilli spice, so spicy that we couldn't even eat. She then later started lecturing us not to order spice IF we ever come back (which she meant we should never return). She never allowed Ashima (who initially took our order) to speak and asked her to leave, clearly indicating she's open to an argument which is not appreciated by us, and contrary to the service and hotel industry. Who so ever is responding from Surya is misguided. We never showed, intended or attacked any staff of yours. The lady kept on creating a scene when i was walking to the restroom yelling that i don't attack the staff. That was a bit ridiculous of her to do that, since we had immense respect to Ashima who was actually serving us the food. Forget misbehaving, we never raised out voice while speaking to Ashima, please speak to her to get the ttruth out.

Greetings from USA. we Visited Surya Amsterdam on a Tuesday evening & were just amazed by all means. I had promised the guy would surely write an review for him & the girl at the bar, couldn't resist too write this review. The guy who took our Order & served us food was fantastic.... Their service personals Charmex (girl at the bar) & Alixks service personal were just fantastic....( hope took their name correctly) they are excellent.....Food was mouth watering...with beautiful interior....

Don't eat here. The food didn't taste good. The Yeti's food is spaghetti and some tomato sauce. If it wasn't for the chicken, I would have thought it was an Italian dish. The butter chicken and chicken Tikka masala we're bad. They charge €3 just for a bottle of water - which doesn't even fill up 4 glasses of water. I wish I had known they charge for water. The appetizers showed up promptly. The rest of the food was over 1 hour late.

Honestly I can’t figure out the high review rating here. We ended up tossing 80% of our order. Samosas- hard and stale Lamb Rogan- almost vinegary and a half portion Vege korma- halfway OK at best, overly creamy, one dimensional flavor. Something I’d expect from a buffet maybe, not a high end place. Chicken Biryani- this was decent, we finished this dish Paneer saag- bland After some Tummy issues and €100, we would not order again.

Amazing authentic Indian food topped with a lovely atmosphere. What else do you want. Friendly staff? Yes, the staff was brilliant too. We loved it and will definitely visit again when in town.... Their butter chicken is amazing.

We went there last night with 5 people for a little company dinner, and we were not disappointed! We had a lovely time with good food and great service! Our servers were really nice (and patient!) and they're really what made our night as nice as it was. However, if we were to give one piece of feedback, we found the portions to be a bit on the smaller side. We say this because we loved the food. We also feel that had we not ordered a lot of starters, we would not neccesarily have been full by the end. Of course, we still had a lovely time and will be back!

Very Bad Service; Arrogant, rude and illegal. In the Netherlands it is illegal to refuse to serve tap water in a restaurant, nevertheless there are some restaurants that do refuse to serve tap water and try to make you order and pay for bottled water. Surya is one of them. We (2 pax) asked the waiter to forward our complain about it to the owner. We came early so there was only one other table of 2 and while we ordered beers (that's why we wanted also water) and food 5 more tables became occupied. We told the waiter that we need to go within one hour (we had movie tickets). 25 minutes later all other 5 tables were eating and we were still waiting for our food. When we asked the waiter what's going on, he blamed the kitchen and said that the food will be served in 2-3 minutes. 10 minutes later we asked to pay for the beer and we left.

When you are in Amsterdam and would like a delicious Indian dinner!! Do visit surya, the service the food both are great! You can really dine here! I had a channa chaat for my starter and my main course was chicken tikka tandoori, it came out sizzeling and the chicken was so tender and tasty! As dessert I had Mango lassi, so creamy and sweet!

I DO NOT recommend this restaurant to ANYONE. Today we were celebrating my pregnancy, so i ordered at Surya Amsterdam for a take away, as we always had a good experience there. I ordered three vegetarian dishes: veg butter chicken, veg chicken korma and mutter paneer. When we arrived home and tried out the dishes we were totally shocked! The chicken korma contained a lot of salt, the mutter paneer and the veg butter chicken had no good taste at all. This was very dissapointing as we were loyal customers and go for longer then 8 years to this restaurant. We immediately called the restaurant and discussed this matter. The lady was so rude and was defending the food, also said that she did not believe that the food was not alright and did not care about the customer at all! She just shouted that we must return the food to get our refund. After arriving to the restaurant, the lady was giving dirty/angry looks and just grabbed the bag and walked away. She then pushed the money into my hand and did not say anything at all! She was expecting us to leave right away. I asked her why she had been so rude, she did not want to respond and kept interrupting me and didn't want to listen. She also didn't care that we were loyal customers for so long and just said that she is busy and ignored me and just walked away. This is really shocking and ruined my whole celebration! We will never going to this restaurant again as the Lady was misbehaving towards us and being extremely rude. You should never treat your customer like that! I ordered the vegetable korma and it was so bad I didn’t even finish my first bite. It was *extremely* sweet and lacked any other flavor. The naan was good, but without anything to eat it with, the entire meal was a waste. Maybe they just don’t do vegetarian food well. I’m really disappointed.

Despite telling them no red chilly powder in chicken biryani because of stomach issue their biryani was full of spice and Garam masala infact that was the only thing one could taste in the dish. Visiting Amsterdam and came in our first night for drinks and a lite dinner. So wonderful we came back on our final night. The Spinach Dumplings were delicious. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful, helpful. She is a ray of sunshine and gave us other recommendations for our day out and about! If I could - Alessia (sp?) would get higher than 5/5!

Me and my wife are already dining here for more than 6 years now. Such a great restaurant. The service is very friendly and fast, and the food is just delicious. The butter chicken is a must if you are going to eat there.

Unbelievable Experience, we visited there on a 12th Nov Sunday evening and it was packed.....the beautiful girl and the food serving guy were amazing, we could notice they were doing their best......a special shout out to their service team, specially the guy serving us food and the girl who took our order.....

Couple of days ago we were passing by & got into this Indian Restaurant Surya Amsterdam, it seems they have more Restaurants at other locations, upon arrival we were been warmly greeted by a Gentleman & without Reservation he offered us the Table of our choice, which usally does not happen at many Restaurants in Amsterdam 😃.... We had the best meal of the evening, Service was par at their excellence, within minutes the drinks were on our table, (we usually dont get served so quick in the bars within Amsterdam) ausum food & to the man for cooking butter chicken with his own hands from the bottom your heart my Girl Friend loved it...kisses......😘

The ambience is nice and the service is excellent with friendly staff, but we weren't impressed with the taste of the food or the prices of the dishes. It left us feeling that we didn't get good value for what we paid. It seems as though there's a premium placed just for being on Ceintuurbaan, without the quality to go with it.
