The Tolhuistuin is a versatile cultural and event center. It is just a few steps from the pier of the ferry Amsterdam Centraal. The program includes music, theater, discussions and much more. I'm being seated in the Café Restaurant of the Tolhuistuin this early evening by the fast and very professional service. One is seated at tables of varying sizes in a large pavilion. The menu has no main courses, guests can instead choose their meal from smaller cold and hot dishes (priced between €8 and €15). The idea is to share the meal with your companions. I choose Hummusboard ("with Tasty Tom tomatoes, chili, green bell pepper, radish and corn, served with flatbread" and Peking duck ("with hoisin, "pepperdjam" and a sesame cracker". The quality is excellent. From the restaurant you can go straight to the evening program of the Tolhuistuin. We came here for a small live music event, a 12 - piece string/percussion/vocal ensemble. The setting was marvelous! It was a smaller room on an upper floor with great lighting, view, acoustics, ambience. There was a bar in the corridor with decent prices and quick service. The two downsides were 1) only two toilets nearby and 2) by the second hour we could hear the beats coming from the larger concert hall next to the room we were in. If you go for classical music, hope it wraps up before the headliners start rocking the building. Otherwise it was an overall lovely experience! Oh and the restaurant/bar on the upper floor was huge, great for groups. Excellent access to Amsterdam Centraal via access free 5-minute ferry.

Gluten free options win me over every time! Plus Vegan, Vegetarian & meat/fish...something for everyone. The food was great apart from the gluten free duck which was really nasty...wobbly fat ...yuk! Great service though & although it was a stormy November evening I imagine the views in the summer are great.

An ideal spot for enjoying a beer and appreciating the sunset over Amsterdam's beautiful canals. An excellent concert venue provides the perfect incentive for taking a ferry to this centrally located spot just minutes away from the Damplein.

Huge place next to the ferry. The view is very nice and probably in the summer it's a great spot to relax. The menu has lots of local touches which is nice. Fluffy chocolate sprinkles with peanut butter is classic!

Went to the restaurant for dinner. Terrace is spacious and lovely. Very nice creative selection of sharing dishes and desserts; we really enjoyed everything that we ordered. Friendly and efficient service. Will definitely return!

Unfortunately nothing available for kids up to 5 years, staff was not able to accommodate or provide any suggestion to make sure the kids could eat something. We asked for grilled bread with cheese or something similar to help, but was denied. I would not recommend to come with little kids here.

Restaurant: The food was good, but not really my kind of taste. Good glutenfree options! Service was nice and good atmosphere.

Pretty good fusion food. The Indonesian mackerel is one of a kind. It’s very close to a hostel so very convenient. Would visit again.

A fantastically cosy big room with nice atmosphere with candles and lovely bar! The food is super delicious and original!!! An extensive menu with lots of options both vegan and non vegan of food sharing.

We visited on a Saturday night with 4 people. The location is great, the interior gives off strong '70s vibes with wooden panels and a raised dining platform. The atmosphere was slightly chaotic and it was a bit difficult to hear each other talk. It was also not clear who was supposed to be waiting our table, which made it quite difficult to order extra courses or drinks. The concept of shared dining with smaller portion is nice, but unfortunately the food itself was quite disappointing. The vietnamese style rice paper roll was poorly wrapped and the pairing sauce quite bland. The nachos were not corn nachos, rather some tasteless deepfried dough that tasted suspiciously similar to the pizza fritta one and the guacamole did not taste homemade. The toasted brioche bread tasted a bit stale and the paté was slothered in an extremely sweet sauce that was supposed to be made with Mme Jeannette peppers, but tasted rather like the sweet chili sauce of the AH. The puttanesca sauce on the pizza fritta was pairing very poorly with the taleggio cheese. The vegetarian sliders were ok for a school cantine, but not something I would expect to eat at a restaurant. I would not recommend it for the food, but for a drink and a borrel it may be quite a nice spot, especially in the summer.

Loved this place found it by chance Saturday 9/ 9/23. We didn't have a reservation but were offered a table within 10minutes. We had to vacate it after 2 hours as it was reserved but that was plenty of time to enjoy a lovely meal. Especially enjoyed the unusual sharing dessert of Tiny Garden. Excellent service.

Amazing everything. Love the food, the small dishes to share are great. They look perfect and are very tasty. Friendly staff and love the atmosphere. Bit of a festival vibe outside which is also cute. My one complaint would be that there's no chance of a table without a reservation, but its popularity is hardly the restaurant's 'fault'.

Nice restaurant in Amsterdam-Noord, with a nice view to the Ij. The menu is small but the food was good and the service was also good.

We were there at a night were vegan and vegetarian food only to be served, staff stated that they donno if the food is enough for everyone in the restaurant (as if this is the costumer responsibility), food was everything but healthy, deep fried, mini portions, so everyone was recommended to order 2 dishes, very expensive in comparison to what was delivered, we waited an hour for our check… all in all bad experience… the only recommendation is STAY AWAY!

Passed out during a concert, security and staff was there immediately to ACTUALLY help and bring some snacks and drinks. Great staff makes for a great venue, many other places wouldn't have cared as much

We visited on a Thursday evening after having drinks below. It was fully booked on the outside deck, so we sat inside. But the table we got was right next to the large window, so it was like we were sitting outside! The teriyaki salmon was amazing, we ended up getting two plates! We also got two plates of the ceviche as it was really good as well. We also ordered the eggplant and potato curry with jasmine rice. Everything was excellent!

Atmosphere is definitely unique : spacious restaurant area in intimate lighting, plants wall ; outdoor seating relax and more of a sunny sunday feeling ; bar is cosy and classy, with area for live music. There is an elevator to access the restaurant (otherwise main door is reachable by outside stairs)

Amazing terrace, spacious place. The food is good but small portions. Was very busy when I went resulting in a slow service. Wonderful views on the IJ.

A nice spot outside just across the ij at station. In summertime they usually have music afternoons on Sunday. Enjoy the city without all the craziness

Very cozy.. esp during summer. If you by chance taking a stroll around A’dam centraal station. Try hop on the ferry to north. Once you stepped out of the bar, it’s only a few steps away. The food is okay nothing special

We wanted to eat in the Tolhuistuin restaurant, but there were no free table when we got there so we were seated in the 'bar' area for about two hours. We wanted to order tapas, but we were not allowed to do so in that area of the restaurant. Only one person of our group was dutch, he convinced the waitress to get served at the bar but when we asked her if the others of the group (non-dutch) could also do that, she refused. After some time we asked the waitress to be seated in the 'restaurant' where few tables were free, she told us to ask the receptionist for a table. As if it was the client's job to do that. We went over to the receptionist who then said he would find us a table right away, thirty minutes later he still didn't find us one. Overall a very disappointing experience, we were asked to wait patiently for two hours and a half at the bar ordering drinks while waiting to be seated and never got a table - so we left and directly got a table in a crowded chinese restaurant.

👍👍 The perfect place to enjoy high-quality seafood at a reasonable price. Was surprised to see this large restaurant buzzing at 5pm (both inside and outside!) but after seeing the fresh fish on display and trying the sashimi which just melts in the mouth I understood why. The staff were also very well-...
