Saturday night I was abused by the security. I was standing at the entrance talking on my phone and two members of the security asked me to stand somewhere else (which I immediately did), and after 5 minutes a different member of security came along she screamed at me grabbed me by my arm and pushed me out. Very long queue outside (approx 1hr at 1am) even for ticket holders (people without tickets were getting in faster, ugh), crowd isn’t the best (tons of people here more to pose than to dance), water is super expensive, the staff isn’t welcoming. This club was a blast! I was looking for a club that is more relaxed than others in Amsterdam that plays good house/techno and the DJ did just that. I went by myself as I’m here with family who aren’t clubbers and had no issue meeting people to hang out with for the night. Drinks are reasonably priced, the staff were all friendly, bathrooms were clean and free, the crowd was diverse and free, and the sound was excellent. If you love house music I highly recommend Shelter!

The sound system is the only good thing about this place. Not enough toilets, always full, smoking area is way too small and you’re not able to breathe there. The lights on the dance floor are too bright and it’s way too hot to dance. Club is full of drunk tourists and guys that come there just to hit up on girls. They arrange parties and events every week and you can buy tickets online by downloading an app called RA Guide to skip the queues and maybe get a discount on some events if you book early. I was in there once and was positively surprised by the experience. I really liked the music, which honestly was also a key factor for me to go there, but that might be different for other DJs and depends on taste. The loudspeakers there are amazing and I liked the bass trembling on my clothes. The ambience was also nice and fit the music, although it's too unfinished for my taste. The beers were definetly affordable, don't know about the other drinks though, and it was a shame that earplugs cost 4€. Shelter is a good club and it shares quite much the same vibe as any modern European quality club for electronic music. I made it to the Palet Blue theme night that was suggested by RA and had seen some of it's artist earlier around Europe. Organisers really made the club that day and couldn't had asked more music wise. Dance floor in equipped with 4 point Funktion One Res system, stacked with some delays in the sides. It sounds good, but doesn't keep up completely with higher end D&B or L'acoustic systems in terms of bass and other frequency range definitions. But for being F1, it's well calibrated system and has hefty headroom for high SPL. Lighting is quite nice but nothing super special like Blitz in Munich has for example. I had no problems with security. Drinks were ok, but getting water from the toilet area is a Berlin thing that doesn't quite fit modern standards anymore. You can buy a bottle of course. I didn't see harassment or any other problems that day, people were mostly locals which I see a big plus. I got the space to dance and people were mostly polite. We went here on a night out. The vibe was good and we had a good time but the straight male energy was too intense for our taste.

Quite an atypical nightclub, the lockers, the toilets and the room have a soul for sure. But in terms of mixing, it's very monotonous, honestly it pissed me off. The sounds were extremely similar.
