Not gonna lie: wasn't expecting much. But man was I wrong. The upstairs is a wonderful cheese shop with loads of samples and an excellent selection. The downstairs is an interesting display with a fun photo booth that costs like 4 euro. We actually had a great time! I'd recommend it if you like cheese. You'll end up buying something for sure.

This place is really a cheese shop on the floor level with a really small museum in the basement. There’s no cost of entry so if you’re in the area with a few minutes to kill you should swing by. The museum itself shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes even if you decide to read everything and watch the videos. The coolest thing about this place is actually the cheese shop. There are numerous samples to try, some that are a little gimmicky, but still fun to sample. We spend just as much time sampling the cheese. The cheese is ready to fly so be sure to buy a gift or two for your loved ones!

The title “cheese museum” conjures up imagery of exhibitions of Dutch cheese, its lineage, traditional cheese making process and varietals all presented at a scale which will be rapidly rattled when coming here. That said, you are likely here in the hope of snuffling a generous amount of cheese samples. This will easily be satiated. Truth be told, this is a cheese shop under the banner of a museum. There is a small exhibit underneath the shop which briefly addresses the making of Dutch cheese. You can also wear a few items and take photos (all good fun). However the broad variety of cheese upstairs is the real star of the show with an impressive selection of Gouda and other options both for sample and for sale. The staff are helpful and patient to explain and help you with purchases. There are signs next to each cheese explaining what it is and its ingredients. Would I come back? Absolutely. If you are passing by the area, it’s well worth stopping in. It’s free!

It’s a free museum and a very small one. The ground floor is the shop of various cheeses. The basement is a small museum where they explain the cheese making process via video and they also have some exhibits. It will take around 10-15 in total overall. An okay to good experience

the museum is free, so I guess you can just pop in if you want to and learn about cheese making, it's pretty small in the cheese museum there are a lot of things just thrown around, there were multiple wigs on the side of it which was kinda weird they seem to be intent on making there money from tourists, you can get a photo taken and a coin pressed and buy a bunch of small souvenirs also there was a weird line in the museum that was like "most cheese sellers were women. cheese does not take any strength to cut." what? anyway the cheese samples were tasty 👍 cheese museum

We bought 3 cheeses in this shopping in July but when we would like to eat them we discovered the sell-by date was exceeded by 6 months. So we tested the cheese but it was very bad taste. We are disappointed.

The Cheese Museum is so fantastic! You can sample all the cheese and the staff is super helpful!! We didn’t even make it downstairs to the free museum. We bought 6 blocks to bring home! Canadians - you can bring 20kg of cheese per person home!!!!

Cute little stop to check out if you have time! This is a little cheese store with free samples in the top and then a tiny museum in the basement.

The cheese here is fantastic. You can sample literally every type of cheese that they sell. Staff is friendly. The museum part in the basement is cool but, let's be honest, the store is where the real action is. The wife and I spent 40 minutes here, but could have spent longer. We still have cheese from this trip 3 months later.

More of a cheese shop than a museum. The museum does not show how the cheese is made, but rather showcases some basic facts about cheese making and the history of cheese. Cheeses tasted great though, so we still enjoyed our trip here! Staff were very friendly too.

Cute little cheese museum. Entrance is for free. Also nice is the tasting shop. Inside you can taste lots of cheese everywhere on the first floor. There is also a shop to buy souvenirs or cheese. At the basement is the museum it self. Very interesting to see. I guess the duration to stay there is about 30 minutes in total. Quite short but interesting at all :)

There's a cool little display downstairs talking about general cheese making, I was looking forward to a full-on museum and was slightly disappointed once I got there. The cheese shop upstairs is small but excellent with the ability to do free samples to figure out which one to bring home.

Super nice staff. Very helpful in a store full of different cheeses. You can try all the cheese you want and decide which one you like and maybe want to buy. The small museum in the basement is for free and very cute and interesting.

it's a classic example of a successful cheese shop. ..you can enjoy not just the great variety of cheese, but the excellent costumer service; very nice personal, they offer unlimited samples along with great very tasty sauces; clean and odorous bathrooms; place very well organized; they offer advice about pastas, wines and of course cheese, although prices are high, the experience worth it...so HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The museum is self guided and incredibly tiny. Upstairs, there are cheese samples, but while we were there people were sticking their hands in the containers to scoop out cheese. There were provided toothpicks but the shopkeepers (who all clustered in the back) didn't seem to be monitoring, talking to anyone in the store or refilling any (finger touched) cheese. It was a real turn off and literally all of the cheeses could be found at any of the other cheese shops along the road. I wouldn't recommend.

Very good museum. Nice cheese. The Amsterdam Cheese Museum is a charming and interactive establishment located in the heart of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It offers visitors a delightful journey into the world of Dutch cheese. The museum is designed to provide an immersive experience that showcases the rich history, traditional methods, and cultural significance of cheese in the region. Upon entering the museum, you'll likely be greeted by a fascinating array of cheese-related exhibits. These exhibits often include informative panels, visual displays, and even hands-on activities that highlight the entire cheese-making process. From the initial stages of milk collection to the aging and packaging of various cheese varieties, the museum offers a comprehensive exploration of the art and science behind cheese production. One of the highlights of the Amsterdam Cheese Museum is the opportunity to sample a wide variety of Dutch cheeses. Many visitors enjoy tasting sessions where they can savor the distinct flavors, textures, and aromas of different types of cheeses, ranging from the world-renowned Gouda and Edam to lesser-known regional specialties. The knowledgeable staff is often on hand to guide you through these tastings, providing insights into the nuances of each cheese and offering suggestions for pairings. The museum also typically features a shop where you can purchase a diverse selection of Dutch cheeses to take home, along with other cheese-related products like cheese knives, boards, and accessories. It's a perfect place to find unique souvenirs or gifts for cheese enthusiasts. Overall, the Amsterdam Cheese Museum offers a delightful and educational experience for cheese lovers and curious travelers alike, allowing you to delve into the history and culture of Dutch cheese in a fun and engaging way.

Great variety of gouda cheese with interesting flavours, a shoet history of cheese and free samples (of course the cheese is pretty expensive and one could see that the samples add in to the price) No corona concept or desinfection though.

Such an unexpected delight - one of my favourite stops in Amsterdam! The staff were lovely and knowledgeable, the downstairs museum was a delight, and you could try EVERY SINGLE CHEESE. I was in cheesey heaven.

awesome place to have a look at. The cheese are amazing! and so are the people there. They are helpful with choosing the right one for you and there's literally hundreds of samples to try out. Down stairs is even more interesting. Worth checking out and highly recommended!

Highly recommend!😍🧀Small space, but a lot of cheese! A large number of cheese tastings, helpful and kind staff who can help with everything. The museum is in the basement, tiny but nice. You don't have to pay for the enter.

We got to try many many different types of cheeses here. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially when there are so many options for you to choose from. We bought the special one cheese and the prices are slightly expensive since the place is right in the middle of city. There is a tiny museum in the cellar which is touristy. Don’t forget to click pictures with props.

Big range of gouda with lots of samples. The downstairs museum is small but provides a good overview of how they make cheese with some classic equipment. It's free and worth a visit for anyone who loves cheese.

What a nice guy! Helped us with vacuum sealing cheese from another store that did not make it travel ready! ( old Amsterdam cheese on Damrack!) Don't go there come to the cheese museum!!!

  • 3/5 Aaron 1 year ago on Google
Not really worth the visit unless you want to get cheese. The museum isn’t really a museum considering the scale of the establishment. You can buy and sample cheese at Level 1. One of their best sellers is the truffle cheese (black in colour). I love that they vacuum wrap it for you to bring it on the airplane. So thoughtful. The basement houses a mini exhibition detailing the history of cheese, how cheese is made and other fun facts.

A great place to know various kind of cheese and how they are made, scaled and served. It's good for a shop to share these so much knowledge to visitors.

You can taste a variety of cheeses and buy loads of different flavours. Interesting museum below the shop.

  • 5/5 Anand E. 1 year ago on Google
The staff at this shop and museum are really friendly. You can try the different cheeses as they have bowls to sample and the cheese is vacuum sealed so you can take it back on the plane even if you don’t check in any luggage.

A touristy but fun place along Prinsengracht across from the Anne Frank House is the Amsterdam Cheese Museum which is open daily from 9am to 7pm daily. Technically this is called a museum and there does exist as a single room exhibition gallery in the basement. However, what you mostly find here is a tourist friendly cheese shop with loads of Gouda and other similar Dutch cheese varieties. The good part - you are free try as many as you like and there are quite a few available. Staff are friendly and not pushy at all. They can explain any of the cheeses if you are interested. Otherwise, they leave you alone to see and try their cheeses. In the end, It is all a very casual experience and easy place to try and maybe buy Dutch cheeses. It is worth a quick stop even if you're not planning on buying anything.

This is a very nice place for buying quality cheese. I've been going here for years now! I am always happy by how well the people treat you and they recommend what cheeses to buy. And try the beer cheese if you are here, it's pretty unique

The cheese museum should most definitely be on your list of places to visit in Amsterdam however if you’re tight on time, you could give it a pass. The shop above is a cute little cheese shop with plenty of interesting Dutch cheeses to sample and buy. The museum section below is intriguing at most. It’s just a small room filled with cheese making gear and memorabilia, and some cheese related information. It’s a fun little spot however nothing mind blowing
