Thanks to Foam I discovered my passion 15 years ago, photography. It is my favorite museum in Amsterdam. I go regularly to see the exhibitions and I try to be there for the openings, it is always nice to hear from the artists or the curators what the exhibition is about. I love the fact that there are different photographers at the same time, it gives perspective on how photography is evolving and changing and how modern can look something from the last century. If you live in the city, or if you are visiting, don't miss it!!

Beautiful museum showing at the same time several exposition of different artists and styles. At the moment of my visit there were mainly female photographers, from different ages and origins and backgrounds. Very interesting.

An inspiring photography museum that is well worth the visit. I had the opportunity to wander through its current exhibits and learn so much from the artist who tirelessly put the pieces together. The museum was much larger than I had initially anticipated, which was a pleasant surprise as well. If you have the opportunity to visit this museum, please do, you will be happy that you did!

One of the best museums I’ve seen in Amsterdam. Their exhibits are well-designed, multi-lingual, and they have an amazing collection of photo books and magazines.

Great exhibits and so inspirational. Its always fun to visit this gem. It has intimate and grand spaces for galleries. The subject matter and the media is varied, so I learn about photography and how to present it

Great museum! I highly recommend people check out this place when visiting, especially if you're a foreigner interested in photography as a medium. It's one of my favorite galleries globally, having lived in NYC and London.

One of the best photography museums I've been in a long time. This time one of the exhibitions were about the female artists from Saudi Arabia and it was impressive. As well the Sleeping Beauty exhibition was also definitely worth seeing. Take your time in the museum cafe while looking at one of the many photo magazines and books.

I love the old canal house where Foam museum is hosted. The renovation work is very well done- integrating the old parts with modern materials and structures. I like the collection of books and posters of the shop. And it for the exhibitions, it depends. I have been in the museum four times and the quality of them really changes from one time to another. I would suggest you check who is exhibiting before going and make up your mind based on that :) I also recommend to have a look to the museum collection located in the small room at the rooftop, although it was closed last time I visited the museum

Really nice location, a lot bigger on the inside than expected. I think one could be guided more properly. It's explorative (which is nice) but I learned afterwards that I skipped a level without realising. Overall authentic place to present photography. Very happy that I was able to find both really high profile photographers AND young artists

Been twice when visiting Amsterdam- first time the exhibitions were much more 'my cup of tea'- Bechers, Struth, Höfer... This time I could only name Bill Brandt. Other exhibitions are interesting, well curated. FOAM - definitely place to go

I came here to see the Vivian Maer exhibition but it closed 2 weeks before. Like all museums it depends on what’s being exhibited when you visit. The only thing we enjoyed was the exhibition on trans gender in the 1990’s in Holland. Interesting space though

I was surprised and impressed by the diverse variety of exhibition and art styles! I can really relate to a lot of the art/photo pieces personally and the background stories :) the building layout is also very modern and well chosen pieces put on display. Will come back regularly

[visited in December 2023; free entry with Museumkaart; cloak room and lockers for free; very nice café on the ground floor] Eclectic photography exhibitions hosted in a beautiful, roomy house on one of the most exclusive canals of Old Amsterdam. Do research on the FOAM website what’s on show, as it might not necessarily be for everyone. When I visited it was an all female lineup with different styles and themes, and from different eras: Carlijn Jacobs (Sleeping Beauty), Tina Modotti (Artist and Activist), Steffi Reimers (Guilty Grounds - about an area in Calabria controlled by the ‘Ndraghetta) and also a selection of contemporary female artists from Saudi Arabia (Sarah Abu Abdallah, Sarah Khodja, Maha, Malluh a.o.). From the 1920s Communist Modotti to Jacobs’s experiments with artificial intelligence, the range was huge, exciting, thought provoking. I will visit again when I’m in town to see what the FOAM curators come up with next.

I learnt that it’s important to check the exhibits and what galleries are open the day you are going. There were some decent sections, but a lot of it was about War - which was heavy and not what I was expecting to see. Was going to a gallery to be inspired by art, not depressed with real life footage of people in a war. But I’m glad I had the museum card and didn’t pay for the entry here, I was really looking forward to it. Perhaps next time I’m around I will research the exhibits beforehand. And the museum collection was closed the time/day I went, I heard this was a nice part of the gallery. Bit confusing going around. No signs. Just keep walking up the stairs Cool postcards, posters and books at the entry.

Great experience, interesting and impactful exhibits and layouts. Value is pretty good, I would say definitely go if you are a photographer or into photography, even if not it is a great museum stop to make. Staff was pretty friendly overall. You can spend an hour or more and enjoy the whole museum if not busy. There was a cafe that looked good but we didn't try it. There are storage lockers, restrooms and a coat hanging area.

They have some fantastic artists display their work here. However, it never seems to be well curated. This photo is a great example, who would put such a dark image facing a direct light source? You can barley see the image. Still worth a trip, for sure, but also noteworthy as after visiting for over 7 years it seems to be a reoccurring issue.

Quite possibly the world's premiere photography museums. The maze of rooms makes it feel neverending. You literally will be able to spend hours here if you wanted to. There is so much to absorb. Beautiful.

Perfectly sized museum with well curated exhibits. The space is well designed and thoughtout for each one. We enjoyed exploring, and the different vibe found on each floor.

Very nice museum. Now runs an amazing exibition of Ara Güller, highly recommended!

A very nice photography museum, worth a visit if you like this medium. The museum itself is well organised, but there is not a seamless transition from one exhibition space to the next, you need to walk back where you came from and then go to another area. Their selection is really good though, we had the chance to see the photographs of Ara Güler, which were just wonderful. I really left with a feeling of having truly discovered this artist. We spent an hour and a half, but we really took our time to read everything, discuss, look closely at the photos, watch a video that was shown in one of the rooms. So it could also be visited in one hour.

This place may not be top of the list in the tourist guidebooks- but don't tell that to the crowd of locals, of varying ages, enjoying themselves on a recent weekday afternoon. Interesting exhibitions in a well restored building in a nice neighborhood. Nice place that demonstrates that the arts are well and progressing in this historic city

Great museum and the staff is very friendly and helpful! The bar downstairs is cozy and filled with past exhibitions on the walls!

The space was well curated and even though i went on a weekend, it was not overcrowded like many other museums I’ve been to. Reasonably priced and the top level had a nice little library in one of the rooms that you can browse dutch literature and photography books.

Wonderful photography exhibitions. Great interior and spaces. The cafe looked very nice as well. Definitely a gem culture spot in Amsterdam. Ticket is 12 euro per visit.

Definitely recommend checking this place out, even if you aren’t all about museums (like us). Loved the photography; quite inspiring. We spent ~1.5hrs here. Fair price too (12,50 € each)

The layout in the museum was a bit confusing. We went to see the Mous Lamrabat exhibition which was beautiful! Definitely worth the visit, but check the website to see which exhibitions are on.

One of the most interesting museums in Amsterdam with a broad collection with, among others, contemporary, historical and political subjects.

Foam is for all photography lovers. The curatorial work and the exhibition process are so well thought. The building is great and offers its surprises (like the art gallery on the third floor that sale young artists' works for reasonable prices, or the café with a selection of beautiful books). The staff is also very charming and you feel welcomed before even opening your mouth. I wasn't prepared to such beauty!

Cool photography museum on the famous Keizersgracht. Not too big, but nice and innovative exhibitions. Charming.

Nice museum, and specially, I loved the two current exhibitions together, they make a curious contrast between them and it's nice to have it side by side. It's a small place though, I didn't checked it before going but in 1h I was done with everything, and specially because of Covid some parts of it are closed. They are being very careful about the measures, I've been to many museums after the lockdown and this was the only one asking to use mask inside. Congratulations!

Storytelling through photographs. It's definitely worth to visit this place. It will take about 1 to 2 hours to see everything.

A nice place to spend to see some. Exhibitions, look on the site what the show, in 1 or 2 hours you can see all, so enjoy

There’s always something engaging on at Foam, and a great collection of photography books in the lobby shop as well. Definitely worth a visit.

It's not the biggest gallery or museum (not the seat either) but so packed with truly fascinating exhibitions and affecting art. The curation is superb.
