Good place to know about the history of Multatuli. One of his famous book is Max Havelaar. Max Havelaar: Or the Coffee Auctions of the Dutch Trading Company (Dutch: Max Havelaar, of de koffi-veilingen der Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappy) is an 1860 novel by Multatuli (the pen name of Eduard Douwes Dekker), which played a key role in shaping and modifying Dutch colonial policy in the Dutch East Indies in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. In the novel, the protagonist, Max Havelaar, tries to battle against a corrupt government system in Java, which was then a Dutch colony (source: Wikipedia)

Small quirky indy museum devoted to the Dutch writer Multatuli (Eduard Douwes Dekker). It shows some of his furniture, including his writing desk and the couch on which he blew his last. On the ground floor many editions of his work. Multatuli’s most famous novel is β€œMax Havelaar”, an indictment of the Dutch colonial regime in Indonesia, which has world-wide been claimed by both the left and right of the political spectrum as supporting their cause. The curator offered me a private tour, which was most interesting.

A must see if you want to know more about the famous dutch writer Multatuli. He was actually born in this museum and it now holds a fine collection of his belongings and books. There is also a large archive with books written by him and about him

Highly recommend to be visited. No words can describe. My visiting experience just speechless. I know and understand part of Indonesian history from another angle.

Never heard of Multatuli before I explored this museum. But it is absolutely a wise choice coming here. The fun talking with the guide here made me curious and read few pages of Max Havelaar, it is so fun and advanced at that time. Here are precious translated versions of the novel in so many languages. Surprise to see the Chinese versions as a Chinese;)

Visited Ansterdam for my birthday. Stayed at Sebastian's hotel on one of the canals. Great hotel especially if you are lucky to get a canal facing room. Could watch the tour boats go up and down all day and night. Sebastian's was great, staff friendly especially the gentleman who greeted us at the breakfast buffet each morning.

A v small museum and relatively little translated into English or other languages. BUT what it lacks in info the staff make up 100x. Welcoming and knowledgeable and enthusiastic and warm and thoughtful.
