It's a very beautiful small town. A must see place, only on 20 mins drive from Amsterdam. The small village has an open museum, ancient wooden houses and ancient windmills, all very well preserved in a traditional way .This town is 300 to 400 years old.

Absolutely fantastic place! Free parking after purchasing the tickets, English-speaking staff, the museum is dedicated to the history of industry in Zaans and to the history of chocolate production, it is also possible to see the wind-mills, the combined ticket includes entry to 2 mills (1 for grinding raw material for painting, 1 is wood saw), there is even the another mill museum and a clock museum, there are several restaurants / shops inside the area, of course toilets, we spent more than 4 hours there but we did it very quickly, you can spend a whole day there, of course there are souvenirs shops, cheese shop and some rest areas, amazing, perfect!

Visit absolutely recommended. The museum is very interesting and even has the guide (in 6 languages) for free. Very nice and friendly staff. It is advisable to buy the complete package to visit the whole area of the mills and other attractions. From Amsterdam it is easily accessible by bus.

As we were visiting the historical village of Zaanse Schans with all its historical buildings and windmills, we decided to visit the museum there. The excellent exhibition opened our eyes to the importance of this region for the economic development of the Netherlands. It was the largest industrial and trade centre of Europe in the Middle Ages, and the museum shows the development of the wood, cocoa, rice, spices, cloth and household retail industries. We will definitely recommend this museum to any foreign visitors we host in future! Surprised on the cookie “Maria”, famous in Mexico my home country, made there. Had a great experience and recommended highly!

In Zaans Museum you can see history of Netherlands and chocolate Factory. Then you can take a walk around old mills (this part is free), where you can buy souvenirs, cheese and go inside a mill. Overall very Nice, but near water there is an unpleasant smell of water (as you can see on the picture, its green).

Visiting the Zaanse Schans Museum is a special experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Extremely well-preserved and well-kept mills. There is also a museum. You can see traditional Dutch clogs. Very nice traditional houses and mills. Some clogs are really big. Lots of possibilities. You see a lot of history. And also the yami chocolate factory. Perfectly arranged.

A wonderful day trip out from Amsterdam. Windmills galore and the cocoa processing factory adds a chocolatey scent to your stroll. Many picturesque houses sit besides the river. However the wind can be quite intense, so if you have sensitive ears bring an ear cover. Overall incredibly easy to access from the train station and certainly worth it.

Good museum depicts life and contributions of the region to the Netherlands and the world. It has many exhibits, showing the products that came out from the factories that special to the area. Some interactive exhibits, quite suitable for children. Families can spend a couple of hours here.

(Translated by Google) Nostalgia of the highest order. Nice overview and interesting facts about Verkade. Now in Turkish hands the name would disappear, it would still be room. Beware the parking here is very expensive. 10 euros no matter how long you stand. Shame. (Original) Nostalgie van de bovenste plank. Mooi overzicht en wetenswaardigheden over Verkade. All kind of windmills from Holland. One big museum about 'Verkade' and a brand new museum at the end of the route (the black building). Great demonstrations! One flaw is that the pedestrian path (the main route) is way too small (in COVID time more than ever).

Great day for the whole family... Beautiful views and surroundings of real time living and also of the past... The windmills are the highlight but also the other mini museums (clocks, weavers, chocolate etc.) Are nice and informative about the area's history and traditions. For my opinio the zaanse schans ticket (23.5) is not necessary...

This Museum Tells about the impact of windmills on the industry, and there is also a chocolate museum inside. I recommend visiting this museum

The museum is not big but has many interesting things to see. We took audio guides and they were sufficient to get through. The part I liked more was the Verkade pavilion. There one can find a lot about the history of Verkade company and also about their products and work processes. One can try to be a ‘Verkade girl’ sorting cookies and candies😄

This is an interesting, and expansive, museum exploring the history of the region and it's impacts on industry locally and globally. There's a nice audio tour going through products and windmill history, plus a bunch of displays about the daily life of people from back in the day that did not shy away from acknowledging the dark impacts of colonialism and slavery. Everything is very well put together and presented well

Lovely, colourful and innovative museum.. It is located near Amsterdam and a great place to visit for individuals, families and kids. You can see the demo of the production line of biscuit and chocolate making of Verkade. You can also see how the company Verkade has been founded a century ago and how it still exists.. A good successful brand development experience to see.. Highly recommended :)

Great look at the history of the Netherlands, but obviously a tourist trap. It was packed with tourists the day we went, and while it was an interesting view at the historical culture of the area, it felt somewhat artificial. We did have a good time on our tour, though.

A lake in which people can swim. Very nice in the summer! Near the roundabout between the streets Noordzijde and Oostoever there is a pier (wood and stone) where you can seat and soak your feet, sunbathe or jump into the lake (there are also stairs to go in the water). Dogs allowed (it's a public place), haven't seen dogs swimming, though; I guess because there is no easy way for them to go out of the water (there's no shore it's a pier). Only some occasional seaweed and very little waste in the water. Depending on the time there might not be any shadows to cover yourself from the sun! There is a point of drinking water near the roundabout! You can also swim in this lake or lie at Sloterpark.

(Translated by Google) A surprise for us when we got rid of the Zaanse Schans, we saw Verkade Pavilion. Really nice to learn the history of Verkade, how the company has changed over the years. Also great to see a real factory inside, there are many informative games and finally you will of course get a cookie or chocolate!

(Translated by Google) So nice and surprising that the Zaanse schans is beside it. The museum tells you about the past and the major brands that come from the region. And then you have the Verkade Experience. Takes you through the history of Verkade. And it also shows how the chocolate and cookies are made. The children can color a wrapper and it is then wrapped around a real chocolate bar. We find that a bit disappointing.

(Translated by Google) A very nice part of the Zaans museum. Learned a lot about the history of Verkade, but also about the products and raw materials they work with. The volunteers also had fun stories and anecdotes. In addition, there were some games that were fun for both children and adults. Highly recommended to spend an hour or two. (Original) Een ontzettend leuk onderdeel van het Zaans museum. Veel geleerd over de geschiedenis van Verkade, maar ook over de producten en grondstoffen waar ze mee werken. Een aanrader om een of twee uurtjes door te brengen.

The museum was nice but quite short, 30minutes is probably the time you will spend in it. The Verkade museum was the best part of it.

Lots of info and artifacts to see. Too bad the Monet was off being evaluated. I hope they are able to display it again soon. Very interesting in the Verkade display building at the end of the museum. Don't know if I will go again, but I am glad I went 😊

Don't miss visiting that beautiful place. I would recommend you spend the day here and come back to Amsterdam because here everything is expensive compared to Amsterdam.

Really cool museum with lots of traditional and themed shops nearby. The museum staff were happy to help plan out a trip to the nearby area too. The whole museum actually doesn't take too long to go around (only about 1h15m for us without an audioguide) but that means you have lots of time for everything else in the village. The toasties in the cafe are also really fresh and filling.

Very pleasant small vintage Dutch village. Just 20kms away from Amsterdam. You can easily spend full day with family. It has parking for cars for 11 euros full day. They also have fresh cheese Museum, where you can taste various delicious cheese and can buy also. Also has small cafes and souvenirs shops. Must visit if you plan for Amsterdam.

A good place to start your tour in De Zaanse Schans. You can purchase a ticket for visiting 7 museums in the area. Not too extensive but there are definitely interesting pieces to see. There’s also a chocolate factory at the end (not open the whole day) where children can accomplish tasks to get a present.

Much authentic place. Nice view and possibility to visit windmills. Free entrance to the park, paid to enter windmill. If you travel by yourself the easiest way to get there is by bus from Amsterdam central station by connexxion bus. Tickets are available in gray machine on cental station, bus stop is upstairs. Ticket price is 11.5 euro and it is valid to the end of the day from the check in moment on both directions. Also you can get the train, but need to walk for a while. So if weather is not the best chose the bus. It come straight to park gate.

You can see a lot of it by just paying for the parking. 11 Euro parking, 1 euro each bathroom, $30 euro each if you want to see all of it. Even in December it was so busy on a Sunday that it wasn't a nice walk.
