The butterfly glasshouse was definitely something we didn’t expect to see when we entered! Even though it’s a small place it’s super nice to see all these different butterflies just flying around and enjoying the snacks. They have also other glasshouses with tropical plants, cacti and palm trees which are all nice to walk around. Definitely recommend visiting, especially on good weather!

Lovely and quaint botanical gardens, accessible for a reasonable fee of €12. Entry allows access to the grounds, including a butterfly house, a three climate greenhouse, and a nice glasshouse building too. Not an absolute essential if you’re in Amsterdam but very much worth your time if you’re in the area and want to relax for an hour or two. Café was nothing special but toilet facilities are available.

Nice little garden to visit. You can visit beautiful butterflies in a little green house too. The visit is quite fast as the park is quite small. We may not have been the luckiest either as we went there in fall so it may be even prettier in spring. If you go there, it is definitely worth to take a small break in the cafe where they serve very nice drinks brunch-like food and desserts in a pretty space!

Worth the cost of entry, you can buy tickets ahead of time, but we found it wasn’t too busy when we showed up and they will get you in quite quickly. Huge historic green houses, tons of unique plants. It was great to see. They even sell plants in the gift shop as you are leaving. Highly recommend as one of your stops while in Amsterdam.

It's a quiet little getaway in the city and lovely place to take a little breather. The gardens are really pretty and a great place to relax. I recommend buying your ticket online before, the line at the counter can be long and slow, so buying online allows you to skip this and enter without issues. The tickets are also not too expensive and you definitely get your money's worth.

Lovely place with a ton of different plants. Although not the biggest garden I’ve been to but had some unique simulations for different climates which was interesting. Specially the tropical rainforest simulation was extraordinary as you can feel the air, temperature and the light as if it was the actual forest. They also have a room full of butterflies which sit on fruits and flowers which was fun to around. Overall a relaxing experience if you like plants. The coffee shop is a must to try, specially their home made cakes 😋😋😋

Wonderful garden, totally worth a visit. A 20min walk from the centre enters you in a different continent! Enjoy the outside area or the inside jungle by the river. Grab a book and enjoy the beauty and the silence! On the way out you can buy yourself a plant or books from the wonderfully curated collection. The personnel is really friendly. A totally positive experience.

It’s a small botanical garden with not great variety of plants. Not many plants are growing outside due to Amsterdam’s climate conditions. Still has some beautiful spots. You can get lost inside for 2 hours maximum. Can pay the entrance fee only by card, and there are some maps available in Dutch and English.

This was one of the best botanical garden I did. The path was really well done as you have a lot to see on and off the ground. There is a bridge so you can see plants and trees from the top. There was also a butterfly house which was really great. The garden is nice so when you’re done with the 2 separated big greenhouses you can walk around outside. It’s 11,50€ per person but it was really worth it in my opinion.

Fantastic place to resource and energize. Vast variety of plants and trees from all over the world. The heated greenhouse with tropical and wet forest species is a Must Watch. The old 1923 greenhouse is extraordinary, if only from architectural standpoint.

A beautiful garden containing an amazing amount of plant species. They don't want you to touch the plants, but sometimes this is inevitable given the fact that the paths can be partially overgrown. They have many different climates in the greenhouse, from desert to rain forest. Lots of opportunity to see a varied amount of plants and flowers. There was even one place where they specifically laid out some thing to touch, smell, and even taste. Overall it was a nice visite, something that is good for all ages.

This was essentially a lovely morning stroll surrounded by some amazingly beautiful plants, trees and butterflies. Great for filling a morning when nursing yesterday’s hangover waiting to start drinking again ;) Very tranquil and worth a trip if you don’t want to spend the morning inside in a museum. We spent about 2.5 hours there. We didn’t stop for food or drink but the cafe looked very nice.

As a botanical garden you can see vegitation from all continents in different greenhouses. Don't expect to see something extraordinary because this place is for studying purposes and not only for show off. Nevertheless, it's very interesting if you have patient to read the informational placards.

I visited both midday and in the night; it was amazing! There are many beautiful very important and historic plants in it. When you go into the palm greenhouse, you start feeling like in jurassic period! I loved it, I loved it all the garden. Will definitely visit again.

A nice way to spend an hour or so. It costs around £10pp which I thought was fair. The green houses are fantastic, there are loads of huge exotic plants and walkways up high so you can admire the plants from all angles. The butterfly house was also lovely. The outdoor garden however was pretty dead in March, a huge area had been dug up and there were a lot of bare branches. Understandable but a price discount during the cooler months would be reasonable.

Beautiful Botanical Garden in the City of Amsterdam. It's a bit early in the season for many of the flowers, shrubs or trees to be in bloom. The tulips did show up for our visit. Well designed gardens to walk through and enjoy all of the plantings, the tulips were open and just beautiful. There are multiple greenhouses to visit, one filled with butterflies who are very friendly. A fun way to spend a few hours, and off the beaten track so the crowds are smaller. The adult cost to enter is 12.50 Euro.

We were lucky enough to have great weather during our visit. The greenery is absolutely gorgeous. Entering the different greenhouses with different climates was such a nice experience. Definitely worth the visit even if its not that big.

Thought it was quite pricey for what was there, €12.50 per person entry. We walked around a small outside area, then went into the butterfly house. Although the butterflies were beautiful it was very humid and small. The other glass houses were interesting. However, none of the signs on the plants had any English translations that we saw. There was also a cafe but we did not go in there.

Amsterdam's Botanical Gardens are the perfect place to spend a quiet moment amidst a beautiful variety of biodiversity. Many plants and trees are present, with interesting explanations. You can relax in the garden and have a good time, especially in fine weather.

Quaint, out of the way and cute, this botanical marvel was truly a great place to visit for people who want some time away from the hectic life of the inner city. With little foot-traffic and an easy to follow route from the Centre to get to this place it makes the perfect spot for a couple hours of walking through gardens.

Really beautiful wee spot outside the hustle and bustle of central Amsterdam. Nice place to go and chill for a while. The tropical zone was appreciated on a cold January day in Dam.

The experience was so bad, the price it’s super expensive and you can’t see any flowers. We came in March normally you can see flowers starting to grow up but the garden was dry, nobody take care of it and nobody advice in the entrance about it

  • 5/5 Andrew L. 2 years ago on Google
This is a beautiful garden with a large variety and very mature plants. Well worth the admission cost

  • 4/5 Dan S. 2 years ago on Google
Pretty cool botanic gardens! Not the best I have seen (the one in Brussels is much more impressive). But still pretty cool! Tickets are a bit overpriced, but if you really are into some ancient botanics and want to learn about some of the oldest plants - this is the place! There is a cafe and toilets, so don’t worry to hang around for long.

Nice place, don't forget to see the desert, tropic and butterfly rooms. Very moody. 11.5€ for adults 6.5 for students If you go just 1 hour before the closing time the ticket fee is 6.5 euros for everyone.

  • 4/5 Rick M. 2 years ago on Google
To start with I was finding the gardens a bit boating, but as you get deeper into the gardens the more interesting it gets. Inside the greenhouses then it really captures you.the tropical plants recreates a jungle, in another greenhouse there were palms and cacti. We especially enjoyed the butterfly house. Initially I thought e11.50 entrance was a bit over the top, but when we left I thought it was money well spent. In a city like Amsterdam, it was a surprise to find this little gem. It is located 1.8 km from grand Central station , just past the Rembrandt house.. I strongly recommend this, if just to prove you can find peace and tranquility in the centre of Amsterdam.

I visited the garden in February, and although I had already planned to go back in spring, I have to say it’s totally worth visiting during winter as well. Most of the outdoor plants are obviously less impressive during the cold season, but I was surprised at how many beautiful, colourful flowers were blooming nonetheless. The staff is super friendly and the butterfly house was the highlight of the visit.

Came here on a rainy and cold Monday and warmed up in a tropical atmosphere... It was nice and peaceful and well worth the visit. And they had one of the best Gluhwein we've had in a while (and we had just arrived from Berlin).

  • 5/5 Gökberk Y. 4 months ago on Google
The entrance fee is 13.50 euros per person. Despite going on a rainy and stormy day in winter, the ambiance inside was enchanting. You can encounter various kinds of flowers. I would have loved to see this place in summer!

  • 5/5 FLORA S. 2 years ago on Google
Such a beautiful garden to visit! Even if we thought that the entrance was a bit expensive (11,5 per person) the walk make us feel so relaxed and happy! Definitely a place to visit

Excellent place to stay inside a long time and even buying seed for the own garden was possible. Especially the Tropical Garden in the Greenhouse, excellent !

When we went, the ticketeer forced everyone to pay with card- and we purchased the incorrect tickets but they still allowed us to-get in for our inconvenience, first time in a butterfly room and so close to them. Shame it was only 2 types of butterfly’s and not the multiple species- would’ve loved to see the darling blues! But they have an incredibly old collections that is amazing! The rainforest and dessert rooms were cool in the middle of Amsterdam!

  • 5/5 Kaitlin H. 2 years ago on Google
Love the element of being able to scan the QR code next to the plant to find out more about it in English, the cafe has lovely outdoor seating when it's sunny and the walking high up amongst the plants is great!

  • 5/5 Tanja P. 4 months ago on Google
Really nice place, where you can get lost in "tropical forest" or just admire a lot of different species of trees and flowers. My visit was in December but it was still nice, but I would also like to see it during spring or summer, when there is a lot more to see outside.

  • 5/5 Emma C. 8 months ago on Google
Just Wow!!! Had an incredible time. Loved inside the greenhouse with the treetop walkway and the jungle side of the greenhouse. Beautiful grounds and beautiful plants. Highly recommend visiting. Couldn't pay with cash for entry had to be done on card

  • 5/5 Todd G. 5 months ago on Google
Really enjoyed my visit. It was the fall so the garden was in transition and going to sleep for the winter but still beautiful. Not a lot of butterflies in the butterfly room, but the few that were there were stunning.

I found the gardens a bit small, but they were still quite nice. The place honestly looked like paradise. Excellent selection of different plants and climates.

  • 5/5 Megan B. 2 years ago on Google
A beautiful escapism from the hustle a bustle of the city centre. I would say it was like a mini Eden Project with separate glass houses for climates. The addition of higher walkways to see the plants from alternative perspectives was great. The majority was indoors so is great on a rainy day.

  • 5/5 Jana P. 6 months ago on Google
Absolutely loved it! Even though the weather was rainy, it was so lovely seeing all of the plants, the butterfly garden, the greenhouses... The cute little cafe had really good chai latte and I'm tempted to buy a loyalty card because I need to go there again and then have the soup. Staff was super friendly. Definitely recommend going if you like to have a little stroll through a rain forest in Amsterdam!

  • 4/5 Alycia P. 5 months ago on Google
Had a great time visiting this botanical garden although not the best I have ever been too just the oldest In Europe. We went on a day that it was raining so it made it had to get from one building to another. They had a cafe that I did not go to and a gift shop filled with all sorts of good things

  • 5/5 Aleksandar S. 5 months ago on Google
It's delightful! Provides an excellent escape from the bustling city, and the greenhouses are really packed and beautiful, and there is a part of the greenhouse that is especially humid, and has exotic plants. There is also a small greenhouse enclosure with the butterflies. I recommend visiting the Hortus, even in autumn.

My dream .I really liked it, I'm a flowerer I sell Mediterranean plants in Hungary anyway. I import a lot from the Netherlands. I know most of the palms, but there were some interesting things for me too. bluecycas I've always wanted to see.

A great place to see most of plants in over the world including tropical plants, nice atmosphere also, but a little bit small than expected. However it's suitable for someone do not have much time but want some places to relax.

  • 4/5 Antonia B. 11 months ago on Google
One of the oldest botanical gardens in the entire world with a selection of more than 4000 different plants. A very peaceful and beautiful place in the midst of a hectic city. The cafe inside offers yummy food, perfect for a lunch break with multiple vegetarian and vegan options to choose from. Absolutely recommend coming here!

  • 5/5 Iordanis T. 2 years ago on Google
A really nice place with many greenhouses to visit especially the one with the butterflies. Also the 'tropical' greenhouse with the fantastic staircase that you cross from above is amazing. Worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Jannis B. 2 years ago on Google
Great botanical gardens! I loved the old buildings. The butterfly house was amazing, never saw so many butterflys so close. Very nice thing in Amsterdam that is not on the list of every tourist I would assume.

  • 5/5 Ivy A. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful botanical gardens. It's €10 for students and it's a lovely place to explore for a few hours. The enclosed butterfly house, gardens, and palm house were really nice on a chilly day, and the rest of the grounds were nice to see the variety of plants and learn some fun facts about them and the gardens.

  • 4/5 Sky H. 1 year ago on Google
I love this place it's fun and there is so much to see. It would be cool if there was a little bit more to read about plants and there conditions and stuff! They have deliciouse food and a super cute shop. Staff is really nice and open for questions🙌

A great botanical garden in the middle of the Amsterdam city. The garden itself is not that big but they have a great selection of plants. The botanical garden also have to greenhouses. This have different environments for the different plants. The botanical garden is recommended if you have the time and need some relaxing time.

This place is beautiful, has both the appeal of nature as well as tidbits of history and information about several of the trees, plants and species. There’s both indoor and outdoor areas so good for a rainy day. if you’re a student they have a discounted entry fee There’s also heated greenhouses like the butterfly room and the tropic area

  • 5/5 Kiira A. 1 year ago on Google
So happy I went, they have a very wide variety of plant species, and the butterfly house and tropical houses are very well done and maintained. An informative and chill experience that doesn’t take too long! Going here brought me great joy!
