Beautiful gallery space with masterpieces abound — Vermeer, Rembrandt, Hals, and many more — all hung well and the gallery space used to perfection. Staff were nice too which is a lovely added bonus. Spent an hour and a half inside but you could easily spend two hours or more. Elevators for access and toilets are available too. Absolutely essential if you are in The Hague.

I usually get bored after more than 2 hours in a museum. This one was perfect: marvelous paintings, it is not so big, just 2 floors, not very crowded, it was a delight. We enjoyed it a lot and somehow it is on 1st place when it comes to museums.

I complimented a nice lady about her beautiful name, Saskia. She smiled and told me it was the same as Rembrandt's wife. I said, a very famous name, too! So, it was befitting to go The Hague to check out Rembrandt and admire other famous masterpieces. 🌍🇳🇱❤️

We visited this museum on a Sunday morning. We were the first visitors, it started becoming very crowded later on. Why I recommend this museum: 1) The building İt is a beautifully restored ancient 3 stories stone house. Pay attention to the exceptional wooden staircases. 2) Paintings by Johannes Vermeer, of which Girl with a Pearl Earring is the most famous. 3) Works by Rembrandt. There is also a decent museum shop. Enjoy

Beautiful museum full of amazing paintings. It was great to see the original of the girl with the pearl earring. Although it is a bit smaller than I thought it was not disappointing at all. Other than Wermeer, you can also see some Rembrandt paintings as well as other masterpieces. Highly recommended. It is also worth mentioning that the museum is free of charge for museum card holders.

The paintings on display here are absolutely incredible. They only have the best of the best. This might also have something to do with the actual museum not being very big and them having to consider every inch of space. The result is a very packed experience, but also quite crowded rooms. They state you Have to book tickets online, which is more convenient probably, but we didn't and still got in.

A must visit if you are in The Hague. The weather was perfect thay day. The tickets are 17.5 € if you dont have a museum pass. You can find artwork by Rembrandt, Vermeer and other famous artists. And of course there is the girl in the pearl earring. I will definitely recommend this museum, not just for the famous paintings that is houses but also the building with makes you awestruck.

The Mauritshuis is a fairly small museum that you could get through in an hour if you’re in a hurry. It did take us a little over two hours to read the descriptions and to admire the works of art. The Girl with Pearl Earrings by Johannes Vermeer can be found here along with many other well known works by Dutch artists. Buying tickets worked out well for us as there was a fairly long line of people waiting to purchase tickets even on a weekday so I would recommend doing so.

The museum was initially built as a house for John Maurice, a cousin of stadholder Frederick Henry. Hence the name. The museum is not too big, but the collection is excellent, with paintings of Hals, Rembrandt and Vermeer on display, among others. All is presented in richly decorated interiors of palatial house (sadly, money were made at least partially by slave trade). The most famous painting here is, of course, "Girl with a Pearl Earring", located on the second floor, an icon of Dutch art, glorified in the movie of the same name.

Visited the Mauritshuis with my family and young children and it was an absolute delight. The museum's art collection captivated us all, with its rich array of Dutch masters and Flemish art from the 17th century. The masterpieces, including the world-famous "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Vermeer, were not only a treat for the adults but also engaging for the children who were free. The museum's size was perfect for a family visit; it was neither too big nor too busy, allowing us to move easily from room to room without feeling overwhelmed. The building itself is a work of art, with sparkling chandeliers and colorful ceiling paintings that add to the charm and make the experience feel like an adventure

This magnificent museum houses the most important collection of Dutch Masters from the Golden Age: Rembrandt, Vermeer, Jan Steen among others. Vermeer's Girl with a Golden Earring is so mesmerising that one can stare at it for hours! A visit to this museum is a MUST

A very beautiful building in denhaag. It houses some of the most important art in the Netherlands. We were unable to explore the museum as we reached around 5:30 pm. A little before the closing time. But our guide told us it is definitely worth a visit when we are in town next. The building itself is beautiful and is very well located close to the parliament. It houses paintings from the dutch golden age and is also listed in the top 100 Dutch Heritage sites.

Interesting art, the museum itself is quite small you can walk through it all in one to two hours. Beautifully decorated interior and well built art collection. While it houses iconic painting like Girl with a Pearl Earring, it does have a lot of colonizer art.

Beautiful, smaller museum with some great Flemish paintings, including a few relevant by Rembrandt, Rubens and their contemporary painters. Unfortunately some crazy yahoo glued himself to the Girl with the Pearl Earring that same day, so we couldn’t see it (while I’m all for saving the planet and increasing awareness about climate change, I am all against destroying art to gain that awareness). All in all, highly recommended museum for a quick visit (a 2-3 hours maximum) in a beautiful city

Interesting Museum :-) 12.50e student, 1:25h visit in April. The museum is nicely done with a good downloadable app to listen & read the paintings' descriptions (search by number, painter and key words). They have a few sitting benches in a few rooms, so you can sit down, listen and admire the different works of art. It was quite busy, with multiple tour groups around, but It could also because of the rainy afternoon.

Another wonderful museum set in an old city palace built 1644 and became a museum in 1822. Housing art from the "golden age" , the surrounding area is worth a visit in itself.

Spent an hour in the museum which was great stop along my route. There are many great paintings and you can easily take more time to read and listen about each one. As my visit was at weekday afternoon there was no big crowds at the entrance.

Beautiful, but hedge your expectations for a small venue. It's delightfully curated with a sampling of the best Dutch artists. You simply can't go wrong with a cup of coffee followed by a morning stroll through this place.

Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring is said to exceed the value of Mona Lisa in a sense (guide's sale) I watched a girl with Vermeer's pearl earrings. Even though it's such a world-famous painting You can thoroughly enjoy the splendor of the painting. The appearance of the building is quaint, but the area around the souvenir shop was modern.

Absolutely a must-go place when visiting The Hague. A wonderful collection of art in a relatively small and not-so-crowded museum. Additionally nice architecture of the entrance hall located under ground in the city centre.

Excellent art museum with just the right amount of pieces. Not too much or too big where you decide to start rushing through. Even the children enjoyed it as they felt like there was enough variety. One of the best art museums we have ever visited!

Must visit when you’re in town at Den Hague. I bought ticket in advance at website. Easy to access and use. Have to put your water bottle and large bag in the storage. Exhibition itself is pretty great! See lots of the collections at once. Worth it! Weekday not many people. Highly recommend it

A must visit for every tourist visiting Den Hague. Excellent collection of paintings. Houses the famous "Girl with a Pearl Earring" painting, a master puece by Johannes Vermeer. Other paintings of Vermeer are also on display. Also houses a self portrait of Rembrandt. Many still life paintings are a treat to the eye. Many exhibits displayed portrays daily life style of common people, thus providing a glimpse of their daily chores, like milking cows, making cheese, doctors visits, kitchen scenes, dinning etc. Houses many excellent painting of great European artists. A must visit for every Art connoisseur. Exhibition is spread over two floors. It also houses a souvenir shop and a cafe.

Superb collection of Dutch masters whose works are displayed in historically important and charming Mauritshuis Palace... Go early to avoid the often large groups visiting from every corner of the planet. A not so hidden gem... But well worth a visit!

A wonderful place, has some of the best Old Dutch or Flemish art (16-17th century mostly), including, most famously, The Girl with a Pearl Earring. This is by no means all but, importantly, it also very manageable in terms of size. Louvre it isn’t, you’ll be done in under two hours, and that’s taking in every exhibit.

We loved our experience at mauritshuis! The collection is small but so worthwhile and features the girl with the pearl earring as well as the goldfinch. I found the plaques to be less informative than at other museums we've visited, with only the artists name and the painting title but no information besides. A good gift shop as well, with many postcards, prints, and books. Worth your time!

A worth visit to the famous Dutch painters work of art. We are lucky to visit this museum just in time when the painting The Girl with the Pearl Earing came back to Den Haag after a loan from Rijksmuseum. The museum looks small from the outside, but it is actually spacious from the inside. I suggest that buying ticket in advance is very advantage, so that you will not be bothered to wait in line. Coat check is available and back pack is not allowed during your visit. The whole visit was seamless. Staffs are courteous. We took our time to visit the place as sometimes the room can be too crowded with a group tour for a minute, but as soon as they leave, I will take my time to appreciate the art. Boutique is available at the lobby.

Visited the Mauritshuis on a weekday afternoon and it was quite crowded, seem to be around 75% capacity full. This museum is one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands. From the interior design of the museum, paintings and explanation beside each exhibit, you will really enjoy your time here. They also have lockers to place bags and coats at the reception area. The entrance fees is EUR 20 unless you have an annual museum card, which allows access to all museums annually for around EUR 70. The Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis, located at a unique 17th-century palace in The Hague, has the highest number of masterpieces per square metre in the Netherlands. The museum houses a world-famous collection of paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. This exceptional collection offers an amazing overview of Dutch and Flemish paintings from 1400 to 1800, with works by painters such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, Rubens, Jan Steen, Frans Hals, Van Dyck and Adriaen Coorte.

Definitely a must see museum while you are in Den Haag, I spent about four hours here. Make sure to take your own headphones so you can scan the QR code and listen to the audio descriptions. Makes it a much more immersive experience. The building's architecture is a marvel in its own right. And of course with so many Dutch Golden Age paintings and artists you've got to take it all in.

Tiny but very beautiful museum that hosts some of the most important Dutch paintings, such as The girl with the pearl earring, View over Delft or The Goldfinch. The building is exquisite and a short walk from the town center and the central train station. An absolute must see for art lovers and very recommended for everybody else. It won't take you more than two hours to visit it and you won't regret the experience!

impressive collection of dutch golden age masterpieces even w/out vermeer's pearled girl. beautifully renovated architecture & baroque style galleries; always a happy visit. -1 star for the institution's lack of action against its colonial + slavery past.

The collection is worth visiting, the paintings I rate 5 stars. The experience was however lukewarm, I was visiting with my children and I felt they were absolutely not welcome, with guards walking literally behind and next to us to point out every possible child behavior that would not adjust to "behave like an adult in a museum". Sad. My advice, dont bring your kids to this place.

Beautiful museum, the building and the art of the old dutch masters. We also enjoyed the temporary exposition. The museum did a good job respecting the Covid19 distance requirement on a friendly way.

  • 4/5 Natália L. 4 years ago on Google
Great museum for paintings, especially some of the Dutch masters. The interior is also nice. However I did miss some more information about it all; only a few paintings have some extra info. You might need a good 1,5 hour or more to see everything. If paintings are not your thing, don't loose any time here. They do accept the Dutch Museum Card.

I visited this museum almost 4 years ago, but I still remember the day I saw the world famous painting "a girl with a pearl earring" here. I was breathless, the colors were bright and its contrast are perfectly fusioned. It just stayed there, I saw her eyes look back me and could see them forever. I immersed myself there. I am not a professional in art but all paintins I saw here were telling stories. I wish I could visit there again.

(Translated by Google) Nicely designed museum with a few masterpieces. Very special location. The museum's appearance is stiff and elitist. Not suitable for young children. Two cons (therefore two stars less): 1. In terms of corona it is not in order. It is very difficult to get in and out of the building, but anything is allowed in the museum itself. Mouth mask off, coughing on the painting (yes really) and more people in the halls than intended ... There is also no course, which results in many crossings and people against the current. In addition, the staff has given up on managing the flow of visitors. They are talking to each other about cows and calves and collecting dust in different corners. The few places with signage, the hall and the shop, are also not that clear. You stand where you are supposed to but the employee asks you to come where you are not allowed ... ok ... I have visited a number (10) of museums with corona measures: it was clearly the least successful here. 2. The staff. In recent times I had very nice and friendly staff in the various museums. This is very disappointing in the Mauritshuis. They all seem to be depressed forced laborers who perceive a visitor as a burden and would not want to be anywhere in the museum. It's hardly a question of getting an answer to your greeting and when you need to do something for reason x or y, they give you orders like they do with the military.

A beautifull museum with high quality art from Rembrandt and Vermeer and other masters.

Nice museum with Rembrandt artworks. The Girl with the Pearl Earrings isn't as impressive as the Bull painting imo. Great interior.

A very deluxe collection in a beautiful historic setting. The staff are friendly and helpful, and manage the Covid regulations very well.

My favorite museum in Den Haag! Great works from Rembrandt, Vermeer and Jan Steen. Cafe is overpriced for what you get, just go the one of the cafes on the square (Plein) close the museum.

Great Dutch masters collection, of course with the classic Girl with the Pearl Earring. However some painting explanations were a bit awkward. Also beautiful building. May be a bit smaller than you expected.

Must visit when in The Hague and not only for Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring. Is housed in one of the prettiest manors of The Hague and houses an impressive collection of Flemish masterpieces. When we visited an exhibition was ongoing on the flower arts of The Netherlands which was also a beauty to see. Tickets are usually available on site if not booked in advance without waiting too long. Recommend setting aside 1.5 - 2 hours for the visit. A tip is to follow the highlights tour on their app.

A great museum, beautiful interiors that add class and allow you to wonderfully display the works of great Artists. I recommend everyone to experience live art of the highest quality.

A high quality museum. The art work is amazing and the environment is friendly. The guidance app system is useful and knowledgeable but has some troubles that some QR code can’t work and some art’s works number on the app are different from the actually number.

Very beautiful, it was under construction when I visited. Couldn't see the front. But very beautiful, incredible architecture. Very clean and organized, I went on a Friday, there was not much movement.

Beautiful museum and the staff was amazing, we went with our 2 year old child in the pram and immediately they offered a second lift to get to the top floor that's not usually for visitors (it's concealed behind a wall) so there's more accessibility than you might think. The artwork was impressive and felt much like it would be displayed in a house like this.

Greatttt art gallery and museum!! Highly Recommend going if you come to the Hague. The architecture of the museum itself is so pretty! There are so many paintings, 2 floors and more than 16 rooms! More details can be found on their website.

One of the Museums to be visited every view months. Small, but so beautiful! Both the surroundings, buildings, exterior, interior, and the art collection. Dreaming of moving to The Hague and visiting this gorgeous place once a month.

Very interesting museum where you may see paintings of Vermeer and Rembrandt, including "most famous portrait in the world" - Girl with the Pearl Earning. The museum is not so big, 16 halls, the entree fee is 19 euro. It is better to buy tickets beforehand online. Must see in Den Haag / The Hague.

We loved this art museum, much more than the over crowded Rijks in Amsterdam. Timed entry and easy to see everything. Seating in most of the rooms. Elevator for those who need it. Classics, including Rembrandts and or course, Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring. Excellent gift shop.

Similar to Escher, this is almost a 2 for 1 tour. You get to see beautiful masterworks, but you also get to experience the beautiful architecture of Mauritshuis (and sad history of how it came to be). While it was exceptionally, rather annoyingly busy; it was less so than that of its contemporaries in London, Amsterdam, or Paris. The layout made for a smooth transition from room to room. However, I would avoid the usual busy times such as weekends. Tips: download their free app for an excellent audio tour experience, and bring headphones. Also, discounts can be found online, we managed to save €4 per person.

Beautiful place with beautiful paintings. The audio guide is perfect and helps you understand the experience in more detail. Friendly staff and the building has a beautiful strip on the outside.

Very nice 2 floor museum. Easy to tour, and the application was very helpful. So make sure you go with your earphones. App is completely free, and you can also see more images and of course, hear the details and stories of paintings. They also exhibit the pigments that were used to paint The Girl with Pearl Earring. Since it is my special interest, I really liked it.

Great art museum containing various works of Dutch artists, most noticably “A Girl With a Dutch Earring” by Johannes Vermeer. The museum also contains a high resolution scan of the said painting, which is zoomed and 3D printed, so you can feel the canvas itself!

Great 3-floor museum with an efficient layout and magnificent works by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and others. "The Girl with a Pearl Earring" is the best piece. This is a must-see if you visit The Netherlands!

One of the most beautiful museums I’ve eve visited! It’s not big but organized so beautifully. It’s home for Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring and Goldfinch by Fabritius. Take your time discovering all the rooms and visit a beautiful shop later.

Yes, there she is. “The Girl with the Pearl Earring painted by Johannes Vermeer. The building is stunning and it was once a home. This is a must see. Book online for tickets and choose your entry time too. I won’t spoil it for you, but just know that the collection will far exceed your expectations, all seen in this grand home. Enjoy every moment.

Beautiful collection of art mainly renaissance and christian art. Lovely collection and the full walkthrough takes about 1.5 hours. Some must see pieces like the girl with the pearl and some Rembrandt paintings. Amazing for art lovers and definitely worth your time!! Make sure to book tickets beforehand and to go early to avoid big crowds and long waits.

Beautiful building with the most wonderful collection ...all the Dutch favourites here without the overcrowding you sometimes get at Rijks Museum...very easy to get up close and really see the art. Hot chocolate and apple tart in cafe was pretty good too 😄👍too many glorious pictures to choose faves but here's a couple to wet your appetite.....

Went there mainly to see original Vermeer paintings, and most importantly “The Girl With The Pearl Earring”. She looked gorgeous :) The museum building used to be the residence of the prince, so it is a grandiose and chic palace by the water. There are LOTS of paintings, it is a heaven for art enthusiasts, especially for 17th, 18th and 19th century admirers. It was great to see some Rembrandt (The Anatomy Class), Brueghel and soooo many others! Great place, must visit!

A must visit art museum in Haag (actually in the Netherlands!) where you can see the masterpiece of Vermeer and Rembrandt. The museum gets busier and busier so I would highly recommend to go there at 10 am which is the opening time so that you can avoid congestion in the museum.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Mauritshuis. The size of the museum really appealed to me. Unlike other prestigious museums, you didn't feel overwhelmed by the amount of art on display (e.g. Rijksmuseum Amsterdam). At no point did I feel harassed by other visitors and I had plenty of time to take a closer look at each work of art from different angles. I can only warmly recommend the museum to everyone. I also recommend a visit to the well-stocked museum shop.
