Grand church near to Amsterdam central station. Great interior paintings and windows. The main facade is flanked by two towers, with a rose window in between. The centre of this window contains a bas-relief sculpture, depicting Christ and the four Evangelists, made in the Van den Bossche and Crevels workshop in 1886. A sculpture of the patron saint of both the church and the city of Amsterdam is also placed in a niche in the upper section of the gable top. The well-known sculptor Bart van Hove (1850-1914) made the sculpture in 1886. The crossing of the main body of the church is articulated by a large octagonal tower with a baroque style dome and lantern, crowned by a cross. The basis of the floor plan is a classic three-aisled cross-basilica, with a nave, two aisles and a single transept. The choir has a conventional location, at the end of the nave. At the south-east ends of each side aisle, two chapels are located: one devoted to Mary and one to Joseph. It is a few minutes walk away from Amsterdam train station.

Beautiful basilica, with mass held in 12:30 from Monday to Saturday. Entrance is free, which is quite rare for a church in Amsterdam

Located opposite Amsterdam Central Station this magnificent monument is the most important Roman Catholic church in the capital. I wasn't able to enter this time but could only admire the architect from outside which is absolutely stunning even on a cloudy day. I'm determined to return soon!

An amazing basilica, especially in terms of the wall paintings that cover the entire interior of the church. I recommend watching the Stations of the Cross, which are brilliantly combined with scenes from the Old Testament just above the fragments of Jesus' way. Mass during the week is at 12:30, the better it is to pray surrounded by such beauty. A must-see point from the gems of Amsterdam.

The Basilica of Saint Nicholas (Dutch: Basiliek van de Heilige Nicolaas) is located in the Old Centre district of Amsterdam, Netherlands, very close to Amsterdam's main railway station. It is the city's primary Roman Catholic church. The church is built on a previously urban site, necessitating a northwest-southeast axis to be adopted, rather than the standard east-west axis. It lies between the street, Prins Hendrikkade, and the canal, Oudezijds Kolk. When built, the church was called St. Nicholas inside the Walls, i.e. inside the Amsterdam City wall, the oldest part of the Amsterdam defence works. The architect, Adrianus Bleijs (1842-1912) designed the church based on a combination of several revival styles: the most prominent being the Neo-Baroque and neo-Renaissance. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful church, no photos allowed inside so you'll have to check it out yourself. The architecture was magnificent, and the seats inside very comfortable. No matter your faith, coming here to pray to a force greater than ourselves is an experience like no other. Highly recommend, even for a quick stop.

This church is close to Amsterdam Central Station and can be entered free of charge. There are many highlights inside, such as the stained glass behind, the blue stained glass on the ceiling, and the pipe organ.

We went to the church Saturday afternoon just to look how beautiful the inside was. Its a very pretty church and when we went in the choir started singing. It was build in 1884 and finished 1887. The windows are beautiful inside and so are the wall paintings.

Small but powerful, honestly one of the nicest I've seen. Full of colors and gold. Free concerts regularly

Easy to find. Beautiful and serene inside. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. I would recommend checking the hours of operation before going.

Beautiful place with some interesting art work. No admission, but be aware that it is a working church and being "a tourist" is both rude and frowned up during Mass so be aware of their schedule. Friendly people working there had no problem with me taking pictures. I was in-and-out in under 30 minutes.

When I come to Europe I greatly visiting the historic churches. Many are open during the day to see, even if you do not attend mass. I am Roman Catholic, but many of the church’s welcome all visitors.

Very nice, but nothing extraordinary. Stained glasses on top of altar attracted my eye: they are of very high quality (not up to their French equivalents, but still...).

Beautiful church very close to the main station in the city center. People are so busy and running around that do not notice this catholic gem right in the Heart of Amsterdam. It’s a nice place for meditation and a break from the pace from the streets. There’s a choir playing every Saturday afternoon. It’s worth a check. Also there’s a big pipe organ.

The holy place that hosted me so that I wouldn't get wet on a day when rain and sun chase each other.

While probably not the right tourist spot, this building is a beautiful landmark of the city. And even though you may not wanna go inside, just stop buy and spare a glance at this marvel of Neo-Baroque and Neo-Gothic architecture.
