Three stars. Not because it is a terrible place, but because it simply lacks maintenance but has enormous potential. E.g. the toilet at the children's play corner is out of use and you can smell it. For a visit without kids, 4 stars. + Staff is friendly and cheerful + Sufficient choice despite the small menu + Fast service + Affordable + Beautiful attractive heated outdoor terrace Food: + Crispy fries + Gnocchi tasted good - Portion of gnocchi was too small. Taking a starter is a must. - Without the bacon (I'm allergic) the burger lacked spice - Not all sweet potato fries were done For a visit with kids, 2 stars: + Patient and cheerful staff + Play area with lots of potential + Coloring page, colors and competition linked to it. - Knives and hot drinks are used i.d. placed near the children. Food: + Delicious croquette for the little ones + Crispy fries - Fries were very salty - Minimal choice of vegetables for kids. Something simple like carrot, cucumber or steamed broccoli will suffice. A salad with onion looks nice, but a child will not eat it very quickly. Further: We came especially for the children's play area. This is a separate room, which limits noise pollution somewhat, but there are no windows or ventilation, so the oxygen level is relatively low in this room. There are also two(!) flat screens, but they are so big. If these are on at the same time, the kids are almost blinded. There is little space for the kids to sit. There are plenty of toys, but more than half are broken. Drawing is allowed on 2 walls, but there are no crayons or cleaning/wiping sponges. The wall where it was not allowed was drawn with a marker and then the wallpaper was torn apart. This could have been prevented by, for example, placing bookshelves. The space was laid out in such an uninspired way that it was a bit of a sad affair. Everything is just pushed against the wall. There is no clear layout, so that everything can be neatly tidied up (by the children themselves!), everything is just everywhere. Of course, the responsibility still lies with the parents of the children, but a little guidance/clear division never hurts. Especially when it has as much potential as this beautiful space. These are things that can easily be remedied. Hopefully 'De Kleine Valk' will spend some hours on this.

We had a quick light lunch here and really enjoyed. Perfect summer weather when we visited so we sat outside creating a lovely atmosphere. Service was fast and the staff smiling and helpful. Highly recommended visiting especially in summer.

Service was good, but the food was terrible. We ordered tuna sashimi, instead we got tuna tataki. It is not a problem, since it could be a nice dish, but you could taste that it was frozen and not fresh. Wouldn't recommend eating here.

It’s my first time in The Netherlands and a friend of mine brought me to The Balk Hotel Heerlen, and let me say that: this Hotel and Restaurant is off the hook, looks expensive but is not is pretty affordable. They have a pool, with a jacuzzi, a gym and the Restaurant is Beautiful. I had the 3 fish meal, and it was really good. Service was good as well.

Great place for Latin music and dance. The copacabana event organised here is particularly good - nice ambience and dj.

Luxurious appearance, great service

Honestly better than I originally thought it would be. Priced rather okay ish, some things were rather expensive. The drinks menu didn't have pricing so it was just guess work really and the men's toilet the sink was broken....

Very nice interior with good food for a decent price at a very nice location. We celebrated our son's birthday there, they have a separate room for kids to play, with toys, houses and attractions. The staff were very friendly and the service was very good, very nice experience in total!

Good place with a rather wild decor

The food and service was terrible. I ordered duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce and got them with a mustard-type sauce, yellow and creamy. When I said something about this they insisted it was hoisin. I sent it back but they charged for it anyway. One of the waiters, the head waiter in fact, was incredibly rude and obviously annoyed to have to serve us. He practically threw the plates on the table and walked off irritated multiple times when asked a question, as if he was in a hurry (but the place was practically empty). All in all not a place I would recommend.

Poor service, overpriced, and low quality food. Very rude staff. Waiter "threw" food on our table even on a day which was relatively quite and there were not so many people.

Beautiful place, brilliant service, i would visit again, loved it

I don't know if you can call it a disaster, but three waiters approached me for 2 Heinekens and two pieces of cake We haven't had the cake yet and the Heineken arrived 45 minutes later. Fully well attended but everyone around us even got their order after us except for two couples who also got up and left because they weren't being served...

Very bad service. When we asked for the third round of drinks the waiter got mad because “it’s not my job to come back to your table for orders” (but in the meantime they refused to let us order at the bar because they want table service). Very rude, we had to wait for a long time, we could not split the bill and the atmosphere was not pleasant. Will not come back.
