A piece of ‘the south’ in Amsterdam. Americans can do one thing like no other: barbecue. This is the first place in Amsterdam, or rather the Netherlands, that really understands the barbeque as it is intended, with all the taste buds that entails. Pieces of meat that melt on your tongue, fresh coleslaw, pickled sour vegetables and creamy beans. In addition, a wide range of beers. Recommended for anyone who likes a good piece of meat and a welcoming atmosphere!!

I lived in Texas 5 years and ate at all the great bbq joints in Houston and Austin. I didn’t expect to find brisket done right anywhere in Europe let alone Amsterdam, but they have it here at Pendergast. Pork ribs were also great. It’s a bit more expensive than I am used to, but worth it now and again for sure.

Pretty good American bbq restaurant for Dutch standards. We took 2x times the share platter so we could try all the dishes. The ribs are the star of the night, tender, fall right of the bone with natural flavors. Pulled pork and cheeks were nice. Turkey and the brisket a bit less. For sides the smokey beans is a must try. Total cost between 30-40 euro per person including drinks and 3 desserts is quite good.

I kept seeing reviews from Texans about the bbq here. Being from Texas myself, I was excited but skeptical to try the brisket. It was legit. Brisket and ribs are what to order, I'll definitely be back to try the turkey. I loved the potato salad (not mayo based) and the coleslaw. The star of sides were the meaty beans. And I'll be dreaming of the chocolate pecan pie until I go again. Definitely make reservations as it is a cozy spot and fills up fast. I will be a repeat customer for sure.

Underwhelming if I’m honest. Such a shame because I’ve been really looking forward to going here. Firstly we were told we could not have more than 2 sets of ribs per table. Then when the food came, the plates were so small I wondered how on earth I was going to eat without getting food everywhere. It also felt like they’d only done it to get away with giving tiny portions. The ribs I had were really tender, but lacked some flavour and the salad was just a pile of leaves with a couple of chickpeas on top. I was really disappointed. Aside from the food the service was good - friendly and fast.

A good place for an American BBQ meal. We ordered a sharing option that came with beef cheek, beef rib, pork rib plus sides of potato mash, Mac n cheese and salad. The meats were perfectly cooked and fall of the bone. The flavours were nice but would have loved for it to be a bit smokier for our liking, but that's personal preference. Of the the meats, I like the tenderness and flavor of the beef rib the most. The homemade BBQ sauce was delightful and I was also really impressed with the mash. The downside for us was the fact it took an hour from ordering to the food reaching our table. It wasn't super busy and given we were second to order we would have expected to be served before the first table received and finished both their main and desserts. We only found out after we enquired about the delay that it was due to delivery orders that our meal was delayed. This we can understand to an extent, however it would have been nice to just be told of this delay to manage our expectations. Aside from this, staff and service was good and friendly. All in all, if I'm wanting American BBQ, I would return and recommend, but really suggest the Pendergast team to manage patrons' expectations if there are longer than expected delays on the food reaching the table. Better yet, throw in a complimentary side or so to keep them happy and away from hangry.

The ribs and the meaty barbecued beans are the best things I ate. We also had the brisket and pork cheeks but not extra special. Cole slaw was really fresh and crisp. The pie was on the pricier side but it was a good pie. Service was ok, but they don’t have airco so keep in mind in the summer. It’s not cheap but it was good southern food (which you cannot easily get in Amsterdam)

We got spare ribs and brisket, both were deliciioouuuuusss! we loved both! meaty barbecued beans as side dish was great.. and dessert: ny cheesecake. highly recommended place! but just one negative thing: the place is extremely noisy!

Very solid restaurant overall, especially recommended for meat lovers (but not only). We tried brisket and turkey as mains. Brisket was definitely more flavorful than turkey. I felt like the turkey was just okay- not super great but also not too bad, lacking salt for me. What I really really liked were burned brisket ends, garlic mashed potatoes (buttery soft and packed with garlic flavor), meaty bbq beans and pecan pie! For people who aren’t huge on meat I would recommend skipping the “main” dishes and ordering large sides and dessert. We were there on a Sunday night- not a single empty table, and the space is rather small w tables close to each other, so prepare to raise your voice if you really want to have a conversation.

The food here is absolutely DELIGHTFUL. We were a little skeptic at first but we were absolutely amazed with some of the best brisket we have ever had. Very cozy, the food is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend the meaty beans side dish!

Might be the best brisket in Amsterdam, although some parts too salty, which is understandable cuz the uneven salt seasoning. We arrived there slightly early in the evening, it feels so nice to smell the thicker and thicker smokey meat flavor in the restaurant. And the music and guys in the bar also pretty friendly. Again, brisket and ribs, can’t miss it👌

I’d return in a heartbeat. The food, service and ambience were wonderful. Those burnt ends were WOW!! The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and glided through the room.

After many years I returned to Pendergast and it was an amazing dinner, once again. The Brisket was fantastic, and the pork cheeks were very good too. I am already looking forward to visiting the restaurant again. Nice gem in the West.

We ordered the shared meat dishes for 2-3 people to share: brisket, pork and salmon with side of potato salad, bbq beans and Mac and cheese. When it arrived we thought we would just order the same thing again because it didn’t look like it would be enough for 4 of us. The taste and textures of were beautiful. The meat was the star of the show but honestly the Mac and cheese was… really elevated mac and cheese. The red wine pairing was also delicious. When we finished the food we realised there was no way we could eat more. We had savoured each dish and were all surprisingly full. Spent like €25 each. Amazing. Will definitely return and probably order the same thing between me and my partner. It was a hot day so maybe that’s why our appetites weren’t as big.

A MUST in Amsterdam if you are a meat lover. The fried turkey for starter and the ribs as main were our highlights! Staff was very friendly! Great dinner experience!

The food was amazing, rich in flovour, super tender, the brisket was out of this world, definetly I'm coming back. Take into account that you cannot order all the brisket you want, there's a limitation. Small place, it's better to book in advance. When you booked you have to paid for the reservarion, about 20 euros but then it's deducted from the bill

Best bbq place in Amsterdam. Ribs are to die for. Friendly staff. Great beer selection. Come and come again. —— and do also order the fried olives.

The best BBQ meat i had anywhere in the Europe. Brisket was perfect, juicy, smoke ring, good seasoning, tender. Absolutely delicious. Corn bread was decent, but small. Could double or triple the cornbread. BBQ Beans was a little strange. White beans and kidney beans, pretty sure it had cumin in it. Tasted like Chili Con Carne. Although a good Chili Con Carne but not what i expected from BBQ beans. BBQ sauce also a little weird, tasted more like a sweet salsa, also with what i think was cumin. Not a fan. Service was nice and friendly and attentive. Cozy little place. Not enough to lose a star over because the meat was so good. Overall still a 5/5.

A ball bustin’ good bbq place! Perhaps even the best in all of the Netherlands. Restaurant itself is small but cozy and has a modern yet traditional interior. Service was quick and attentive friendly waiter and a chill vibe. The food is heavenly we had their bbq spread to share with the brisket, pulled pork and turkey thigh. All of it was mouthwatering and perfectly seasoned! The choice of side dishes were great as well. Garlic mashed potatoes were the highlight and a must order! Definitely would come back again! Chocolate pecan pie is a must order as well 😉

Heavenly taste, first time having brisket and not the last one. The Place is unique, deco super simple, but cozy, the staff is super friendly. now I understand why needed to book almost a week in advance. 💛💛

Some of the best bbq dishes in Europe. It feels like being in Texas... amazing brisket, excellent pulled pork and top pork ribs. Service is outstanding.

The meat was delicious, especially the pork ribs. I am absolutely in love with the mac’n’cheese and probably had the best cheesecake of my life ! The staff could have been a bit more friendly and would be nice to have more cocktail options. Definitely a good experience but make sure you book a table in advance

Excellent pulled pork and ribs. The pulled pork has a strong bbq flavor. The brisket could be a bit more salty. Fantastic Mac n cheese. Tasty Bourbon Ginger beer cocktail.

Great food, great beer selection, a must visit if you like authentic BBQ food. We started with the deep fried brisket burnt ends, think "bitterballen" but made of brisket, really tasty! We had the brisket and ribs, with some sides. You really should try the Mac & Cheese and meaty beans if you go. Nice small place, a real neighborhood restaurant vibe.

High quality and plenty quantity authentic comfort food in a cozy setting. The wine, cocktails also were a hit. The host is a very attentive and amiable person who will make you feel right at home. Definitely making a return visit as soon as possible highly recommended +++++

Excellent vibe and food. The service is excellent and the personal is super friendly. I had the brisket and it was soft, tender and super tasty. Also, they have Walhalla beer, extra point for that. Recommended!

I’ve eaten here before and it was amazing but I also just had it delivered and it was absolutely perfect. Really pleased with everything and packaged correctly and the food is so delicious.

Decent food, good service. Don't expect any steaks and such because everything is smoked beforehand! The side dishes were really good. We had the brisket and pork cheeks which are probably the most popular dishes.

I went into this place with high expectations, considering the great reviews. Safe to say, my experience went beyond everything imaginable! The food was fantastic to say the least. I ordered the ribs and they were smoked to perfection! The tenderness and juiciness of the meat… heavenly. It fell right of the bone. The natural flavour comes right through. I also ordered many sides. The salad was so fresh, the mashed potatoes had such a rich taste with a nice waxy consistency. Just amazing. The Mac n cheese was too light for my liking. Could be cheesier but my companions enjoyed it. The service was awesome, super friendly and warm. The interior of the restaurant give of chic bistro vibes, I like it a lot. And the atmosphere was nice and cozy. I feel like this has become my go to whenever I return to Amsterdam!

👍👍 The perfect place to enjoy high-quality seafood at a reasonable price. Was surprised to see this large restaurant buzzing at 5pm (both inside and outside!) but after seeing the fresh fish on display and trying the sashimi which just melts in the mouth I understood why. The staff were also very well-...
