This hotel works hard on getting their negative reviews removed from Google, so be careful how you evaluate these reviews. I arrived at this hotel after a long travel with my family from Chicago. Needless to say we were exhausted. When we entered the hotel, we were two hours early and couldn’t Check in yet. We Checked our luggage in thinking we would go for a walk around first, but after the travel we decided to rest in the lobby for a few hours first, check in, then go out. This male employee took our two identical yellow backpacks and gave us two tickets (standard hotel Check in procedure). I walked to the bar to get a coke and this employee made a rude comment about my appearance, coupled with a rude gesture. I won’t repeat what he said here because they’ll try to use that to get my review removed from Google. So we waited out the two hours and literally sat in the lobby, no more than 6 feet away from him. Now somewhere between the jet lag, no sleep for something like 36 hours, or my three year old being a handful, I misplaced the tickets he gave me and couldn’t find them when it was time to check in. But because it was literally 2 hours ago and we were sitting right there, he literally said to me: “sorry, if you can’t find the tickets you’re not getting them back”. I first thought maybe this was a sense of humor that I’m just not familiar with, but he actually turned around and walked away. I came back to him, pleaded and tried to explain that we have been sitting next to him the whole time. He was rude, dismissive and walked away from me mid-sentence again and began speaking to other patrons. Didn’t try to problem-solve, or ask me to identify the luggage in some way, nothing. They’ll probably reply some nonsense about how it’s for customers luggage safety Etc etc. I assure you, this wasn’t the issue. I had JUST given them to him, and they weren’t busy at all. Luckily we found the tickets and I was able to get the bags from one of the girls who could tell we were frazzled. I almost called the police. It would have gotten really ugly. Never been treated like this at a hotel before. Disgusting behavior. Stay away from this hotel. The food was really average for a Citizen M as well. We’ve stayed at a bunch of them before and this one was hands down the worst.

We had a fabulous stay. The staff could not have been nicer or more attentive. We loved having the bar/dining area in the main lobby as well as lots of areas to relax and enjoy. The location near the Amstel river is beautiful! We would happily stay here again.

The restaurant here is open 24 hours. This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, aside from my dog getting auditioned for a Steven Spielberg film (we lost the part to a better dog, but it was so much fun anyway). When I first walked in the door at 4:30am I couldn’t believe my eyes, or my tummy’s eyes. The drinks are so yummy, and the floors are all super clean, so you can feel free to waltz around in your socks. I’m guilty of that because, when in Amsterdam… The next time I come here I’m bringing my friend Rhonda, because she loves the nightlife and she also speaks a little bit of Dutch, on account of her father being FROM Amsterdam. Now that’s a fun time. I can’t wait to come back to this awesome hotel. You haven’t see the last of me, and I’m getting better at being a better person every day. Photo: Sara Henry

Best boutique hotel around. Close enough to everything for your round abouts town but “far enough” to have a calm night and restful time. This modern establishment is well equipped, fantastic “emperor” size bed with fluffy pillows and warm comforter. The one touch control of your room from the iPad or your own phone is practical and efficient. The staff is very welcoming, friendly and resourceful. Excellent value for money to keep on your Amsterdam’s list of favorite place to sleep in.

Great hotel right next to subway stop. Super nice and friendly staff. Offers luggage storage and bicycle rent. Modern and clean rooms. Cozy bar area and good pizza. Will definitely come back!

Very modern hotel, everything can be controlled from the ipad. Smooth electronic check-in, doesn't hesitate to check-in as soon as possible to have the choice of room. The room was not huge but spacious enough with plenty of storage even for a huge suitcase. Cannot hear much noise from the room, good isolation. Good rain shower but a tiny bit more of water pressure would be welcome. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Liked the location of the hotel, walkable distance from the distance. Plenty of nice restaurants 10/15 min walk from the hotels. There is also an awesome bakery next to the hotel. Hotel is bar is open 24/7 and cocktails were very good.

Compact but has everything you could need and a large bed. Conveniently located next to a bakery and other food options, as well as the metro station a few steps away. Staff was welcoming and helpful. Even have bikes and umbrellas available for guests. No negatives to note. Would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic service and quality from the hotel and staff. Special thanks to the staff who assisted our group with a great number of things, from getting restaurant reservations to transportation, to help us see all the best sights in the city, and making us want to come back to explore more of the beautiful Netherlands! Breakfast was a bounty of delicious items and catered to vegan or gluten free as well. The staff made every effort to make our stay the most enjoyable it could be.

Very good hotel. Great location, nice staff. Matches its price. And thank you for having books in the room, I love to read)

Fantastic location, awesome rooms you can control by your iPad… but the best thing about this hotel are the staff. I was blown away by every single staff member we encountered. Friendly, polite, attentive, knowledgable… all of them willing to go the extra mile to make our experience great. Other hotels/hospitality services should take note from this hotel. The service was on par with what you expect from a luxury cruise line!

It was a lovely experience. The tram station is less than 5 minutes by walk. The staff is sweet. They have free hot drinks all day long if you have breakfast with the hotel. But the breakfast is not great because of very limited options. Breakfast is an additional 16.50 for each person if not included in the reservation. You can find better options out of the hotel. Rooms are small but are well designed with ultra modern aesthetics.

Very smartly designed rooms very amazing to see the optimization around sleep (small sqm rooms but the price is also reasonable) but also very elegant and nice taste of decor, really the fluffiest pillows, tablet controlled fun lighting features in the room, fun marketing stuff all-round, easy going laid back lobby environment and staff, really pleasant to see the smartness but yet still an artistic hotel… only the stuff you need. I am a fan, glad that found this hotel by chance on booking com. Also great walking distance to all touristy stuff but at a nice area and on a quiet avenue. P.S. I took pictures of the pillow material compositions and brand 😁

We’ve found everything we’ve been looking for from a hotel for a short Amsterdam trip. Clean premises, good location, welcoming personnel, comfy bed, nice shower. If you’re looking for a spacious room however, it might disappoint you because of the small room size but the bed and the windows are huge. Ideal for a 3-4 nights’ trip. Price is a bit high (685 euros for 3 nights) but it is what it is in Amsterdam unfortunately.

The citizenM Amstel Amsterdam hotel is an excellent hotel. I would highly recommend it to everyone. We thought everything was fantastic - the greeting at reception, the style & decor, the room and the drinks. Nothing was too much trouble for the team. The location is excellent too. We will definitely return one day.

Liked it super much, the rooms are controlled via a tablet. It's a gimmick, but a cool one. For example we woke up with room alarm, which was literally the lights starting to turn and the TV starting to play woods sounds. Very cool. What else can I say, the people are smiling, the lobby is fine, there is area for working the coffee is expensive be sure to order a breakfast with your room, then you could have coffee refills and save some €.

If you've stayed at a CitizenM hotel, you know that the room is smartly designed, but very minimal in size and amenities. That should be expected. But past that, it's simple, clean, beds are comfy (and king sized!). However, this was the best one I've stayed at. The location was amazing. Right next to two cute cafes for coffee and a pastry (although the coffee at the hotel was top notch). Walking distance from pretty much everything you want to see. Main tram line right outside the door and steps away from the underground line. But where this place really shines is their service. Service has been consistently good at all CitizenM, but this was beyond. We stayed (for convenience) at a Hilton that cost us twice the price so we could get to the airport quicker and it paled in comparison. The staff a this location was incredible. So helpful. So friendly. Will 100% be back!

Small rooms, big beds, great lobby/bar and service. We liked the complimentary bottles of water/sparkling from the bar. Easy to use the complimentary bikes as well.

Very clean and modern hotel. The big windows and big comfy beds are the highlight. Me and my partner really enjoyed our stay here and would come back. The only problem was the heating in the room was very difficult to control. Had the heating on full but the room was still freezing.

A great hotel - good value, convenient location and a comfy bed. Loads of cool little touches in the room and lobby, and the staff were all lovely. In particular Abraham was amazing and totally embodied the brand - fun, full of energy and couldn’t have been more helpful. I’d certainly stay here again and will keep an eye out for Citizen M in other cities.

A modern and conscientious style hotel had lots of amazing features. Not the least of which is fantastic service and great coffee. Next door is a yummy bakery. My one complaint, and it's minor yet legit: needs an outlet and a small shelf or table on BOTH sides of the bed. Yes, I know I have a phone addiction, but I'm on vacation and need to feed said addiction.

Another great example of the formula. This hotel may lack the height/rooftop/views of some of their hotels, but it seems to be ever so slightly more spacious. The room layout is tweaked to be more square that other examples and this makes the bathroom more Spacious and private. Views - there aren’t any. Windows on the lower floors are bigger and so brighter. Stay 1st or 2nd floor for more light! Cafe and lounge are cosy and as ever the staff are wonderful. Location is just outside the canal rings but the tram stop outside is really useful - 10ms to the Rijksmuseum for instance or a 25 minute stroll to the centre.

Safe, quiet location, a few stops from central station by metro and also served by multiple tram lines. Rooms are small but well designed. Friendly and helpful staff.

I really can’t add much to the other five star reviews. I will add how wonder the staff and environment is. After traveling 30 hours to get here from Colorado my wife and I were completely exhausted. When we walked through the front door a friendly young lady (can’t remember name) greeted us and assisted with the simple self check in. I’m sure she could see how tired we were. We were in our quiet room within 5 minutes of arriving. Aside from the time change, I don’t sleep much so it’s important for me to have a place to hang out while my wife sleeps. When I came down to the lobby at 4:30am I was greeted by two very friendly, smiling staff. That was a great comfort as I was still a little disoriented from travel. Fay made me an amazing latte and Jules helped me with a couple minor requests. The lobby area is amazing and very inviting to sit and read. As a bonus, the breakfast spread was incredibly delicious.

Absolutely loved everything about this hotel, perfect for young adults and couples. Controlling the entire room via the tablet was intuitive and easy, as well as check-in/out and ordering meals. The staff was very laid-back and friendly, which made our stay even better. Sure the rooms are a little small, but I felt like the space is being used as efficiently as possible and it was just right for me!

Simply put: The staff in this place is great. The facilities are nice, the concept is fun. In these Covid times, there is a bunch of support, where to get a test, face mask available, etc. Keep in mind Amsterdam is currently kind of " relaxing" the meassures, so no too many face mask inside the hotel nor the streets or other places.

The hotel is greatly located, and rooms are a bit small but they have a world-class king size bed and walk in shower. Pricey but not more than everything else in Amsterdam

Great boutique hotel in the center of Amsterdam! They have an easy self-service check-in/check-out system. The rooms are perfectly sized. We adored the futuristic interior. My partner was obsessed with the technology 😊I loved the pink shower cabin😊 They also have a nice bar/eating area in the lobby. Staff is extremely nice and helpful. Great mojito and other cocktails 🍹 We definitely will come back! Thanks guys.

Modern, clean, well located, fun, cheerful. We had a great time at this hotel. They have left us bicycles and advised us many things to do and see. Very friendly and helpful staff, special thanks to Michelle. We didn’t taste the food, but the breakfast seems to be quite expensive. The hotel is highly recommended!

Super modern rooms, perfect for a solo or couple travelers. The staff is really nice, fun and helpful ! They speak many languages so chances are someone there will speak what you need. They also offer free bicycles so you visit the city like a local :) It’s 20 minutes walk from the red light district if you’re interested, but also plenty of coffee shops and restaurants around. Nice coffee shop right next door to it as well. Anytime I’m back in the Dam, that’s where I’m staying no doubt.

Absolutely wonderful. Great location, fantastic amenities, the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The room are compact but magnificent, the breakfast was splendid and really varied. Top hotel, if I could I'd stay at least in every city I visit.

The room was great, the bed awesome, it felt like our personal playground the way it was setup, big kudos for the technology used to control everything in the room, innate chromecast support was a blessing as well. One thing that I would suggest is to make it possible to change the colour of the lights in the actual room as well as opposed to only being able to change the bathroom light. Nb. Review is based on one night without breakfast. Also the staff was friendly and the room was clean

We had a four night stay at the CitizenM by the Amstel river which was outstanding. Our room was relatively small but very well organized. Their use of technology is just right (it makes things simpler and provides options to be self sufficient). The lounge downstairs is really cool and the bar is lively without being overwhelming. The decor is great and you feel like you are staying somewhere where someone has paid attention to detail. We ate in the lounge a couple of times, they had a great mix of snacks and full menu. The location was great too - you could get to most places we were looking for in 15-30 minutes walking which was perfect. The most exceptional aspect was the staff. They were very friendly, very helpful and always cheerful. We will return. P.S. shout out to the Bakhus next door for great coffee and wonderful baked goods.

Loved this hotel. Modern and awesome service. Location is amazing and metro is 10 steps away. People were amazing and specific shout out to Gabriella, Dianna and Estella (I hope I got those spellings correct). I felt so at home and made some great connections. Looking forward to this brand expanding and will definitely stay in citizenM hotels when I travel. Looking forward to it actually. They made this trip so memorable. Thank you!!!

Wonderful stay! Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Room was very clean and modern with some cool amenities. Bed was firm and supportive. Location is great you are right in front of a tram station and an underground metro station. Hotel has plenty of common areas to enjoy and a bar. For the price this place is an amazing value. Would stay again.

The staff were nice enough. The food wasn’t great, the selection at breakfast was small & what was offered wasn’t very nice. The room was nice, the bed comfortable. Powerful shower & overall clean. Weird teddy in the room & the sink wasn’t in the bathroom which seemed odd to me. It had UK plug along with EU however no USB sockets which seemed off for a fairly new / modern hotel. It was very expensive for what it is & I wouldn’t stay again at that price. Nice area downstairs & small outside area to smoke too.

Had an amazing week here! The only negative I can think of is that there were several times the food I wanted wasn't available. The staff feel genuine and are super friendly, they really went above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Will definitely check out CitizenM next time I am visiting Amsterdam.
