Located
at
the
top
end
of
Warmoestraat,
just
a
few
steps
from
Chinatown's
Zeedijk,
Chinese
Surinamese
restaurant
Kam
Yin
opened
its
doors
in
1980.
The
first
arrival
of
Chinese
immigrants
to
Suriname,
a
former
Dutch
colony,
dates
back
to
1853.
Today,
they
form
the
country's
largest
ethnic
community
and
account
for
around
two
percent
of
the
population.
The
fusion
of
Chinese
and
Surinamese
cuisine
is
often
referred
to
as
Surinees
and
has
become
very
popular
in
the
Netherlands.
The
restaurant's
most
popular
dish
is
Moksi
Meti,
mixed
meat
served
with
rice,
roti
or
noodles,
accompanied
by
hot
sauces
made
from
Madam
Jeanette
peppers.
Other
favourites
include
Peking
Duck,
Tjauw
Min,
Tjap
Tjoy,
Roti
and
Szechuan
dishes.
There
are
also
a
number
of
Indonesian
inspired
dishes
such
as
Saoto
Soup,
Satay,
GadoGado
and
Babi
Panggang.
The
spacious
restaurant
has
its
own
en-suite
takeaway
which
also
offers
a
wide
selection
of
Surinamese
sandwiches
and
snacks
such
as
salted
cod,
telo,
pom,
bojo
and
baka
bana.
Although
not
offering
high-end
cuisine,
Kam
Yin's
prices
are
extremely
reasonable
with
generous
size
portions,
making
it
one
of
the
most
popular
choices
for
delivery
services
such
as
Thuisbezordt
and
Uber
Eats.
