I stayed at the Alfred Hotel for one night. Unfortunately, the air conditioning wasn't working, and we had to endure the chilly weather of winter. The facilities were designed for a single occupant, making it a bit cramped for two people, especially with the arrangement of towels. The shower tap was a bit difficult to handle, and the toilet flush wasn't working properly. Despite these issues, the room was clean. However, it's clear that the hotel could benefit from some maintenance due to its age and wear. On a positive note, the breakfast was quite enjoyable, and we appreciated that aspect of our stay. Location is almost perfect! All in all we enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is beautiful, quiet, with pleasant and accommodating staff. The rooms were comfortable and the team responsive via email ahead of our travels as we coordinated our arrival and stay. They had gluten free breakfast options, which was a pleasant accommodation. It is easily accessible from the tram and bus stop, and has many pleasant routes for a bike ride or walk about. Our stay there was quite pleasant. :)

Disgusting room, persistent smell - but good location. I booked a room because the pictures were promising. Once I arrived, I felt ripped off. There was this persistent cigarette smoke smell that was hard to ignore. The bed sheet had a couple of nasty stains. So I lifted the mattress only to find even more stains on the very old mattress. I asked for another room, but the receptionist just came and changed the bed sheet for me. He went into the bathroom with his street shoes and fiddled with the ventilation, but that apparently couldn't help with the smell. I stayed there due to lack of alternatives, but would never go back there nor recommend it to someone. The location was the only positive thing. It was located on a street with direct airport bus connection plus tram and bus stops nearby. Still couldn't make up for the horrible experience.

We returned after a five year break and we were very happy with our stay. The room was clean, spacious and the bed very comfortable. The towels were removed and not replaced so we had to ask for more but everything else was good. It’s close to a number of places to eat, walkable to the museums and bus 397 stops close by for and from the airport. We’ll book again.

Beautiful 3 stars hotel placed in a very good position of the city and offers very comfortable rooms. The only ""bad"" experience was that when we reserved the room some months before our trip, we requested one of the rooms with the biggest window but this was not given to us upon our arrival. However the staff promptly and nicely managed this situation by offering another room (subsequent days) and two bikes for free for one day. A special thanks goes to Iryna (reception), a really nice person :)

We were welcomed by the lovely Benjamin who was very informative, made us feel welcome from the start and was very friendly. The location of the hotel is perfect with just a lovely 20 minute walk to the main area of Amsterdam. We had a brilliant view from our room and were undisturbed by any noises. The room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed including a hairdryer. We will definitely stay here again when we next visit Amsterdam and definitely recommend The Alfred Hotel.

We enjoyed our stay here a lot… the staff is really nice and friendly. Aryna was very welcoming and kind. She took her time to answer all of our question and made us feel home. The beds are comfy and the showers are great. The room are kinda small though but it was fine to still get a good sleep and a chill morning. Would recommend to stay there!

Pretty decent hotel. The double room we chose was clean and spacious with amenities provided. There are a lot of cafes & restaurants nearby to have a bite to eat and tram stations that take you all the way to the city centre. The staff were friendly & were always willing to help whether it’s to travel to a place, recommending tours to take etc. The area is pretty quiet at night, away from the hustle & bustle of the city centre. Overall great place to stay 👍

The location is great. The rooms are not. I have a tiny bathroom with water from the shower that goes everywhere. The walls and carpets are in poor condition. I have holes in my towels, and there are blood stains on the sheets, as well as something crusty on the carpet near the bathroom. The safe in my room doesn't work, and they keep putting me off about fixing it. BBC was once provided on the cable (it comes up like it was programmed) but now there is nothing. I am on a 1st floor and don't feel incredibly secure. The hallways is noisy, lots of banging doors, etc. You have to wait a long time to take the elevator, and the steps aren't a great option. Like another poster wrote, it feels like a hostel, not a hotel for adults. It might have been nice 15 years ago, but needs some real attention.

It’s actually a pretty good hotel. The standard double room was of a good size, plenty of space for the luggage. It’s tidy. The staff is kind and helpful. But the best is the location - easy access from the airport and to the city center, which is also walking distance. The neighborhood is excellent - charming, quiet, with great cafes, restaurants and shops. It’s a hotel where actually you don’t mind coming back in the evening after an exhausting city trip!

Unfortunately it was a horrible experience. The room was dirty and even after asking twice for cleaning, they just said it was cleaned, eventough they didn´t clean it. There was still dirt from the previous occupant. Then the lady booked me breakfast and a trip at the same time, eventough she relaized that I couldn´t take breakfast because the trip started so early, she refused to cancel the breakfast. Horrible service, unfriendly and simply lying personal. Emails afterwards were ignored, no customer service. These impressions will always cloud my trip.

Staff are lovely, very clean rooms of a good standard. Shower was good and beds are comfortable. Didn't have the breakfast as it seemed very pricey. They have room service pizza, which is cool.

We had to book to stay somewhere as our original accommodation was terrible. We booked this very last minute over Christmas and got a fantastic price, the people working here were very friendly, accomodating and made us feel very welcome. The room was lovely and had everything you would expect. The hotel is close enough to the centre, being only 10 minutes on the tram. Would 100% recommend.

Worst Hotel Experience of my life!!! I had a room on the ground floor, which was right next to the vending machine and the reception. I did not get a minute of sleep in that room. There was constant noise from the corridor, 24/7 reception with loud groups of people, door and walls were paper thin. Neighbors had a rave going on. Lots of party tourists. You could even hear the coins being thrown into the vending machine. The room was smelly, the window didn’t open and the bathroom has a broken and scratchy door where you could see it has been leaking water out onto the carpet. The carpet was dirty with stains. People were loud at night and receptionists said nothing even after I had to come out of my room at night. The whole thing escalated when at 2AM the fire alarm went off in the house incredibly loud. There was no one at the reception to talk to or complain. When I went next morning for my complaint, they gave me a bigger room at 3rd floor which was less noisy but had dirty stained walls and carpets with bad smell and dead bugs in the corners. Worst thing was it was a business trip and I had to work with 0 hours of sleep. Sad, left me crying.

We had a clean spacious room with a big window, clean bathroom with rain shower, very comfortable bed and a coffee machine. It's like 5min to the next tram station, the museums are near and the area is really cute and quiet in the night. We enjoyed our stay!

This experience was a desaster. The room we had was in the basement without a window to open. When we entered the room was smelling like a cleaning closet. The shower is way to small for people 1m90+, the shower also didn't have a shower curtain which flooded the entire bathroom. The bathroom also didn't have a window and no ventilation system. Cannot recommend this hotel at all.

Had a room on the groundfloor and did not sleep a wink. Walls are very thin and you hear everything very loud. People coming in, talking, slamming doors, vending machine beeping. On top of that the room was constantly filled with strong smoke smell from the ventilation system. I guess it has the intake near the entrance where people are smoking. Do not recommend. Avoid this hotel if you value silence and being able to sleep.

Lovely staff, affordable prices, very well located close to main Amsterdam's museums. The only cons was the shower that sprinkling water all over the bathroom. Overall, a pleasant stay.

I really liked the room - it was quite big for its budget. What's cool is that the toilet and the shower are in two separate rooms which is especially convenient when you stay with family. My room was on the 1st floor and a very big window looked out into the street. The traffic gets light in the evening so it didn't affect my sleep. However, I lived right in front of the elevator and its opening and closing did affect the sleep... Even though people were incredibly nice and never talked in the corridors. The breakfast is cool and nourishing and the staff at the dining space is super friendly and nice. There is a big park nearby for running or walking. Leidseplein and a lot of shops, restaurants, cafes and other places of interest are in the walking distance.

Very disappointed overall by the quality of the rooms. Our room literally didn’t smell good, we kept the window opened. The wardrobe smelled really bad too. Thankfully the great breakfast service (the lady at the breakfast buffet was very good and kept her kitchen squeaky clean) made up for it as well as the location being close to all the best places. Should they renovate the rooms it would be a great place.

I was greeted by a polite helpful receptionist on arrival, and that level of service was constant throughout my 2 night stay. The room was clean, and spacious with coffee capsules good on espresso or large cup setting. The bed was large and comfortable (memory foam mattress). The walk-in shower and shower room is good. The buffet breakfast was good enough and ample. 10 tram stops away from Amsterdam Centraal Station (Tram/Line 2) Use your contactless debit card to pay your fare. I would stay there again and recommend it to friends and family.

Our stay here was excellent simply to the amazing hosting skills of the lovely Irena!! She was amazingly welcome nothing but helpful and good fun. Our room was our a good quality too fresh linens daily and towels too we were in the basement of the hotel and the only thing I could say wasn’t the greatest was the fact we had no window lol but obviously that’s expected with the basement

We were just expecting a good hotel and a good location, but it really well surprised us. The hotel is quite charming, with excellent rooms, a great bathroom with excellent showers and a nice service. The beds are super comfortable (the pillows could be better) and even the carpet in the room were super clean and very soft. The room (and the hotel) were silent and we'd a excelente night in family (couple and 4yo). Would definitely stay again there.

A fantastic hotel with clean, spacious rooms and bathrooms! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. In a good location, too, very close to the Vondelpark and not too far from the centre of Amsterdam. Loved it !

VERY poor hotel (also expensive but the whole city is). Rooms were really small and dirty, the only positive thing was the vicinity at the tram line n.2. The ladies at the reception were absolutely clueless regarding international payments, providing wrong suggestions and leaving the customers to deal with the issues they face when following their own words. The matter in object was raised with the competent office, but at the end of the day their answer was on the line of "despite what we suggested, you could have known that yourself and it's your problem", despite the problem was caused by their staff. Absolutely unprofessional.

It is a lovely place, calm neighbourhood, even though the city centre is so close: 20 min on foot. There is a huge park near the hotel, which is full of life even in the evening. Hotel’s continental breakfast was so delicious - recommending to have. Although unfortunately we had an issue, they handled very well afterwards! Thank you!

Personally, I loved it! Rooms were slightly dated, however for the price I was paying, the room I was allocated was huge! The location was amazing, next to a tram stop, with trams to Amsterdam Centraal station. Also a short walk away from the Rijksmuseum. Check in was quick, and staff were friendly. The reception staff always make sure to say hello each time you enter/leave the hotel! The room came equipped with a capsule coffee machine, which was much appreciated. Also included was a large bed, two sets of windows (as it was a corner room), a huge wardrobe, glass table with lovely seats, as well as a stylish en-suite. I had seen previously that many reviews mentioned that cleanliness was an issue. I checked over the entire room when entering, and it was spotless. Even under the bed, there wasn't any fluff to be seen! There were also various lamps dotted around the room, which allowed you to change what lighting you wanted. I'd love to stay here again given the opportunity!

This was a such a nice hotel, with friendly staff and spacious, clean rooms. They were very accommodating and offered to hold our luggage since we arrived early for check-in. The walls seem very thin, since we were able to hear conversations in the neighboring room. The hotel is conveniently located near many of the main museums in Amsterdam. We would definitely recommend others stay here.

Quiet neighbourhood but good comunication with city center with a tram 5 minutes from hotel. Clean and nice, great customer service and friendly people at the reception. Highly recommend!

First impression was a disappointment. Unlike the photo's, it turns out to be a shabby fixer-upper. Someone threw some cheap vinyl floors and wallpaper over the lobby and hallways. Upon entering one of our two rooms, it doesn't have a lighting fixture on the ceiling. I don't even want to think about how old the carpet on the floor is... Or the beds... The curtains, the painting,... It's all old and crooked. I felt stupid for picking this hotel. On a positive note... It's pretty close to the museums. The shower ran wel, we did get a good night sleep nevertheless. And the rooms were quiet. Wouldn't recommend, but the weather was nice and we enjoied the city, so we'll just remember that.

The lady on the desk informed us on arrival that our room was small. She said if we come back later we could have a bigger room but we were tiered so we accepted the smaller room. My partner got stuck in the bathroom when the locked jammed on him, and the shower was dirty in the room, but it had interesting shelving.

The hotel looks much better on the pictures than in real life. Our room was really bad, no possibility to open window and get some fresh air, spider webs, and broken bed sheets. Super disappointed, don’t recommend and won’t come back. Location wise, it’s great though, very well connected to everything you might need in Amsterdam.

The Alfred is in a great location for getting around and was more than suitable for our needs. Boutique is another word for TINY dont forget. They are small. We were on the top floor and had a newly refurbished room. It was clean, quiet and well serviced. The only issue was a smell of drains when you flushed the toilet. We did complain but were told by the manager that she couldn't smell it. I'm quite sure she did. Anyway apart from that one issue that the staff didnt want to admit to, even though there are other comments stating this exact problem. I hope they can fix it as the hotel is spot on otherwise. I would return and give them another chance.

Great location, close by from the city center. Property in the room is a different story, found a bunch of hair in the bed, not very pleasant. The staff was nice though, our window would not close and it was taken care of when we were away.

3.5/4 stars! The hotel was great honestly! I work at a hotel myself so some of the reason that I review it at a 3.5 is due to some personal reason that I think could be done but don’t reallyyyyy matter. Like the toilet paper. At my hotel, we replace it if it is less than half way gone however we had a used toilet paper roll. The towels also weren’t decorative, just sitting there. Also not a problem tho. But overall… a great hotel. The front desk wasn’t very interactive with us but they were nice and speak multiple languages which is great and they have a completely contacts less check in/out service! If you need a clean place to stay in Amsterdam that just far away from the city where you can get some actually sleep but close enough where it’s just a few tram stops away, this is the place!

I stayed here for one night, and found it very pleasant. The room was clean and spacious, with a nice bathroom and shower. Good location, and was very well priced. The only issue was that it got cold in the night, and the heat didn’t seem to be working. The bed also wasn’t the comfiest; it was a double bed that was just 2 singles pushed together. But, for the price and location, I would stay again!
