This is a very nice hotel. Totaly differnt then every other hotel. It is a very special retro design hotel. The rooms the furniture all are nice. You have here a lot of working and event rooms and even a stage for music. At all perfect. Not only for holiday. Also to joy a nice time.

Great hotel with the most amazing staff ever! It so happened that we stayed there for more than a month, and the staff was so understanding, nice and helpful! They were always there for us and we really appreciate that. They made our stay truly amazing!

This is a remarkable hotel, if you want to stay in a creative hub and meet interesting people (staff & travellers) in a place that has a genuine community spirit in a convenient location this is the right hotel for you. I absolutely loved staying here, the rooms are well designed, clean and comfortable with large windows to let the light in. The cafe in the ground level has great coffee & lots of different types of spaces to sit. The restaurant on level 7 is another beautiful space, with wonderful views across Amsterdam. The restaurant food is excellent and it is a good idea to book on the weekend. The rooftop hot-tubs and sun lounges are charming and have expansive views. The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful. The hotel has bikes for rent and is very close to the subway. This is not a typical hotel. If you like boring and conservative places maybe don’t stay here, but if you want a vibrant community of travellers with lots of great spaces to rest and socialise, you will love this brilliant hotel. You can comfortably keep to yourself if you want quiet time to rest. Staying here made my visit to Amsterdam extra memorable. Thank you to all the wonderful staff for creating such a lovely environment.

We had such a lovely time in Amsterdam and Volkshotel was a great place to stay. Great location and a good value for the price. The food at Canvas was fantastic and the hot tub/sauna on the roof was such a nice way to end the day. Will absolutely stay here again the next time we are in Amsterdam.

Great staff, great location right beside a metro station. Best coffee we had in the city and they have a gorgeous night club upstairs with a casual and exclusive feel to it. I asked for a room with a view for me and herself. Well, they gave us a room with a cheeky wet room and while the view of the city was great I don't think I saw an awful lot of it. 10/10 would stay again.

An absolutely wonderful stay for 3x nights. We were in the glorious White room with sunset vistas and panoramic bathtub views to die for. Mrs (who has very discerning taste and expectations!) was very pleased. Our son and his girlfriend were in a lovely room too which they raved about. Front-desk hospitality was warm, welcoming and on-point with good local advice and very accommodating generosity, lending us some umbrellas for our outing while it poured. Breakfasts were super tasty, unrestricted and with a decent offering of choices ensuring we could head out each day content and well-stuffed. The hotel is well located on the main road into/out of the main city/tourist area - but within an easy 30 minute walk. Close located trams and metro lines offer quick access to everywhere for those not keen on stretching their legs. Our White room came with two complimentary bicycles which our son and his girlfriend used to travel more extensively around the city. Dinners were most enjoyable, with night-time skyline from the panoramic windows complimented with a super menu selection of traditional and modern dishes, all well prepared and tasty. The rooftop hot-tubs and sauna provided another exceptional viewing and relaxing experience not easily replicated at other venues (within this price range). Overall an excellent venue and base when visiting Amsterdam.

Really good experience. We got there and we were upgraded to one of their special rooms. We had a beautiful look at the city and the room was clean. The bed was comfortable and the room had a special design from an artist. Would definitely stay again. It is 1 minute away from Metro Station and has various options of restaurants to eat around. Rooftop has a bar, sauna, and hot tubs available for guest.

A really interesting hotel. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, and everything was great. It’s really close to the Metro which is definitely a benefit. It’s reception is a co-working space. There’s a rooftop bar called Canvas on the top floor which serves amazing cocktails and breakfast plus sweeping views of the city. In addition, there’s sauna and hot tub on the top floor. I spent majority of my time in the reception cafe which just had great vibes. Smooth check in and check out, no complaints!

Amazing hotel! Perfect location to walk or take the Metro to the city center. Room was super clean and really well designed. Staff were endlessly helpful, friendly and chatty. Love the fact they hand you a map along with very clear house rules and info on the city. Will definitely be back here next time we visit Amsterdam!!

The best hotel I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. Beautiful architecture, and it only gets better when you walk inside. High-quality accommodations and service. The staff was fantastic. They went above and beyond to make our stay more enjoyable. This hotel comes highly recommended by me.

We stayed at Volkshotel for second time for 6 nights. The hotel has a great location in a calm area not very touristic. Amstel river is just 2 blocks away, great area for walks. The hotel has great breakfast, and amazing cappuccino at the bar in the entrance. Tried the yoga class which was very nice! Room was comfortable, clean and with great shower.

While the showers were quite nice, the glass walls were not. In the night or early morning when one person was sleeping and the other needed to use the bathroom, turning on the light went right in my eyes in the bed. Very good interactions with Canvas staff and front desk. Very convenient to Metro.

The hotel is in a good location. Room was very cool and comfortable bed, good shower too. Super clean. The amenities amazing. There is so much to do in the hotel. The sauna and jacuzzi on the rooftop was my favorite. We stayed 4 nights and honestly didn’t want to leave :)

Wonderful hotel with very unique and well designed rooms. The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful as well. We also really loved that it felt very hip with a lot of interesting things to do on the property. The rooftop sauna was great, but the hot tubs weren’t hot enough and didn’t feel clean. Location is fantastic given you are literally 1 minute from the Wibautstraat station. Highly recommend!

One of the coolest hotels I’ve visited in that price range. Chill receptionists, amazing working area, even a hairdresser on Fridays for a fair price. The room was super cool and the rooftop wellness area is a nice plus. Amazing terrace to chill and drink something. Wanna come back again!

I stayed here while I attended a conference. I found exceptionally clean, comfortable, and quiet rooms. Staff was kind and very accommodating. Hotel was located centrally near restaurants and jogging trails, as well as the subway. Would absolutely recommend to friends or family.

A quirky hotel in an old newspaper building south of the centre, Volkshotel feels comfortable, welcoming and creative, without being uncomfortably pretentious. The rooms are light, airy and spacious, equipped with all the usual stuff, and there's a very nice restaurant on the top floor with space for open-air breakfasts and other meals. There's also a comfortable bar and work space on the ground floor and a club in the basement, but best of all are the hot tubs and sauna on the roof, from which you can watch the city around you almost all day. Volkshotel is located within easy reach of the centre, but just far enough to provide a peaceful, relaxing stay. We loved it so much we booked to come back again in a couple of months!

Customer service is incredibly bad. And although the hote prides itswlf on being a work place as wel, they actually don't allow laptops in the sharwd areas regandless of being theor client. The guy at the bar was extremely rude and blunt.

Such a great hotel with an authentic hostel vibe. It has everything you ever wanted or haven't though of wanting in a hotel. Cafe, Restaurant, hot tubs, sauna and common working spaces are just a few. There are also massages, yoga and a hairdresser you can set an appointment to. All the staff members were super friendly and with a young vibe. There's also a game room and a club downstairs, this place is endless! The XS rooms are small but offer everything you need in addition to great up-to-date design and a huge window with a view.

We were luck enough to be upgraded to a studio, which was brilliant. Free to come and go as we please and even cook meals. It was a great layout and very different to what we are used to. The hotel is great, there’s a lovely laid back vibe and the staff are very polite and helpful. What we like best was the sustainability of it all, which is why we chose it in the first place.

Amazing experience, couldn't recommend it more!! My partner and I had a great weekend in Amsterdam and the hotel was a big part of the experience. Lots of activities to do, cool atmosphere and very close from the city centre, especially if you decide to cycle. When back in Amsterdam, we will stay here 100% - can't wait to be back!

4 1/2 stars. Great location, friendly staff, fun concepts and decor, and we ate at the restaurant and had coffee at the cafe twice each- great food and coffee. The medium rooms waste some space with elongated hallways that could be used to enlarge the bathroom a little, and the comforter was a little small for the bed. Otherwise, clean and comfortable.

  • 5/5 Michelle D. 1 year ago on Google
By far the best Hotel experience ever! If you are planning on going to Amsterdam and looking for a hip and cool Hotel - don’t look any further. I couldn’t have picked a better a hotel for our stay in the city and i must say i was pleasantly surprised, it was much better than expected. The metro was a few steps away and the center only a few stops away. A supermarket was also a few doors down. We walked into the center a few times and was a pleasant 20 min stroll. We booked a XS room which was very clean, and new! (Not practical for 5 nights as it was tiny and there wasn’t any storage space, apart from a few hangers) but the bed was so comfy and the concept was so cool and modern that we didn’t care. Both the ground floor bar and 7th floor Canvas restaurant/bar are a must visit, not to mention the roof top hot tubs. It seems like the in place to visit for the locals too. The Hotel also organizes events throughout the week which we gladly participated in. The staff were first class, so friendly and helpful. I congratulate Volkshotel for their excellent concept and management. We will be back!

Apart from a few small details (e.g. hair conditioner, bit of dust on the sides) this hotel has everything you need for a short stay in Amsterdam. Although not in the centre, it's nice being outside of the busy area and not far from some great spots off the beaten track. Good value, clean and friendly service! Rooftop bar/restaurant is a bonus!

Volkshotel is a wonderful place with everything you’d ever want in a hotel - fun and comfy rooms, delicious breakfast, spa/hot tubs on the roof with an amazing view, and lovely drinks at either the upstairs or ground floor bar (and even a club in the basement). We had an amazing stay here as a group of 4, and though the hotel is a little out of town, everything is in walkable distance really! Couldn’t recommend enough!

One of the nicest hotels ive stayed at. From Location, convenience, ease of access to the metro, this hotel IS THE ONE. Id recommend it to any young person staying in Amsterdam. Staff is also extremely nice and answered MANY of the questions I had. I will be staying here again!! Breakfast was nice as well. A hearty continental style buffet. I enjoyed the freshly made croissant made daily!

One of the coolest hotels I have ever stayed at! Super trendy, modern, and the staff are wonderful. The lobby is always buzzing with people and sometimes live music, as well as an awesome bar upstairs and rooftop hot tubs, plus our room had a bed hanging from the ceiling and beautiful view. Could not recommend enough.

Terrible experience here. As a PAYING hotel guest, there are no public areas to eat your own food because the lobby and restaurant upstairs. They tell you to "eat in your room." What hotel does that?! I travel A LOT for business and leisure and have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world, and this has NEVER happened. Every hotel has a public space especially for GUESTS. The lobby is cafe and a co-working space that is filled with people working so during the day, there is NO WHERE to sit. On top of that, it was winter and they had the audacity to tell me to sit outside so I can eat my own food. I'm health conscious and a nutritionist (aside from my other businesses) and also have to be mindful of my blood sugar so I had a SALAD that I bought and chicken from a place where I knew where they SOURCED the ingredients. The restaurant upstairs only had oat milk (lactose intolerant like most of the population), and oat milk is the worst lactose free milk you can have because of its sugar content. Some of the staff was nice but management needs to change their polices because this is supposed to be a hotel. What kind of policies are these?!??! Hotels are in the SERVICE industry. If I knew this, I would've never stayed here. I will never pay to stay at this hotel nor recommend this hotel to any of my friends.

Volkshotel is definitely the best hotel I've explored in Amsterdam so far. It has a great location just next to the metro station, everything is spacious, clean and well maintained. I liked the interior industrial, creative design. The new part of the building itself is well isolated, there are no noises coming from the outside at night. You can enjoy the silence and rest properly. The room itself was beautiful, very well designed with high ceiling, entresol, balcony and lots of light. It was well equipped (own bathroom, kitchen with water cooker, kitchenware, even a speaker so you could play music in your room - the idea of mine was that it would be nice to have possiblity to stream the music played in the rooftop restaurant inside the rooms cause the music played there was very good). There is a rooftop restaurant with a view over the city. The service there is professional and friendly. They have good food and drinks. You can relax on the rooftop with sauna and warm bath (how precious during cold nights in Amsterdam!). There was absolutely nothing to complain about. I left the place relaxed and rested. Thank you. I will definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Amsterdam and have a great experience.

Cute, hipster and quirky and also quite basic. We enjoyed our stay. The only thing is, the pillows were way to soft. They might as well not have put a pillow at all. But apart from that, affordable hotel with good connection to the city center.

  • 5/5 Luke G. 4 months ago on Google
It was a wonderful place to stay, the staff are all very friendly and helpful, the rooms are very clean, comfy and secure. We only had breakfasts, which are tasty yet a little too basic. Had no problems during our stay. Not sure whether we imagined it or if we actually saw a mouse by the reception area. Would stay again. Next time. Thanks for hosting us!

  • 4/5 Kerrin B. 6 months ago on Google
The top bunk isn’t too comfortable, but the lower bunk beds were much softer. The biggest problem is that the rooms are warm. The air conditioning is pretty useless. We were sleeping on top of our covers. Coffees and hot chocolates were simply delicious.

  • 4/5 Nicola J. 4 months ago on Google
Really fun and quirky hotel. I love that it’s right outside the metro because that suited our needs. There is a lot going on here!! Roof top hot tub was lovely on a cold November night We got “upgraded” to a family room. My main concern was that the steps are super slippy in the room and that there are NO main lights making it hard to see at night, especially when getting ready to go out. No mirror, fridge or kettle either. So it was kind of hotel, kind of hostel. Just wish it had a few extra bits that hotels have. Really enjoyed our stay! It suited us but I wouldn’t come back because it just needed more basic necessities in the room We also arrived at 1030AM and our room was ready. So that was a winner!

  • 5/5 Juba B. 3 months ago on Google New
Fantastic place to stay/Hangout! Brilliant relaxed vibe and great service throughout! Cannot recommend enough! My one bit of advice/criticism for the hotel. It would have been nice to have a squeegee for the wet room shower/toilet to get rid of the water after showering as the screen does not stop water getting to the toilet area so it can be a bit uncomfortable to use the toilet with a wet floor!

  • 2/5 Palina S. 2 years ago on Google
My partner and I live in Amsterdam and wanted to stay a night in a nice hotel. We arrived at the Volkshotel with high hopes and excitement. The room we entered in had a very hostely vibe to it - and the mattresses were also as hard as in a hostel. I’m still quiet young but my back isnt 17 anymore and i would have expected more from a room that is 160€ a night. Also there was no minibar as we hoped for… Falling asleep was also very difficult due to the party on the 7th floor and the ground floor. The crying and yelling neighbors weren’t also helpful. 2 stars for a clean interior. Otherwise i would have give it a minus 1

Stayed here two times over the years and I love the vibe and chambers! This weekend was the second time and I was looking forward to my stay; It was just as loveley as the last time. The rooms are quiet (close the window to shut out noise from the streets :-)), neat and basic but neatly styled! For breakfast I can reccomend the buffet on the 7th floor whilst looking over the skyline of Amsterdam. Metrostation, supermarket and the citycenter are very close to the Volkshotel!

What a nice place! Formal newpaper headquarters! Followed a training today. Had a look at the rooftop restaurant! Nice view! Place offers working spaces, only at the cost of buying a drink or meal! Nice initiative!!!

I live near this hotel but I stayed at this hotel for a day because of the construction noise of my apartment building. The hotel staff was very friendly and the price of the double room was very reasonable. And good casual atmosphere. I highly recommend this hotel if you are young, you have a animal friend, don't spend a lot of time in the hotel room. But I couldn't eat breakfast buffet because of Corona. And I visited this hotel in the last week of May and my dog and I stayed there, were very hot (including the middle of the night). I think their air conditioner is a central air conditioning system, so they can't control the temperature in individual rooms.

  • 2/5 Sacha E. 3 years ago on Google
Me and my partner booked a special Valentine’s package to stay here during the Dutch Corona lockdown. The package was 130 euro per person, and included a dinner with hallway live music and a special late check out. The dinner is in a separate room and can be picked up from Canvas. While we hoped for some valentine decorations, the dinner was nice nonetheless. Picking up the food went smoothly and gave a much needed eating out feeling. The food was tasty as well. Unfortunately however the advertised live music lasted for a total of 10 minutes, and was so far away it was hard to hear. The morning was less nice: there was loud drilling and renovation work in the hotel right next to us from very early (before 9) onwards. This beats the entire purpose of us looking for a nice and relaxing getaway from home with a late checkout. While the breakfast was very tasty, it isn’t so nice to eat that with constant drilling in the background. We were offered a coupon for our next visit, but since we live in walking distance and only booked for the valentine special and the Corona situation we are likely not using that. Overall very disappointing.

  • 1/5 Dan D. 2 years ago on Google
Not worth booking with them. Staff that deals with reservations could do with some business training on how to keep high paying clients happy. Had a horrific experience, will never do business with them again. Think twice before you book with them, there are better options, just around the corner.

  • 5/5 Stephanie L. 2 years ago on Google
We had a lovely time in the hotel. Very modern, design-forward vibe that doesn't compromise on comfort. The highlights were : the iced lattés from the café, the laid-back helpfulness of the staff, and of course the rooftop hot tub and sauna with amazing views of the city. Would definitely love to come back.

We had a perfect long weekend at the Volkshotel! Laid back vibe, relaxing and welcoming atmosphere, authentic, very friendly and helpful staff. Spend the evening enjoying a drink at the hotel bar, jump into the Badplaats on the rooftop, have a good night sleep in the minimalistic rooms and get yourself a creamy Cappuccino at the bar in the morning. We‘d come back any time! Thank you for having us 🤍

There are hotels where I as a digital nomad feel „home“. This is one of the hotels. Excellent food in the Canvas Restaurant- and really people that care about your well being. Had 2 dinner nights there. Rooftop Sauna is quite small - but ok. Hot Tubs are super when not too busy. Would recommend this hotel - also for workshops - nice conference room.

I'm a fan of creative hotel rooms, and the Volkshotel didn't disappoint. The room was probably the most interesting one I've stayed in Amsterdam, and with the best quality-price ratio. Service was excellent, not only for Amsterdam (where service is famously bad), but for any hotel - everyone was very nice and efficient (which was key, as I was staying for work and had a morning meeting). Plus, the Volkshotel offers a ton of details I wish all hotels offered: the tablet in the room logged into Netflix (intended to work with the projector), the stocked up free mini-bar, the book about the room's design intended to be taken home as a souvenir... I will definitely stay over again to try out the other room types.

Excellent place to stay in Amsterdam. The hotel definitely has character to it. The room was incredibly nice and clean, offered a great view of the surrounding city, including the restaurant area. The hotel receptionists were great and helpful with any request I had. The lobby had a nice relaxing atmosphere about it that I feel in love with straight away. On top of the building also offered a nice place to relax with great views. Would recommend.

This place is just amazing. I love hotels that have such character! This place is so cool, I literally would live here if I could afford it. Room was super nice, as well as the bathroom. Shampoo, body wash and hand wash was provided with is great. And the automatic blinds were mind blowing. Every staff member I interacted with was incredibly nice and catered to my every need. Literally the perfect location, not in a super touristy spot so it’s quieter, but only 1 minute walk to the metro so you can literally get anywhere. Would literally live here if I could!! Go stay!!!

This is the coolest hotel I've ever stayed at. The staff was so friendly and down to earth and absolutely made me feel at home. Everything was so easy here and the food was incredible at Canvas. My ONLY criticism was that the room was a bit warm and stuffy. Admittedly I was there during a heat wave but the moment the sun rose on my east facing room there was no sleeping in. Not great for late nights. Otherwise I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend. Edit - I wanted to clarify the room was extremely clean. No dust. Just warm.

  • 3/5 Guido P. 1 year ago on Google
The room is very original (Johnny guitar) but not very clean. There's dust everywhere, a used condom wrapper under the bed. The vinyl records are a nice addition but we spent 1 hour putting them back in the sleeves. they would need special care from the hotel staff The rest of the hotel is great.

This was a great hotel! My husband and I were on vacation with our 1yo and this was a great choice for us. We rented a studio room and it had everything we needed for us and the baby. It was also a great hotel to enjoy the bar, outdoor space and restaurants after the baby went to sleep. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great central hotel with lots going on.

Nice and dynamic hotel. The team is attentive and responds very quickly to requests. The bar of the hotel is quite warm and the small snacks excellent (Chicken burger is a treat as well as the home made fries!) The location is excellent, the metro is almost at the door of the hotel and brings us in a few minutes to central station to explore the historical center of Amsterdam. We had a very good stay and we will come back again! Thanks to the whole team 😉👍

Very nice and interesting hotel, nice rooms, great breakfast, we are recommending bar and restaurant with terrace. The only thing that bothered us was a lot of dust all over the room, at the wooden surfaces. The idea of unique, bare walls is interesting and attractive, but it is connected with no perfect cleanliness. Nevertheless, great view, good location, a lot of cool people.

I love this place, big fan of the place and the (authentic) people. Extremely nice atmosphere for a coffee with friends, or focus work in the working area. The restaurant gives an amazing view over the city and the wellness on top floor is priceless. Would definitely recommend.

This hotel has lots to offer. Really impressed with the restaurant and hot tubs on the top floor. The facilities make the hotel special; it is way more than a typical hotel. The hotel is located next door to a metro stop which makes travel in and out of the city centre easy and cheap (approx £2 a trip and the journey takes 5 minutes). I came here with my girlfriend, we are both late 20’s and we found the vibe perfect. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, would recommend Volkshotel to anyone, you’ll love it!

I loved my stay here. The hotel has a metro station directly outside, which takes ten minutes to get to the center. The room was lovely and clean, and the hotel staff was very helpful. The restaurant on the seventh floor serves drinks until one in the morning and offers views over all of Amsterdam. My favorite features on the eighth floor were the outdoor sauna and hot tubs. I will definitely stay here again because I felt so refreshed after my stay.

It is a very dynamic, young and eventful place. The location is great and you have many options to work during the day, have a coffee, go clubbing in the basement, enjoy the jacuzzis on the roof, etc. we stayed in a studio and we really liked it! It was very spacious, clean, well-equipped with a cute little kitchen and a balcony. Especially worth mentioning is the restaurant on the 7th floor ‘Canvas’! You have a great view over the city, the atmosphere is relaxed but professional, they serve good food and phenomenal drinks. The staff was exceptionally attentive, friendly and had a good vibe. Will definitely come back!

On the top of the tower you will find nice bar when you can spend nice evening with few points and friends of course :) high rate pl...

😐 It is a large, somewhat impersonal, completely unshaded and extremely noisy campsite (we were in the tented section).Noisy because there is a large multi-lane bridge nearby, which is still very busy at night. Also noisy because of the "cigarette smokers". There are no rules and regulations - or if t...
