Very popular restaurant for local dutch cuisine. It has great decorations of mother’s photos from around the world, the high ceiling making the restaurant feel spacious and classy as well. The food was great, the lobster bisque was tasty and the duck confit was tender and crispy outside. Note: they only allocated certain seats for online reservation, and still have some tables if you walk in. I went there around 8pm and there were few tables still available for walk-ins.

Fantastic experience in this place entirely dedicated to mothers, many original photos of moms exposed from all eras create a truly touching atmosphere. The food was exquisite; It was a beautiful journey into Dutch culture, very special the fact that each person had a different set of cutlery, plates, glasses… I will definitely be back to try other delicacies✨.

Very good Dutch restaurant in Amsterdam. You will find only typical Dutch food very well cooked. Highly recommended to tourists that want to try some Dutch special meals, which is not easy to find in general in NL. Service is very friendly and authentic. A bit pricey but I recommend it for the nice food and lovely service and atmosphere

Traditional Dutch food! Tasty! We were there at 5:30pm without a reservation and got a seat. But lots of people came after us didn’t get a seat that day coz they are fully booked. Worth a visit if you want to try transitional Dutch food. Portion is big so don’t order too much. The rice dishes is a must try! Lobster soup is a bit salty.

Such a cool and unique spot! Brought my mother-in-law for her birthday while she was in town from the US and they had great Dutch dishes and all of the walls are covered in frames with photos of mothers. We had a group of 8 and the staff was super friendly and accommodating for vegetarian and gluten-free options. Definitely will bring more visitors back!

Amazing dishes at reasonable prices. The beef stew is great, ample portion of beef inside. Lamb chop is soft and tender. Mama coffee with alcohol is sweet and packs a punch. Apple pie is soft and goes well with the icecream. Really interesting place and served by a beautiful lady. Do try this place out!

Cozy place with choice of indoor and outdoor. Reservation is recommended. It is packed. The place is filled with all the pictures of different mom. It is one of the to go place I would recommend for local Netherlands food like hopscotch. Very filling. I had wine to go with it. Easy accessible with tram. Quite hard to manoeuvre between tables as quite cozy and packed. The hopscotch taste so good with the sauce. I had it with spinach and that is why it is in green. Beef stew is nice and rich and beef are tender and melt when u have them. The staff are friendly and helpful.

A traditional dutch restaurant with incredible service and incredible food. We did not have a reservation and walked in to the restaurant and were able to get a table. We ordered the hachee and veggie curry and both were extremely delicious. I also have to add the restaurant was beautiful. I loved all the photos and it really bought out a feel good vibe

This is as good as Dutch food goes. Serves Dutch classics such as stamp pot (potatoes mashed with vegetables) and beef stew, plus a beef tasting set (yay!). 🍺 Loved the quirky interior with photos of moms covering the entire wall.

Fun vibe and decor. Friendly service. The walls are covered with picture frames of mothers. Homely traditional Dutch food. Personally wasn’t a fan of stamppot, but hey, when in Rome (Amsterdam) got to sample the local cuisine! Very popular spot so a bit of a wait for a table. Tables are quite close to each other. Would recommend

We enjoyed the Dutch rice dish here. The highlight was the apple sauce which we would have liked to have more of, baby potatoes and the beef onion stew. We were lucky to not have a reservation but got seated after a 5-10min wait. Extensive traditional Dutch menu with an option to enjoy an array of non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages as well. Service was friendly and there are lots of tourists. Definitely recommend for a no fuss lunch or dinner during your visit

Managed to grab a last minute seat at this Dutch institution, and we weren’t disappointed with what we found. Quirky and colourful, Moeders is a delight. Greeted like friends and served with homely, comforting food, we left feeling warmed not just by the variety of potato and meat dishes, but Moeders itself. Thank you.

hich is a mixture of Thai, Indonesia food and potatoes. To be honest, service is not the Dutch's strong suite. Then can do better. They are always polite and with a friendly face. That would suffice anywhere, but coming from a place in where the service is all, I founded them wanting a little bit in this department. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was very casual and cozy. The place is very warm and has certain friendliness that screams to you, like a restaurant that has been around since your childhood. But if you arrive without a reservation they will send you away. The place is very small so they cannot accommodate large parties with ease (maximum 9). The food is very tasty and unpretentious. Like if you were eating at a friends house. They do not offer table services like bread or sauces, but they do give you wet towels to clean your hands. The Rijsttafel is their own interpretation of the famous dish. Very well executed and tasty. However to much potatoes for my taste. The deserts were just ok, certainly there are better places for Dutch apple pie. In summary, this place is a must whenever you visit Amsterdam. Just be sure to make a reservation beforehand.

Warm fuzzy feeling to eat at a restaurant celebrating Mothers! Traditional Danish place with home cooked food. Bring your mother’s photo and they will gladly put it up even in the toilet! So heartwarming! Go slow on the carbo as portions are big. The beef stew is classic and must have! Price is affordable and reservation is advised.

Make reservations in advance, if not it is advised for walk ins to go in off peak hours. Staff were very friendly and service was fantastic. We got the mixed platter to share and it was absolutely delicious, the portion was huge as well. We had the local beer, blurred lines, on tap which was lovely. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the pictures on the walls really add to the warmth. Would definitely visit again when in amsterdam!!

Nice food (even though I expected the hutspot to be tastier…), nice atmosphere. My friend was still finishing her wine and we were asked if we wanted to pay already… I guess it was getting busier and they wanted our table to be ready for the next guests as soon as possible.

Love the spare ribs! We didnt have a reservation and was lucky to have a seat when we went. Staff were very friendly and attentive! the place was rather cramped though but the food was delicious. Ordered the Father Spare Ribs (bigger portion to share), Hachee (beef stew with onions), Confit of Duck and an Apple Pie.

Very cosy family restaurant. 🥔🥬🐄 They offer hearty traditional dishes and have pictures of mothers hanging all over the walls. 📝 The service was the highlight, super friendly and attentive waitresses. 💰 Affordable prices, but I thought it was a bit expensive.

The place has really a motherly vibe to it that it made me feel emotional the moment I sat on the table (the pictures of mums were also a plus). The dishes were good and the ambient was really nice. Staff were friendly too! It's best if you book ahead as they tend to be always full.

Very good option for the ones that like to experience traditional cuisine, what is not easy to find in The Netherlands. The food was really tasty and everything inside the restaurant was made to make you feel "gezellig"! I could taste affection mixed with the food. The lamb was really good!

  • 5/5 Grzegorz K. 2 years ago on Google
Really welcoming and friendly staff, did not have to wait for food long, so thats great. The food was also great. There are tables inside and outside, with nice view.

Went at 5pm on a Sunday without reservation and was lucky to be given a table but we had to vacate an hour later which was more than enough time to dine there. The lobster bisque was quite salty. There was complimentary bread with garlic butter. The lamb skewers were good and the portion was huge. The lamb gamey taste was mild. Beef stew stamppot was nicely done as well. The cabbage was soft and goes well with the mash.

Yummy traditional Dutch Stamppot (Hotchpotch) just like Moeder used to make! I recommend the Carrot & Onion or Spinach mash potato 😋 Oh and finish off with Apple Pie with cinnamon, raisins and ice cream ❤️

Definitely make reservations! We didn’t have reservations and sat at the outdoor patio and had a few drinks hoping we would get in. We definitely got lucky! The food, atmosphere, and service were incredible. One of the best meals we had in Amsterdam.

  • 5/5 Germaine T. 1 year ago on Google
Quaint restaurant with a lovely concept - it features photos of real-life mothers all over the walls (they’re still taking submissions)! All of the plates and utensils are mismatched because they were brought by guests who attended the opening in 1990. All of the food was great too, especially the ribs and lamb skewers (I’m not usually a fan of lamb, but this was so good)! Would definitely return again to try other dishes.

  • 4/5 Alice V. 7 months ago on Google
The vibe was charming and homey, decked out with a bunch of “mother” photographs that truly impressed me. Worth to try if you visit Amsterdam. My first experience with authentic Dutch dishes. However, it didn’t quite suit my palate, even it’s pretty good.

  • 4/5 sandra l. 5 months ago on Google
Tried one of the specials which was yummy and liked that they had extra gravy on the side! Good sized portion, I didn’t need all of it but I ate it all anyway. Service was a little slow but the staff were lovely.

  • 5/5 Dylan L. 5 months ago on Google
What a warm and cozy restaurant experience! Truly feels like the Mother’s house and cooking. If you want to try everything, get the samplers platter. However I would highly suggest just get the beef stews (onion or mustard both were fantastic). Otherwise it’s just a lot of potatoes. The salad was top notch. The women brewed beers are must try as well. You won’t regret it.

I recently dined at this restaurant highly recommended by friends for its typical Dutch cuisine. I suggest booking ahead. Walk-in can be possible, but wait can be very long. The place has this cool, cozy vibe—totally unique with tables pretty close to each other. Tried the beers on tap tray, offering a selection of very good brews, very well served that included IPA, Heineken,Bock and White beer. Started with a tasy lobster soup, then went for the recommended plate, the Dutch Ricedish. The Stampot was ok, stews were kinda alike, and there was a potato overload, but it was nice overall. Shoutout to the super friendly staff—they made the whole thing even better! 🍻🍲

🌟 Moeders: A Taste of Home in Amsterdam! 🌟 Moeders is a hidden gem in Amsterdam, offering a delightful experience of traditional Dutch cuisine that feels like a warm hug from mom. From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped in a cozy atmosphere, with photos of mothers adorning every wall, creating a nostalgic ambiance. The food is simply divine, with hearty dishes that showcase the flavors of Holland. What makes Moeders even more special is their tradition of inviting guests to bring a photo of their own mother to hang on the walls, adding a personal touch to the dining experience. With reasonable prices and a welcoming vibe, Moeders is the perfect spot for a memorable family meal that celebrates the love of mothers everywhere. 🍽️👩‍👧‍👦✨

Visited, Aug 2018. A very memorable culinary experience at Amsterdam. Such a quirky ambience and loved the decorum of mother photos scaffolded all over the walls! A popular restaurant so definitely need to book beforehand - I didn't bother as I went by myself. I had the Hachee, a chocolate party and mothers coffee. All the food was delicious and warm and I returned to my accomodation two sizes bigger - definitely felt like visiting Mums!

Robust, hearty, homestyle Dutch cuisine, served under the watchful gazes of a thousand portraits of beloved mothers of owners, staff and customers alike. The room positively bedazzled with photos, trinkeys and kitschy decor that gives the place the feel of Sunday dinner at Nana's. A truly unique experience in a city full of wonders. Highly recommended.
