Very underwhelmed. Maybe it’s due to cutting ties with Russian connection but it feels like they were just filling the space rather than showing something worth seeing. Cesar exhibition is all about reading basic facts that most people know anyway. The other wing supposed to tell you the story of Amsterdam but it is very poorly organized, like a big flee market. I felt like I wasted my time.

Interesting exhibition, beautifully and excitingly designed.

There are three museums, I didn't realize that. In one wing there are changing Rembrandt exhibitions. The Museum of Amsterdam, dedicated to the city's history, is housed in the other wing. Among them is the Museum of the Mind. All three museums are worth seeing.

This museum had a smaller permanent collection on display than others in Amsterdam. It was really only one room. They did have audio guides that let you hear about many of the major works. In addition to the permanent collection, they did have a temporary exhibit as well. When we were there it was about justice and equality. We finished with the permanent collection in under 45 minutes. We were done with the whole museum after about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The entrance is actually a little hard to find. You can enter on the canal side or on the side street. But you need to make your way into a courtyard.

Fantastic exhibition, well currently there are two of them. Democracy and Russian avant-garde. I personally think one was kept just to bring the contrast out of the other. Overall a beautiful museum. Easily can spend 3-4 hours. The free audio guide is a must, the narrator personality is charming.

Wonderful weekend market filled with stalls selling choice fresh goods. An island of calm in a very busy Amsterdam! Highly recommend the Oishi Buns - many different flavours including vegetarian options. We have the vegetarian one and the Peking Duck with cabbage. Freshly made and piping hot! Free entry.

Currently, there is a nice exhibition about Rembrand and other painters at the same time. It is very nicely arranged and the atmosphere of the Hermitage Amsterdam is really great. The story of the exhibition was great and interesting. I really liked that they added videos giving a more indepth explanation of some paintings. They accept museum card. Parking is difficult close to the museum.

In light of the ongoing situation in Eastern Europe, the museum decided to break away from its partnership with the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. In support of the gesture by the museum, the Rijksmuseum has loaned ‘The Milkmaid’ by Johannes Vermeer to the Dutch Heritage Museum for a short period. As a result, it is on display alongside a very interesting and informative exhibition on Vermeer’s painting style. The museum is a beautiful space with spacious interiors, amenities, and a lovely garden/courtyard space. Lovely visit and well recommended for those that want to gain insight on Vermeer whilst this exhibition is on for a short period.

Very informative. They are extremely quick at updating the content as you can see parts of exhibition dedicated to events of 2022. As you walk through they do a beautiful job at blending and contrasting the original art pieces with their modern counterparts. Free audioguide provided.

Hermitage Amsterdam is a branch museum of the Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg, Russia, located on the banks of the Amstel river in Amsterdam. The museum is located in the former Amstelhof, a classical style building from 1681. The dependency displayed small exhibitions in the adjacent Neerlandia Building from 24 February 2004 until the main museum opened on 19 June 2009.

Beautiful museum with a lot of paintings from the 17th centurion and beautiful decorated rooms. Now there is an exhibition with art from the middle ages and lots of harnasses and helmets, it is a unique collection from the vaults of the Hermitage in St Petersburg. Highly recomended.

I love the Hermitage Museum. The Julius Caesar exhibition told a powerful story. There is not a big collection but it was well curated. The Egyptian themed jewellery in the gift shop was also pretty cool.

The Hermitage is one of the most wonderful museums. They Re-decorate their museum beautifully for every exhibition. The exhibition is build up so that it really tells an interesting tale instead of just showcasing pieces. My favorite Amsterdam museum!

Disappointed ! Fully-staff front desk and doors open, but the museum is closed on a Monday early afternoon. A museum of this importance should, in my opinion, be open during regular business hours.

Interesting exhibition to get to know the history of Amsterdam, not only by arts or objects, but also photos, video, other interactive stuff. Also the working staff is very friendly and nice. It's a good place to spend a couple hours, especially when there is cold outside :)

Amazing exhibitions, specially portrays and knights were very interesting. The portray paintings are in the large format in a very spacious salon. Knight equipment brings you to the medieval.

The Julius Caesar exhibition is…more like giving a history lesson alongside some not-so-extraordinary objects of the SPQR. There is a lot to hear with the audio guide and the texts are well-formed. But sadly there aren’t many good antiques to see actually. The objects are mediocre, some not really relevant to Caesar in particular, and are mostly lumped in glass shelves that kills the aesthetics. If you haven’t known a lot about Caesar you may find it very educative; but for me I’ve known enough about him, and this exhibition then becomes quite dull. Plus, the exhibition venue looks like a construction site.

I was here as part of a business meeting so not very much cultural, but it’s a nice place for an offsite meeting; Maybe good to provide visitors an instruction on how to use screens and projectors, I noticed a colleague struggling to get his notebook on the screen.

a great and informative exhibition on the life of Julius Caesar with a Dutch slant. Very good. The museum is clean quiet and interesting. No bags allowed but they have free lockers in the entrance.

Interesting to see how the human body works like this. The museum is also much larger than I expected. It's a scary thought that everything you see is real and comes from people who donated their bodies after their death.

Neat & spacious museum showing exhibition from Rembrandthius & Contemporaries. Love those artworks The other exhibit showed the modern arts. Worth visiting

Nice interior garden to relax. Very quiet. The museum itself is quite small and a bit disappointing. Really not worth the money, if you have to pay full price. If you have a Museumkaart it's good to have a quick look inside.

Very disappointing. We were aware that they were disconnected from hermitage, but they need to explain better about the exhibitions are nothing like it was before. Apart from that , the "Amsterdam Museum" doesnt have enough historic stuff in it and the one that are there are not shown properly. The items are put randomly, and in a very squeezed way. It could have been designed in a much better way. The Julius Caesar exhibition was nice , but it was too much writing, which we could have read in Wikipedia or online.

Staff super helpful and polite, great building, interesting exhibitions, good facilities and a large amount if lockers, besides a nice terrace.

Went to watch a movie there. It was quite amazing. There was also a super fun movie quiz and we were provided with blankets ( helpful because it got chilly at night). Gezellig!

Underwhelming and overpriced. I had hoped for more of the exhibition stating Julius Cesar - as never before .. took 15 minutes with a slow pace to get through it all and it was very disappointing to pay 22 euro for just that. I can NOT recommend going there for that exhibition

At Hermitage Amsterdam I had a unique opportunity to see some of the the most significant paintings from the 17th century created by Dutch artists, in a wonderful selection from the Kaplan private art collection (Leiden collection). It was an amazing experience!

I just visited the Rembrandt and contemporary collection, but it was incredibly beautiful. There is a free audio guide but it doesn't talk about the exposition (in the English version), so I didn't find it very useful. There is also a small market on Saturdays! They are very nice.

Fun and very interesting museum definitely recommend if you visit Amsterdam. The aesthetic of the museum went good with the paintings and the whole place was very artistic. The audio guide was my favourite part, always fun and interesting to listen. If you go after lunch I recommend buying your tickets in advance because there’s always a long line in the afternoon.

This museum is very pretty and the toilets are nice and clean too. The staff were friendly and informative. We came on a weekend so it was crowded and it took a while before we could deposit our belongings with the museum (no bags allowed in the exhibitions) as there was only one staff attending to many visitors

I came to this museum for the first time when I heard that the "Tower of Babel" was coming to Amsterdam. This wasn't crowded and I was able to see the paintings slowly. It is also recommended to take a break at the courtyard cafe where the green of trees and grass is beautiful.

It's more for history lover than art lover, compare to the rijksmuseum. There are important people portraits by famous artists, and a nice knight armor and history exhibition. But if you re looking for fascinating artistic values , it's not the place. the name Hermitage might give you the wrong impression it's artistically important. But it's more like a city history museum. I found 27.5 euros expensive compare to the intensive masterpieces in rijksmuseum for 20 euros. Give it 3 star for theres a hall with nice view. Art lovers can skip this one , you won't regret.

  • 3/5 EMMANOUELA V. 2 years ago on Google
Nice museum especially for the kids .They could see a variety of medieval armour and swords. It's not a big museum and I think that 27,50 euros are a lot of money. Even rijksmuseum costs 20 euros and it's huge, with so many things to see.

The Romanovs and Knights exhibition is a beautifully themed and diverse exposition of different arts and artifacts. The treasure hunt for children is fun and lets you examine the art on display even better. And the LEGO buildings are the icing on the cake.

Portrait Gallery of the 17th century Surprisingly few visitors (Thu 12am) - in a good way. Also surprised about the free audio-guide. Good storytelling and impressive art.
