Basic-Fit Fitness Amsterdam

Gym

😠 I’ve used quite a few gyms in Amsterdam, Basic-fit is by far the worst. This location is dirty and smelly, weights everywhere, nobody re-racks. If you can go somewhere else, do it. This place makes me want to stop working out. People often mention equipment, staff, machines, time, space, weights, price, busy, clean, basic,

Partly really messy that you have to search for weights all over place and on the other side worn equipment (e.g. kettlebells where you can't read the unit. I have seen better low cost gyms.

I have been trying out a multitude of gyms since arriving in amsterdam and this so far is the worst (also cheapest). No staff seemed to exist, you need to use the bathroom sink for water if you do not want to pay to fill up your bottle at the "sports drink" fountain. No one puts their weights back so it is hard to tell what benches and racks are being used. The dumbbells are just put back in random spots. I understand that for the price this is all you can expect, but I will not be returning.

UPDATE: it's still busy but after renovation they are making much better use of the space! Still: Avoid peak hours ( shown on Google). And they should be open longer on weekends than 4pm. Otherwise great prices for subscription plans, friendly staff and wide variety of machines available. Update 2: now open 24/7, I couldn't be more excited!!!!

I recently had the opportunity to visit a fantastic gym that left a lasting impression on me. This gym truly lives up to its name as a big, clean, and professional establishment. First and foremost, basic fit is spacious and well-maintained. As soon as you step in, you're greeted with a sense of openness and brightness. The gym floor is expansive and well laid out, providing ample space for all types of workouts and activities. The equipment is top-notch and well-maintained, with a wide variety of options to cater to every fitness need. Whether you're into weightlifting, cardio, or group classes, FitZone has got you covered. Cleanliness is a top priority at basic fit. The staff is diligent in ensuring that the gym is spotless at all times. I was impressed by how clean and well-kept everything was, from the workout equipment to the locker rooms. It's clear that they prioritize hygiene and create an environment that promotes health and well-being. What sets basic fit apart is its professionalism. The staff is knowledgeable, approachable, and always ready to assist or offer guidance. Certified trainers are readily available to help with form, technique, and personalized workout plans. The instructors for group classes are skilled and motivate participants to push their limits. The overall atmosphere is supportive and inclusive, making it a great place for both beginners and seasoned gym-goers. Basic fit also offers additional amenities that add to its appeal. The locker rooms are spacious, clean, and well-equipped. There's a dedicated space for stretching and warm-ups, adding to the overall convenience and functionality of the facility. Additionally, they offer a range of membership options to suit different needs and budgets, making it accessible to a wide range of people. Overall, basic fit is an exceptional gym that ticks all the boxes. Its big, clean, and professional environment sets the stage for individuals to pursue their fitness goals with confidence and enthusiasm. If you're looking for a gym that will provide you with top-notch equipment, a clean and inviting space, and a supportive community, basic fit is the perfect fit.

Nice large location, very nice staff, but unfortunately Basic Fit has been doing virtually nothing in terms of maintenance for about a year now, so you are exercising on equipment that almost all has completely worn-out arm pads and seats. It is unsanitary and will ruin your clothes. There's no point in complaining, you won't even get a response. We have already seen many regular athletes leave because of this and also look for another gym. Too bad, it was a really nice place.

It is not so cheap as it seems, because they don't respect the end of the contract and keep taking money from you. They are unwilling to solve the problem when you contact them. This happened to me and to others as well. They are completely unreachable to solve the issue. I repeat: DO NOT GO HERE!!

You have crowded, and then you have Basic-Fit Baarsjesweg. Go here if you want to have the full "Hoeveel setjes moet je nog?" experience!

Crowded, the variety of machines is very poor and mostly only one of the type (more than half of the machines are for cardio). Nobody re-racks and the changing room is closed in the evening so you have to change in a public space. Really poor gym, will not come back ever.

Decent amount of machines. The daily staff is quite nice. Especially Ronald is golden. Them not having any staff around at night is a terrible choice though. Lots of youth misbehaving and total anarchy at nights. Zero control. With members that are making a mess out of the place, not getting warned. All the weights and equipment tossed around. Tip: hire some people from the over priced drinks you sell. You know, those that aren't worth the price tag in a long shot? 20gr of protein €3,75,-? You got to be kidding me. One single bench press in one of the most busy Basic Fit locations of the Netherlands. And the leg press being out of business for about about a month. It just isn't a good look at all. Also letting children (-14) without supervision train, extremely dangerous. Totally irresponsible. Yanga 5 euro a month and you can only re-fill each 20 minutes. With the machine not even filling a 500ML bottle up. Imagine that you got a Basic Fit "premium" account and it isn't even included in the price. There's nothing premium about Basic Fit. It's about as premium as McDonalds their food is.

Since they closed the other gym nearby it's ridiculously stupid busy all of the time. Good space though, but closing the other gym was unnecessary.

It is OK for a public gym. ***Watch out*** you have to download a Google App that will give you entry. HOWEVER, If you don't have a Dutch phone provider you cannot download the app. Then they will try and sell you a card at €20. First, contact customer service and explain the situation. They will tell you to use the app, then let you know that it doesn't work for none Dutch phones. Contact them again, and they will ask you to purchase a card and offer to reimburse you the €20. I must admit I was a bit upset by the staff member (let's call him A) who told me that I had to buy the ticket. But I'd already been advised by 2 different staff members, who told me to contact customer service. I mentioned this to 'A' and he said 'they were lying'. Wonder if there's a bonus for selling cards πŸ€”

Top Gym Nice gym to train. It's a shame that many devices are past their prime. Many devices are worn out or old. Still 5 stars because the atmosphere and the staff who work there deserve 5 stars.

How can people get rid of you? I cancelled my subscription and sent mails about it, which you apparently don't read, and keep asking for money. You also never pick up the phone. Get out of my life finally!

great free weight area, nice people, friendly staff, I love this gym. but I do have a christmas wish - a new leg extension machine, the old one is not functioning well anymore and provokes imbalances.

A small club but plenty of room for strength, cardio and stretching exercises. Staff are helpful and friendly. Changing rooms, shower and toilets are dirty, but that says something about the visitors. A gym that is open 24/7.

Fine for the price point and convenience. Constantly feels that it needs to be cleaned due to the volume of traffic through the day. Some machines take months to fix. Floor is in a constant state of disarray due to weights not being put back either by users or attendants.

Today Sep. 9 2022. Basic-fit was close. Without explain. This is unaceptable. They said its open 24/7. Not always. I just ask for a little respect with the members. It doesnt deserve even a one start. Basic fit waste my time.

Its really busy most of the time although thats expected when it comes to budget gyms. My main issue is that the gym has dozens of running/cycling machines which are mostly empty, but it only has one bench press which is always being used. I'd remove some of the running machines and add more of the ones that people tend to use more, it would space out the amount of people more.

This gym is one of the best basic fit branches in Amsterdam, the place is always clean and all machines works fine (except for one), they also have good music taste.

An old, well-known club with everything you need to train well. However, it is dirty and not hygienic inside and this also makes it less pleasant to train there, which is a real shame.

Equipment is not tracked. Poorly cleaned. Broken equipment stays broken for a long time. Pillows are not replaced. Ventilation is a real drama, foggy windows, little oxygen, and at this sports location it is warmer than it is at home when you are lying on the couch watching the series. The only positives are the price and the many options the gym offers.

Very rude worker at the door today provoking clients and not being helpful. My QR code was not working and the worker was constantly provoking myself and my partner and not being open to understand the problem. The gym is also often dirty, equipments broken and the section for floor work is very bad equipped.

Cheap, good location, and 24/7 is a plus, but WAY too many people (even outside of rush hours, like 15:00 on a weekday). Had to change gyms because if you want a specific machine or rack you’ll have to wait regardless of the time you go (unless you’re going after 10pm). Gym is also a mess, virtually nobody re-racks their weights or cleans the machines, dumbells and loose equipment is strewn all over the gym, and some equipment is in bad shape or constantly out of order. But you get what you pay for, I guess.

Cool gym, probably the cheapest in Amsterdam. There are many branches around the city. I really loved the one in Rembrandtplein. The one in Baarsjesweg is good enough for me, there are a lot of cardio devices and most of the time it isn't busy. In summer it gets a bit hot in door so try to go at night. Peak hours are between 4 pm to 9 pm, try to avoid them for a better experience.

😠 Unfortunate to see my favourite gym constantly in disrepair. Often taking weeks to months before simple issues are fixed. Cleanliness is also not as it used to be - WCs become disgusting later in the day. Calling customer support wasn’t helpful so I thought I’d post my complaints here.
