The National Monument on Dam Square is a prominent memorial in Amsterdam, dedicated to the victims of World War II. It stands as a symbol of remembrance and is the central focus during national events and ceremonies, including the annual Remembrance Day on May 4th.

This monument is created you memorialize the people who fought and died during WWII. It's one of those spot that you can't miss, because it's right in the center of Amsterdam by the Dam Square.

The Dam is the most iconic square in the city. It is the meeting point for tourists, streets artists, protesters, public events etc. you can sit down a bit at the stairs next to the national 2WW monument to feel the vibrant atmosphere of Amsterdam.

Nationaal Monument op de Dam (historic place) is a cenotaph built in 1956 in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. A national remembrance ceremony for the dead is held every year on 4 May to commemorate the victims of the Second World War and armed conflicts.

I'm not sure what this place is. But it seems to be an iconic spot in this area. The day I went, there were so crowded. The local people are sitting and chilling. It looked like a gathering spot for people to sit and talk casually, as you can see in the pictures. Also, there were a lot of birds around the monument.

Monument speaks for itself, a truly breathtaking sight! There are many shops open around the dam square including well known brands. There is very good lighting even at night and the restaurants are very delicious there. There are also very delicious ‘Belgian’ fries stores in the area as they call it served with their special mayonnaise sauce.

This monument was hard to miss. It is in the middle of Dam Square near the wax museum. A great place to take a sit on the steps to recover from a little walking.

A national monument is a monument erected on Dam Square, the central square of Amsterdam, the capital of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The monument was erected in 1956 in memory of those who died in World War II. Every year on May 4, a ceremony is held here to commemorate the victims of the war. Until 1914, Dam Square was adorned with another national monument, the Unity, which was a column surmounted by a female figure. After the end of World War II, it was decided to build a new monument on the central square, which would embody the unity of the people and would be a tribute to the memory of the victims. While the project was being discussed, a temporary monument was erected, which consisted of 11 urns with soil from all the provinces of the Netherlands. The land was taken from places of mass executions or military cemeteries. Later, a 12th urn was added, with soil from Indonesia, a former Dutch colony.

Not big monument is located in the corner of DAM square, if you do not pay attention you will probably not recognize it ... but without it this square would not be what it is now!

Amsterdam is a beautiful and lively city. The Dutch are polite and friendly. I have visited Amsterdam 3 times back in 2002-2006. You can enjoy walking in the city and see every corner near Dam square. You will see lots of Bikes. Some places were +18.

Too bad I didn't get to have a nice view of this one due to construction/maintenance work. Although this is the center of Amsterdam that makes a great meeting point for tourists and locals.

An iconic point of interest for tourist visiting Amsterdam. It's the centre of all activities literally. You can go either your way towards the more uptown locations like the rjiks museum and other iconic places or take the other way and spoil yourself within the red light area, casinos, adult entertainment and the famous Amsterdam coffee shops.

The monument is at the Dam square in the centre of Amsterdam, surrounded by shops and great restaurants.. Transportation with tram from everywhere is possible..There are plenty of attractions near by including Madam Tusseud and museums..Also there are street artists where they perform different skills..The famous Red light district is about 200mts away..also its walking distance from the maim Central Station..plenty hotels, hostels arround..also shops of all kind..its a fun place to spend a few hours provided the weather is nice..You can always have a break and sit at the stairs to check arround or your map for next destination :)

This place is totally so close from each other. We started from Victoria. Walking 800m like 15m to the square. We absolutely see that it so close like from the left is the Nation Monument of the 2 World War, on the other side is the family of the Royals. It has been occupied by the brothers of the Napoleon in France 🇫🇷 15m here is more more more than enough. 5 minutes walking away is Red Light street. At 5pm we come there. Close by one canal and there is a like a corner to walk around :)

To be honest this monument is nothing special.. it is just an "obelisk", not even... Honestly, if you are planning to go visit this place specifically, do not bother... I would recommend going around Amsterdam center in general and if you do that, you will come across this sooner or later

A nice public space to have a cup of coffee and snacks, even though it's a little bit too crowded during summer time. The location is in the city center of Amsterdam.
