Westertoren is part of the historic Westerkerk (West Kerk) situated between Keizersgracht (canal) and Prinsengracht (canal) in Amsterdam. This is a beautifully designed tower that can be admired from the outside and climbed to enjoy views of the city centre. The tower was built in 1638 and is 85 metres tall, making it the the highest in the city. It is elegant with a steeple that resembles an Imperial Crown. You can enjoy views of Westertoren from either side of churh, along the canals, depending on the time of day and position of the sun. Just walk back around 50 metres or so from the church for good photograph spots. If you are interested in climbing Westertoren (€7.50 per person), opening hours are 10am to 8pm daily. Tours take place every 30 minutes and it is advisable to reserve in advance during peak summer months. Note: Westerkerk is next to the Anne Frank House, another important and popular attraction in Amsterdam. Considering the queues that regularly form, I'd suggest visiting Anne Frank first thing in the morning and then making your way to visit Westerkerk and climb Westertoren if this is something you are keen to do when visiting Amsterdam.

I can only speak about the climb up Westertorn since the church itself was closed, unfortunately. They happened to be filming a television show there that weekend so no visitors were allowed. Luckily, we were still able to climb the tower. The climb lasts about half an hour to go up and come back down. They start on every half hour, with the last tour leaving at 7:30 pm. There's a tour guide with you the whole time, who will teach you about the history of the tower itself. A tour costs 7 euros. You cannot purchase tickets online, but you can go early, buy your ticket, walk around the neighborhood, and then come back for your allotted time. This is what I would recommend. My boyfriend and I showed up at around 11, and the next available tour was for 1:30. This is most likely due to the fact that they do not let a lot of people up at a time (20 people per group). The view from the top is amazing. You get a sweeping view of Amsterdam and you'll get about 10 minutes to take all the pictures you want. It was a great experience and gives you a different perspective of the city.

I like a good tower climb and this had some bonuses, a guide, and nearly impossible ladders, the bell tower within the tower was interesting. You only get halfway up, but get to look across the city. Unfortunately, Amsterdam is full of pleasant buildings but nothing outstanding so the sights are pleasant rather than awe-inspiring.

If the weather is clear this bell tower offers stunning views of Amsterdam. There is a quick tour on the way up where you learn a bit about the history of the tower and church. Admission is €8 (accept credit card)

(Translated by Google) Go and have a look inside the Church itself, I come to Amsterdam so often that I should be ashamed. The Church will probably have a separate review. What can you say about a tower, except that I think it is very beautiful (Original) Toch maar eens in die Kerk zelf gaan kijken ,kom zo vaak in Amsterdam dat ik me eigenlijk moet schamen .Op de Kerk komt vast een aparte review. Wat moet je zeggen over een toren ,behalve dat ik m heel mooi vind

Extremely informative and entertaining tour of the tower's observation deck with stops on the lower floors. Duration: 30 min. The stairs are sometimes very narrow and steep because there is no oncoming traffic and you are traveling in a small group, but they are quite pleasant to climb. The view is magnificent.

It's a big tower. In front of it, there were couple of chairs under the shade of tree which was relieving for the tourists who were trying to hide from scorching heat.

(Translated by Google) It is one of the emblematic towers of the city with one of the best 360 ° views you can get in Amsterdam. If you want to climb you must take into account: 1) The climb is on foot and you must be in good physical condition to avoid drowning in the bell tower and be able to enjoy the calm view; 2) pay € 8 / person that costs admission (cash or credit card), just for the little look nothing more; 3) It was a claustrophobic experience due to the narrowness of the stairs, not suitable for people who suffer from this phobia or fear of heights, which is why, they only let a very limited number of tourists go up and down, since otherwise there is no possibility to get on and off groups of tourists at the same time. Of course, wonderful view but it is only worth doing it for one time and never again, because the truth is that I will not go up there again.
