Nice place to sit and chill by the monument and reflect on yourself, think of the people who sacrificed their lives to make it easy for people like us todayโ€ฆ

Understated monument that is easily missed. Great to know why oys here. The monument is dedicated to all the gays killed in the war by thr occupation forces and is next to Anne Frank House. There is a reason they are next to each other!

The idea behind it is very nice but monument itself is not very impressive. It is kept simple

Disappointing. The public urinal right next to it is deeply offensive. Cute little queer shop right nearby though.

Such a sweet monument to acknowledge all of the hate and violence that the LGBTQ community has dealt with. It also stands to keep awareness up so that it doesnโ€™t become common again.

I have been with my husband for 33 years, and we try to visit all the LGBT memorials around the world. Today, we visited here and laid flowers at the memorial. Definitely recommend a visit.

Place to visit if you're interested in LGBTQ+ rights/history. There isn't a lot to see or discuss but worth a look if you're in the area.

Could not help but being overwhelmed with emotion. For the women and men who helped me be able to be FREE to be me. Thank you

Very nice idea and touching message where they are posted. it is placed and designed on the canal where if you walk by there, you might pass it and not notice it. it would be a nice idea to put a sign where it will light up. I gave it 4 stars because of the public toilet, which is right next to it, and it smells very bad.

Really disappointing. Although the memorial itself is an important and powerful historical reminder, the fact that they decided to place public urinals right next to it is offensive and disgusting. The entire site smells so nauseatingly of urine that itโ€™s impossible to spend any time at the memorial at all. In addition to the stench of urine, there was trash all over the place when I went to visit and the site was depressing for all the wrong reasons.

Just nearby Westerkerk, like few-step stairs made by few triangles, maybe itโ€™s not too special but you can easily pass by and take a quick look. The scenery around is pretty.

Very small place but beautiful to have. Itโ€™s just a shame that the urinal is right next to it.

Tucked away behind construction and a newly installed foot bridge is an LGBTQ + memorial. Steps are steep and behave more like statism seating. Please mind the gap when visiting.

This hallow ground serves as a reminder and memorial to all lgbtqai+ who went before us. Many sacrificed all to love who they wanted to love. It also is a place where today, we can gather to remember friends and loved ones . Laying flowers - holding protests - defending lgbtqai+ issues in modern times! But last, and certainly not least... it is a huge dance hall where we can openly show and share our love out in the open! Celebrating the huge diversity and facets of our beautiful community- together!

Calm area. Across this site is a church!

Like the history it commemorates, this quietly elegant and understated monument is easy to overlook. That would be a mistake.

It is not only a beautiful, also really important memorial point. See what I did there..? The Homomonument starts at the front side of the Westerkerk, and ends in the canal. It has the shape of een triangel and is made of pink stone. The tip of the monument that lays in the canal, is often used as an memorial side for people that recently died within the community. That is why it is often filled with flowers and burning candels. This plateau is a few steps down from the street level to give it more peace and quite. It is a wonderful place to visit, but please be respectful. Throw away your trash, there is a trashbin a few meters away. Thank you

Soooo many people, but enjoyable boat ride in Venice of the North. Wish I couldโ€™ve spent a little longer there in September.

Multiple triangles triangulate on different levels. Interesting to experience. On the water-side one there are loads of flowers and cordulences. There is a leaflet on the near-by kiosk which explains a bit, but a proper signwould be great. I'd suggest to do a guided tour to tell more about the monument and what it stands for.

-Triangle on the water - indicates the National Monument dedicated to the events of the Second World War -A triangle at the level of 60 centimeters above the ground - indicates the office of the world's oldest LGBT organization, founded in 1946 -The third triangle at ground level indicates the house where Anna Frank was hiding. It has an inscription - "Naar Vriendschap Zulk een Mateloos Verlangen" ("Such an endless desire for friendship") ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

I could have been nice but it was covered with dead flowers and smelled like urine. Wish it was maintained better.

Great site with a lot of historical significance. Book a gay tour to learn all the details.

It's barely a monument. It's very sad this meaningful gesture is so poorly maintained. Don't visit.
