Muiderslot is a well maintained castle. A lot of the rooms and areas are restored to mimic their original condition. They have done a great job at making the tour interesting, interactive and a learning experience for all ages. Recommend to take the audio tour as you get a nice background story to each of the rooms and space of the castle. The garden is also nice to walk around on a nice sunny day.

Muiderslot Castle is a great place to admire a medieval structure and some gardens surrounding the castle. There is a ton of history within and around those walls. We enjoyed walking through the gardens and touring the castle as well. I was surprised just how much of the castle we were allowed to walk through - it really was great. The self-guided audio tour (offered in multiple languages) is helpful as well, offering quite a bit of information regarding the various rooms and spaces you'll walk through. Be aware that there are quite a few stairs to get around to the different floors. We really enjoyed spending a number of hours here, and the rest of the afternoon in the quaint surrounding town.

One of the most famous castles in the Netherlands, Muiden was built in 1280. The audio tour they give you relates to the history, architecture and stories behind the exhibits. The castle and the gardens are amazing. There is a small coffee and gift shop and restrooms are available. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Lovely castle, audio tour through the castle take approximately 90 minutes there are 2 tours indoor and outdoor. It is very simple you just follow the your way and play the audio recordings which are scanned with the little machine. Make sure you walk around the castle too there are gardens and tables to sit. Ticket can be purchased at the entrance or online they do accept the cash too. Attaching the pictures for reference. Enjoy 😉

Lovely castle with an incredibly rich and interesting history! The gardens were nice to look at as well. Definitely check out Muiderslot if you get the chance, but keep in mind that the free parking is a 15 minute walk from the castle.

A 700-year-old castle with stories about dungeons, tower defenses, armories, incredible feasts, medieval toilets, and more! We parked at the lot at the entrance and paid for 90 minutes, which was exactly the amount of time we needed. See my photo for parking rates. The self-guided audio tour was very informative. There are some steep, circular stairways in near darkness. Some rooms are empty while others are elaborately decorated. In the Tower Route, don't miss the tower defense area with the interactive game; You'll hear barking dogs and wonder where that's coming from! The free restrooms are very clean and modern. The cafe area has lockers for your items, a small gift shop, and food and drinks. The staff is very friendly and informative. Han spent time speaking with us about his fascinating heritage. Highly recommend a visit here!

Very beautiful and picturesque castle. There are two routes inside and both are interesting. Also there is a cafe and a toilet on the territory. I loved the interactive entertainments: you can wear the knight's armor and also there is a video game 😁 Museumcards are accepted.

The audio tour wasn't good. I just gave up because it was complex and started to just read the plaques. The castle itself was really well preserved. Everything inside was magic. Love it

Beautiful, charming, storybook castle. The displays and audio guide are great. We also took the ferry for just south of the castle to Pampus Forteiland. Both experiences we very good. We bought tickets in advance, but there weren't many people there on a weekday morning. We rented and rode bikes from Amsterdam, a whole other experience.

Muiderslot one of the oldest castle locate near a small but very beautiful town. The castle have nice cafe and often have some events. Check there website before coming to know more about events. In top of that it also offers camp stay for ~198 euro for two person, to have a mesmerizing night under the sky included with night campfire and morning breakfast. For a family it definitely a worth a visit, kids too will enjoy.

A wonderful peak into the past in this castle dating back to the 13th century. Audio tours are provided for free. Ideal for kids. You can even go ice skating in the gardens of the castle during winter months. Would recommend!

It's a really lovely castle. It's not so big but worth a visit. They also have a great park and plum garden where you can make a picnic and enjoy the nature. I also like the village near the castle. Definitely recommend especially if you have a museum card.

Absolutely beautiful site. Being built in the thirteenth century it's incredible how good the condition of this castle still is, you won't find many quite like it. Walking around the center courtyard and through the rooms you're easily taken back to the times where it was still in use. That, accompanied with an in-depth audio guide elaborating on the castle's rich history makes for some great insight of how people had lived here. Certainly recommend for anyone with an interest in history and medieval times.

Lovely place to spend the day with kids. Age 3-8 were interested and enjoyed the nice audio presentation by themselves. The surrounding is beautiful, and we spent at least 2 hours outside just running around. We also ate some veggie sandwiches in the restaurant near the castle. Finished the trip with a relaxed time in the castle gardens with a free activity for the kids - drawing the flower of the garden. Surprisingly they all played along and really enjoyed it.

Nice gardens with a large verity of plants from around the world. The actual castle was big (you would not want to fall in moat as didn’t look too clean) most rooms had some kind of explanation of the room or just some information and some nice views Plus a audio tour with 3 languages (English Dutch German) shop small but has interesting items like local honey and some old famous 20% alcohol drink (4 flavours) there’s also local free parking close by near a nice lake

There is a lot of history and a lot of walkable grounds to visit! There are stairs and can be steep for some individuals but highly recommend. When visiting this fort I recommend taking the full tour and visiting all the rooms. Helps to have a bit of imagination!

Visited today on a Sunday, it was b busy but not overcrowded and the weather was warm and sunny. I liked this place, entrance of €16.50 a person's a little high to walk the grounds but wife was free as she was in a wheelchair, and as I paid I did do the two walks around the castle so no regrets and will recommend in my tour guides. Parking is a little easy away with a lengthy walk but was nice along the canal and did get to see the bridge rotate to let through a couple big sailing vessels with very tall masts.

Interesting castle to experience the medieval life of Holland; climbing up the narrow brick staircase inside the castle towers is tough and gives you an appreciation of how the knights fought in defense of the castle

Well worth the short trip from Amsterdam to visit this well restored piece of local history. Larger than it seems, the various tour paths are supported by good audio guides. The grounds are worth walking, especially if like gardens. The bus from the local rail transfer lets you peek a bit into a different type of life in this part of the Netherlands.

A very enjoyable castle and general area. Audio tour is included in the ticket price, and the lady who hands them out is kind and helpful. It took us a bit under 2 hours to see everything and take a walk around the castle.

Castle location is beautiful. Came here by bike on a sunny day and the journey was lovely. You can visit inside + towers. Audioguide available for free with your ticket and entrance for free with museum card. You can also walk around the garden. Worth the visit!

I went because of the entrance fee was covered by the Go City Pass; in theory, transport is also covered by the Pass, but I wasn’t going in one of the days that the ferry was arranged for. Nevertheless, it was fairly easy to get from Amsterdam to Muiden by train and bus. I loved the architecture and the guides offered. I managed to cover the castle grounds and a bit of the gardens in an hour, as the buses to Weesp Train Station were hourly. This place is great because it can offer something for everyone: many children enjoyed the souvenirs and the castle, the elderly seemed to enjoy the cafe and the history lessons. Parents could also rest on the benches in the garden and watch their children spend their energy. Overall, fantastic opportunity for a little trip out of the business of Amsterdam.

Worth a visit. Great to see that Holland has its own castles. In a lovely area, very open. The great thing is that you can cycle from AMS city or even catch a train. It can get windy and cold. The castle itself is very well kept. Walk around the area as well.

Nice place & well maintained Medieval Castle. A relaxing 1 hour bike ride from central station. Would be better if there are more parking spaces for bikes.

Fantastic, super well preserved castle from the middle ages with a great excibition covering all aspects of the every day life of a fortress. Its garden is also worth a visit.

We went on a Monday, so only the castle was open. But it was perfect. It's a bit of a walk from the bus. Seashell paved walkways. Audio tours are free. Lots of narrow stairs. Lots of history, well laid out.

Muiderslot Castle, situated in the captivating landscapes of Belgium, is undeniably one of the most exquisite places I've had the pleasure to visit. From the moment I laid eyes on its majestic turrets and picturesque moat, I was transported to a fairytale realm of bygone eras. The meticulous preservation of its historic architecture, combined with the surrounding lush gardens, creates an ambiance that is truly enchanting. Exploring the interior is like stepping back in time, with each room revealing intricate details and stories of the past. The panoramic views from the castle's towers offer a breathtaking panorama that captures the essence of Belgium's natural beauty. Muiderslot Castle has effortlessly etched itself into my memory as a truly unforgettable and mesmerizing destination.

Muiderslot is a great little trip to the countryside beyond Amsterdam, well worth a morning excursion. We biked out along the dikes, and got free access with the iamsterdam card. There's a free audio guide that takes you on two different paths through the castle and explains the history and why certain things were designed the way they were, very informative. Nice bathrooms and a lush garden surrounding it as well. Overall a great little castle experience.

Amazing audio tour. Estimated time for full tour in the castle and gardens is about 3+ hours. We were asked to go out at 5 pm without excuses. Visiting during plum season would be like a medieval dream.

Highly recommended! The castle is located in a beautiful village with amazing trails all around it. We went with two kids (7,11) and the castle /museum is interactive enough and small enough to keep them both interested. We had the occasion to visit the place twice now and both times there were special activities for kids that were great and highly appreciated.

This is a nice day trip from Amsterdam. Touring the castle won't take too long. Maybe an hour if you do both audio tours. And you should do both audio tours. They are informative and add context to what you are seeing. It was fun to climb the spiral staircases into the towers and walk along the castle walls. The castle is in remarkable condition and looks like it's right out of a fairy tale. The garden and surrounding grounds are worth walking around as well. They had some outdoor game set up (tug of war, stilts) that families were enjoying. You can also walk through the castle's plum tree orchard. The fruit was just starting to grow on our visit. We rode over on the ferry from Amsterdam and we had time to walk into the nearby town of Muiden before the return time. It is definitely worth walking into town and it is only about 10 minutes from the castle down a pleasant brick road. We had a quick lunch along the locks where we watched boats sail by and listened as a men's choral group sang what seemed to be traditional Dutch songs. All-in-all this was a pleasant way to spend the day.

Definitely a MUST GO in the Netherlands. You should take half a day to appreciate the entire place and feel taken to the 13th-19th centuries. Attention to the audio guide with so much information and awesome curiosities. Incredible for all ages.

As castles go, it's alright. Nice view from the top and the top of the walls. The entry fee of 15.5 a person is quite pricy for what you get. 5-10 euro would feel much more reasonable. Careful when you go as the small size makes it easily crowded on weekends (apparently). The herbal garden is simple, but enjoyable to walk through with some lovely scents.

Nice little castle to visit with audio guided tour of the interior, as well as the exterior defense structures. There are also gardens and some info about Dutch water defense startegies available. A bit pricy for what is offered, but still worth a visit.

"Amsterdam Castle", as it's colloquially and erroneously know, is a pleasant place to spend an hour or two. Great for kids. Lots of stairs, so be prepared. The town, Muiden, is charming and offers a nice variety of food options.

Very nice place for family Sunday visit, preferably by bike from Amsterdam. The castle is very compact and offers some fun for kids and adults and good place to do picnic around. The garden looks very nice during summer season. The cakes in the cafeteria on the other hand are terrible and inedible so mau want to avoid this part.

Muiderslot is one of the most interesting castles in the Netherlands. It is located in a very quiet and beautiful, providing stunning visuals of the imposing medieval architecture. The interior area is also fantastic, with both narrow hidden passages and huge galleries. The price of 16,00 is worth.

Super place. The parking place can be accessed until the entrance of the castle. The castle is very beautifully maintained. There is a lot for the kids to explore and learn regarding the king that ruled during 1500. There are nice parks and walking paths around the castle where you can spend time with family in eating and drinking together. Ensure to walk through the little peaks from where you can enjoy the green and natural background of Muiden.

Great castle and surrounding garden and paths. Very interesting to see how the place was run and defended outside and in. Loads of cool little things to be seen all around the place. And an arcade game on the floor just above the drawbridge for kids and adults where you drop stones to stop the invaders from entering the castle.

From a tourist point of view, this was a very nice insight into middle ages. It was nice having a small trip in history and understand a little bit of people's lives from the castle. There are even small concerts with medieval atmosphere, so it feels truly authentic. It's bike friendly, so you can visit it during your stay in Amsterdam (takes about 40 min to 1 hour).

  • 4/5 Piotr L. 9 months ago on Google
Located just around 15 km away from Amsterdam beautiful castle. During season plants in garden are blooming, castle itself is quite unique and there is audio guide available in few languages for free. There are free parkings in a city itself only 15 minutes away from castle and if You use them You will have chance to walk through a quiet town on Your way there.
