Splendid museum with wonderful exhibits curated for people of all ages. Explanatory signs in many of the exhibits are very well done, and interactive activities for kids are well received. Great for introducing kids to biodiversity and for adults to appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

Fantastic museum for kids with many things to do, see and learn. The dinosaur collection is the best I have seen (better than the natural history museum in London). We all loved it, but make sure you reserve your spot on weekends as it gets really busy.

What a magnificent museum! The interior is absolutely breathtaking and the entire building is extremely well organised. Beyond all these superlatives is the fact that the museum is a dynamic and interactive learning school for children of all ages, as well as for adults. Highly recommended!

Not far from either Amesterdam or The Hague or even Rotterdam, this museum is a fascinating life nature museum that will definitely amuse you and your family. When you buy ticket in entrance you have no idea what fantastic tour you are signing for. I will argue that this museum is a must see landscape in Netherlands and sure enough its stunning architecture is icing on the cake,as well. Do not hesitate to visit there any time soon.

What a beautiful museum. I went there on a class trip and it was a great experience. I was really impressed with the interior, the animals and the different sections. They thought of everything and made it extra ordinary. I recommend this museum especially for history and animal lovers.

The building itself is a work of art and overwhelming outside and from the inside. The museum is beautifully laid out and designed. Very child friendly, but also interesting enough for adults. The “temptation“ part was my favourite, but the other parts are also very nice.

One of the most amazing museum experiences I have ever had. Highly recommended for young (age 7 and up the best I think) and grown ups. Every floor has a theme and it is all thought trough so nice (the music, vibes, attention span). It’s fun, learning and not boring at all! Photos don’t do it’s justice. Just make sure to see it yourself and make it a fun day in the beautiful city of Leiden.

Naturalis Museum in Leiden is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and biodiversity. The museum showcases numerous specimens from plants, animals, fossils, minerals, and more. The highlight of the museum is the dinosaur exhibit, where you can see the impressive skeleton of Trix, a 66-million-year-old T. rex, as well as other ancient creatures. The exhibit is very informative and interactive, and you can learn about the evolution, behavior, and extinction of these magnificent animals. The museum also has other exhibitions that explore different aspects of life on Earth, such as the origin of life, the ice age, and the human impact. Naturalis Museum is a great place to discover and appreciate the richness and diversity of nature

Very pretty and educational museum! No matter you are adults or kids, you will get a lot of fun and knowledge here! The museum sets many interaction parts, from which you will learn easily. If you have children who are from primary school to junior school, it will be an ideal place to go during weekend!

We just came out of the museum and I cannot recommend it enough! It was really a great experience. The museum is located in a wonderful building which is modern and in line with the overall experience. There are a lot of interactive exhibitions which makes it great for both children and adults. The area dedicated to dinosaurs is relatively small but the full skeletons are impressive. We also bought the extra T-rexperience and it was a nice addition to a pleasant day. Definitely a recommended visit in Leiden!

My overall experience in Naturalis was amazing. I had a great time discovering the incredible world around us and the history of life on earth and the diversity of living/lived creatures. The building is extremely beautiful and there is a lot to see. However, as a person who would like to discover science and history in more detail, I felt the amount of information and descriptions of what we see are not complete, and even sometimes miss crucial points. Or the chronological order of the objects wasn't clear. I guess the target group are children so the descriptions and information are on the minimum side. Moreover, the very beginning section of the museum, for instance, is dedicated to the topic of "life" and there is a huge hall full of animals, from tigers to elephants, and from snakes to butterflies but the way they are presented is very random! You might see a camel next to a buffalo while the habitats of each of them are so far away from each other. Completely random! Not based on regions on earth, not based on what they eat. Just randomly put together with literally no information! Here is a monkey, and here is a lizard and let's move on! That's it! On the other hand, nowadays museums are becoming more and more interactive using technology. I felt Naturalis has still so much potential to go far beyond using technology, videos, audios, holographic images, etc. To my feeling, this museum is a nice place for children and youngers to come and see the diversity of life on earth. But I had more expectations from such a great museum with such an incredible topic: Nature and Life

Certainly a pretty museum to visit, with captivating exhibits. However, you don't learn much since there is very little information provided (in the animal exhibits). It was also insanely crowded on a random Tuesday, which made it hard to enjoy. Probably wouldn't visit again.

Amazing exhibits and a wonderful building. The place is very kid friendly and a lot of the exhibits also have an interactive component for the kids. A must visit if you have kids, or for adults who love the natural sciences. If i have to nit-pick, the food at the restaurant is not the most delicious.

Definitely one of the best museums around! The information and exhibits are beautifully curated. If you’re into the natural world, you could end up spending hours here. Lots of great dinosaur exhibits as well which is pretty uncommon. Good for 1-2 hours depending on how detailed you go into. Wifi available as well.

Staying locally at Duinrell we were aware of an impending rainy day so planned ahead and booked up the museum. WOW! Whilst not cheap (€70 for a family of 4 plus the additional ‘Rexperience’), if nature is a passion you are in for an absolute treat. Even if you aren’t a keen naturalist I would be amazed if you did not find at least a few things that grab your attention. On the lowest floor is a lab where we interacted with conservators performing a live taxidermy of a buzzard. We also spoke with a palaeontologist recently returned from Wyoming who was slowly cleaning the fossilised frill from a triceratops that he had helped unearth. All staff were more than happy to chat and clearly loved their jobs. They also spoke to us in English which made us feel fully included in the experience. It was then off to the ‘Rexperience’ (an add on to the entry price) which took us back millions of years to come face to face with a living and breathing mother T-Rex (as real an animatronic as you will ever see). Moving on the museum explores life from its beginnings to end with each floor exploring a different aspect of the natural world. Death, courtship, human evolution, ice age, dinosaurs - it really has it all. Our visit lasted 3 hours and we could have stayed even longer but closing time meant we had to cut things short. Visiting with a 6 and 10 year old I can say that each were involved in all exhibits and at no point lost interest. For me the hall of taxidermy animals was quite overwhelming as it provided an insight into rapidly declining ecosystems and endangered species. There were no dioramas, just the incredible diversity of animals to marvel at. I felt saddened that for many in the future this might be the only opportunity to see some of the creatures that once inhabited the world they live in. I will return one day to spend even more time and will recommend a visit to everyone and anyone that I know is visiting the area. As an aside the building itself is really quite something. I still haven’t figured out how the main atrium is supported and does not simply fall onto the heads of visitors. A must see attraction and a definite for a family with children. Don’t just save it for a rainy day, stick it on your ‘things to do’ list when visiting Holland.

Amazing museum with something for everyone. Loved the dinosaur exhibition and all the interactive things that are on offer. It was getting quite busy, but if you prefer less people around, it seems to be better early in the morning.

This museum is fantastic and shows the diversity and beauty of our earth, its wonders, natural resources and inhabitants. From birth to death, many different elements are covered with a scientific basis underneath everything. You are entertained and educated at the same time. The museum is huge, modern and the exposition is super nicely set up. It takes you on a wonderful highly interactive journey and keeps you busy and engaged for many hours. Highly recommended for both adults and children as of age 4 and above. They accept the Museum Card which gives you free entry. The building itself is a wonderful piece of architecture as well.

Visited with children aged 3, 9 and 11 and all children plus adults had a great time. Could spend hours here, we stayed until it closed and we had to leave after around 3 hours. You can pay in advance but there doesn't seem to be any benefit to doing so as it's the same price and it was not busy on our visit. Similarly no benefit for using the self service machine which kept failing to take payment when we did try. The car park is €7.50 which is reasonable compared to other car parks and you can stay until 8pm. Once done in the museum central bars and restaurants are around 10-15 minutes walk away so that's a good option. The T-Rex experience is an extra €2 each and that's probably about the right price. It is all in Dutch but you can get the gist of what's going on if you don't understand it, it's a mix of 3D viewing with moving seats and then some live motion (I won't spoil it). It might seem a little expensive to some but it's worth it. Beautiful building too!

Nice museum. Very good for families as well. There are many things to do and see, and children can stay motivated and excited for many hours. Coffee shop is very expensive though and has very limited choices. Good if you have a museum card, then you don't need to pay.

A museum suitable for kids and adults who have curiosity for nature and evolution. They have a complete skeleton of a T-Rex. You can see many different fossils from different animals of different eras. Very educational and fun. Their souvenir shop is also very interesting, with some fossils, meteorite, rare stones on sale. Defiantly had fun here.

I had giant anticipations before visiting here.... just as my high hopes for The Killer, or Barbie... The center houses sooo soo so many specimen of every possible animal that you could think of. But the problem is that its very difficult to tell which is which based on the info boards that come with incredibly tiny font size and ridiculously vague color, and the labeling system is also a huge mess (see the last picture). Its really a shame to make it this difficult for visitors to learn/know when the collections are this impressive.

Best museum in Netherlands. Had a fun day with the family. Great collection of exhibits and so much to learn and see for the kids & adults. Rexperience is Ok. The staff are friendly. Excellent facilities like food place, bathrooms are available on each floor of the museum. The architecture is awesome. They have the biggest T-Rex. The animal display section is great. The minerals is also great. The view from top is ok. Easily accessible for everyone. Close to station.

Very nice museum! Kids can learn a lot (and adults too) the first bit is a bit busy, because it’s a one way narrow passage through. After that it’s more free roaming in the different expositions. Awesome to see Trixie in real life. Try to get in early, so there is enough parking. Enjoy!

Amazing museum! The visit definitely takes up whole day, so come early. Great experience for all children with lots of interactive exhibits. You can even ask the scientists on site all of your questions! The museum's restaurant also has a great selection of food and beverages. Prices are reasonable.

A very nice museum with lots of information about the nature. It’s very big and you need to have enough time/energy to see all of them. The minus point is that they have 9 floors but with only two small lifts( and are reserved for people with immobilities). I really don’t know why they designed it this way because most visitors are a family with young kids. They should give all the visitors the options to go up or down with lifts.

It a great place to visit with kids. We spent over 4 hours and still were not able to complete. 'll definitely re-visit. Kids activity room, where they can check the real fossils and compare with the cow skeleton was fun thing to do. Staff was friendly and very responsive to the queries we had.

It is actually one of the most awesome natural museum I have ever been to. You can expose yourself deeply into all the delicate and high-tech models, yet extremely vivid. What’s more, it is a good platform to absorb some natural knowledge and feel the charm of history. It is better to plan half a day to fee the whole exhibition building.

The museum is absolutely great! It really has a wow factor, especially when you see all the animals. The staff is extremely informative and nice. I was however shocked when I arrived with the kids in the restaurant. The prices there are just extreme. Not funny at all to go there with 3 kids. I would sincerely suggest to bring your own food & drinks while visiting this amazing museum!

don’t miss it! it’s one place to experience the breadth of wild species in real life size and feel them close. The prehistoric Netherlands is showcased with wonderful interactive concepts. The show stopper though is T-Rex and prehistoric Mammoth life size skeletons. Also there is short T-Rex show, experiencing the life size T-rex model moving close towards you, out in deep forrest will leave you stunned.

Really reccomended! One of the best museums in the Netherlands, both for kids and adults, never tired to go back there. The employees are super enthusiastic and explain things in a very clear and passionate way. If you go by car, there is a payed parking lot, just add it to your budget for the day (7.50 euro) or go by public transport.

This place is so much fun! Many hours of touring to do. I highly recommend paying the extra two euros for the rexperience! The only minus is, that the food courts were closed and there weren’t any visible opening times, so be ready to pack some snacks with you! I can imagine Naturalis being a good experience for children as well. We would have liked to learn more on the first/second floor about the animals. An audio guide would also be nice!

  • 4/5 Anca S. 8 months ago on Google
It was nice, but seen how big the space it, I would have loved to see more interactive things for kids. When it is full, it gets a bit hard to enjoy. But some things are creative and fun for kids. So i would recommend it if you are around, but it was a bit disappointing for an hour and a half travel.

  • 5/5 Madan A. 1 year ago on Google
Every floor has something awesome to offer. Life, evolution, death, attraction. Not to mention the marvellous building itself both inside and out. Gives you the impression you are climbing up a mountain. It's best place to get kids for a wholesome experience of life science. Along with multitude of taxonomy, original fossils. At this museum lies the important scientific evidence for the linkage of human evolution(Home erectus) by the Dutch paleoanthropology - Marie Eugène François Thomas Dubios. The Attraction section is particularly intriguing even to most adults. As I saw the ooo and ahh from grownups. There were some spots of the museum like the Evolution section that could've been curated a little coherently. Maybe with an overarching story or connecting the exhibits a little better.

  • 5/5 Reinier B. 1 year ago on Google
It is Naturalis, what do you expect? ;) Excellent exhibits regarding any biodiversity related which are also super informative, and (aesthetically) engaging for all age categories. All staff (both volunteers as the scientific staff) super helpful if you have any questions.

  • 4/5 Kamil C. 11 months ago on Google
It's quite a big museum. Some parts are well thought and well designed. Especially the Dino part is a must-see. On the other hand, l some parts are a bit weak with some screen plays, plastics etc.

  • 5/5 Ana B. 2 years ago on Google
Very impressive to see all the dinosaur bones and to walk in an immersive experience around the different fauna. If you use the museum card this visit during a rainy day is a must. The staff of the museum was very friendly and as usual in the Netherlands, you could use the lockers for free. Not to mention that the building itself is ver special.

  • 5/5 Bartosz A. 1 year ago on Google
The modern building of museum is really impressive. A lot of people inside but also a lot of space so it didn't bother us that much. For kids it was a great experience to have possibilities to see and touch all of interesting exhibits. Higher floors were the most gripping for us. I was delighted with the educational material on reproduction, and it will surely be remembered by my children.
