Went here with the social deal discount. Not too big, not too small. Fun to make the trip down memory lane. Friendly staff. The discovery tour for kids with the mice is a bit messy. Mice are missing, many objects when found do not have the answer to the question to be found anywhere. Idea is nice though. Hope they will fix it. The Lego exhibition is nice to see. Kids love to build something with Lego and get rewarded with a true Lego buildmaster diploma. Free parking at the Nieuwe Wal is nice. Only a short 15 minute walk from there to the museum or you can take the free shuttle that departs every 20 minutes. Against what their website states, do not call them at the 06 number mentioned on their website to inquire for the shuttle as that will lead to a guy getting cranky at you for calling him. The shuttle will keep going back and forth. No need to call. Worth visiting!

The exhibition is organized by decades so you can see the progress made over time. It covers many aspects from daily life up to politics and pop culture. You can see there ads from every era showing pretty well what people were shopping for. Large section is devoted to toys. Next to permanent exhibition there was a temporary one focused on DDR. Pretty interesting too.

Take a trip down memory lane and see all the stuff you forgot you had, your parents had, your grandma had .. An enjoyable hour or two can be spent here. Location is also nice.

Cool museum not just for the general history look into households over the last 100 years but also the awesome Lego exposition and ability to interact for kids (and adults).

I liked it but then I lived through half of the 20th century. Great to see all the old household goods again. And glad that we have so many better things now.

Nice museum that will bring you back to memory lane. Kids will love it also. It will take around 2 hours to visit. There is a small cafe inside and many restaurants in the area. The parking is a bit far (approx 10min walk) but they also have free shuttles.

Small but packed. The building has an interesting prison history. A great excuse for a visit down a harbour with some interesting boats. The lego exhibition a surprising bonus.

Small but cute museum focused on showcasing the everyday life of people in the 20th century. I was worried that it would show a lot about wars, but this topic was not shown in much detail, and a lot more attention was given to the toys, cutlery and baby items. The section with old TVs, phones and audio equipment is especially fun for older kids. Captions are in Dutch only, but there is a free audio guide in English (tbc). Kids also get a little "find this object" quest. There are several interactive stations, and even a couple of working arcade games! Suitable for kids from about 4-5 years of age. You can see the entire museum in about 2 hours.

Schönes Museum. Dort werden Kindheitserinnerungen wach. Eine Lego Spiel Ecke, ein Kaffee sowie ein Souvenir Shop sind auch vor Ort.

We got a tip from a colleague this museum has a temporal exhibition of Lego. And since we're Lego fans we came right a way. The museum is little but there's enough to see and to do for the kids. Kids can choose between 2 type of treasure hunts (depending on their age) and they have even a little restaurant where you can grab a lunch while the kids can play with Lego :). A nice place to go with the whole family since young til old. For the older people is quite funny to see all those stuff they had.. or even had, or just saw on their parents or grandparents houses. Quite funny.

Definitely worth a visit on a rainy day, the Lego exhibition was great for visitors of all ages. Some displays of old toys/books lacking commentary, including on some racist depictions of minorities which was very disappointing.

Really enjoyed seeing through the ages but the lego expositions was out of this world, I didn't know that there was so much to know about lego

Really nice! What a treat to go back in time and look at life during different periods in the 20th century. The museum has a wide variety of displays of homes, classrooms and stores from different eras. Everything is kept in perfect condition and displayed in a beautiful manner. They accept the museum kaart so if you have one, there’s really no excuse not to go.

For people who are old enough it will be a trip down memory lane. For younger people history will come to life. Looking back to the 20th century (emphasis on second half, after WW II), this period is presented in a series of rooms, furnished in the styles of the decades: sober forties and fifties and the colourful sixties and seventies. A lot of information about events, news and way of living. Also rebuilt shops from the old days. The depot is open, so all kinds of objects including toys and devices are visible, with information added.

O.a. 261 mensen die in 1...

👍👍 CUSTOM DESIGNED TOUR. I randomly found Alette Dirkse on the internet when I was looking for someone to guide my family through the north end of North Holland. Having traced my roots back to the 1500s, we were on an ancestral tour of the Netherlands & Amsterdam was our "home base". Taking the train...
