The Zuiderkerk ("southern church") is a 17th-century Protestant church in the Nieuwmarkt area of Amsterdam. It has a very distinctive and richly detailed church tower. Constructed in 1611, it's the city's first Protestant church however because of its poor condition and near collapsing, it was closed in 1970 but then renovated in the late 1970s and today serves as a municipal information centre and events venue. It's in a great location with lots of things to see and do here including the nearby Anne Frank House and Rembrandt House Museum, as well as the ARTIS zoo park.

The Zuiderkerk was the city's first church built specifically for Protestant services. It was constructed at the start of the 17th century. The church had special meaning for the painter Rembrandt. Three of Rembrandt's children were buried in the Zuiderkerk and one of Rembrandt's most famous pupils, was buried in the Zuiderkerk in 1680. Definitely worth the visit when going from the Nieuwmarkt to Waterlooplein Market

The Zuiderkerk, or South Church, is a historic church located in the southern part of the city center of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Here are some key points about the Zuiderkerk: 1. **Architectural Significance:** The Zuiderkerk is one of Amsterdam's most distinctive churches, known for its Renaissance-style architecture. It was designed by the renowned Dutch architect Hendrick de Keyser. 2. **Construction:** The church was constructed between 1603 and 1611. Its tower, which offers panoramic views of Amsterdam, was added later in 1614. 3. **Function:** Originally built as a Protestant church, the Zuiderkerk served as a place of worship for the local community. 4. **Interior and Art:** The interior of the church features a classic Dutch Protestant design. Notable artworks, including an organ built by renowned organ builder Christian Vater, contribute to the church's cultural and historical significance. 5. **Location:** The Zuiderkerk is situated in the Nieuwmarkt area, near the Amstel River and within walking distance of popular Amsterdam attractions. 6. **Cultural Events:** Today, the Zuiderkerk is no longer used as a church for regular services. However, it is often used for cultural events, concerts, and exhibitions. I myself went to an Ukranian Concert

Beautiful venue for events, high ceilings. I was there at a Fashion show. Don’t know if it is generally open but for rent for events must be great.

Sing for Ukraine benefit concert with Makeivka ansambel to raise money to support the Ukrainian military forces. The concwert wasn't amazing but the action is very important, as Ukraine struggels now with an unprecdented level of distruction and violnce inflicted by the Russian occupying army..

The old church became a venue for conferences and concerts! Learning new things and visiting one of the oldest area of Amsterdam at the same time! This place is beautiful and huge to hold big conferences with a lot of attendees.

Nice location and beatuful building (a former church). I attended an event for some industry awards and altough the setting was nice, drinks were not well stocked and food was nicely presented but below average quality and in small rations.

Massive former church… worth a look around from the outside… may have an interesting exhibition going on inside when you visit..

Fun place for a catered event. Hard to find the entrance, as Google maps takes you to the wrong side of the building. The entrance is near the Metro station.

Climb the tower and admire the views over Amsterdam. The climb to the tower is done with a local guide that explains the history of the church and the surroundings. A must do in Amsterdam since all other church towers are currently closed to visitors

Beautiful evening light against the blue interiors in the summer. We were there for a concert, and it was a wonderful venue. Would love to go again as a tourist.

Beautiful church in the centre of Amsterdam around 15 minutes walking from Amsterdam Central station. A nice place to be used for an event such as a concert. I went there this evening to attend Mirabai Ceiba in concert. It was beautiful and magic. The church itself is beautiful, in a nice, somewhat secluded area in the midst of a very lively neighbourhood. The constructions inside however (there to make the space usable for events, I presume) spoil the atmosphere: I'm quite disappointed that it wasn't done in a more modest, "invisible" way. Still, it's better than having it converted into an appartment building.

The Zuiderkerk ("southern church") is a 17th-century Protestant church in the Nieuwmarkt area of Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. The church played an important part in the life of Rembrandt and was the subject of a painting by Claude Monet.[1] The church is open to the public and currently serves as a municipal information center with exhibitions on housing and the environment.
