😠 The location is very good. However, the cleanliness leaves something to be desired. The bedsheets had red stains and were far too big for the bed. In addition, the shower, which was also a toilet, was clogged with hair. Rather bad for the price of a one room. Maybe the price performance is better in... The location of this hostel was near perfect, happy Gilmore could hit a golf ball from central station and hit our window. Check in was as smooth as running your hand over a pebble dashed wall but we got there and then took the steep ascent up 17 (4) stories to reach our humble room. The room itself was fair, it offers a view that will offend your eyes due to the building site below so opt to keep the curtains closed and be sure to layer up because just like Ukraine with Russia you will be stuck together with the cold whether you like it or not, you have one heater with about as much life in it as the Queen, it’s like trying to heat Canada with a hairdryer. It served its purpose nonetheless.

Good price for an accommodation in Amsterdam centre. The staff was very friendly and the rooms are very nice. Definitely one of the better hostels I've stayed. I recommend it! :)

One thing I love about this hostel is that it is pretty close to city center and the price is really affordable. Rooms are nice and clean but if you have a large luggage, it'll not be easy to go up these Dutch stairs. I wish the check-in time could be earlier.

I was amazed at how unhelpful this hostel was. Their customer service is disappointing and poor. Only interested in their money. I accidentally booked the wrong date, ie. the wrong month! I booked it at 9pm the night of the booking (a month early! - put in a 5 for the month, not a 6!). I woke to find out I’d been a no show and was charged the full amount - less than 8 hours after making an erroneous booking. I contacted them straight away and they refused to give me a credit for the night I actually wanted to stay. Obviously their money is more important than the back packing community. A stupid mistake to make by me but I did’t in any way stop them from getting their night’s booking as there were plenty of available beds. Unbelievable and unkind customer service. Stay somewhere with better morals and kindness. I thought humans were more understanding - not these guys, they just want your money!!!!

A very terrible experience, to say the least. First of all, the cold reception, along with suddenly being informed I need to deposit an amount of cash, to which I just presented what I had in cash and the receptionist took a couple bills at random. I booked for two nights, and found my room having two very small bathrooms for a room with 14 people, as well as terrible safety conditions. There were lockers for storing things, but they were too few, too small, and I didn't receive a lock in the first place! I had to resort to putting my stuff under the bed and hope none of the strangers I sleep with take anything. Upon leaving, I was informed I am not owed my deposit back, because I'm late to check out by half an hour. I explained that none of that was said to me and I did not know, otherwise I would make sure to be on time, but they wouldn't listen. They insisted someone told me when I checked in, even though no such thing happened. On top of being led to another building than I thought I would sleep in and given poor guidance instructions on how to reach building number two. I believe I got a really bad deal out of this hostel and I recommend looking for something that actually delivers what it promises and doesn't try to scam the littlest amount out of confusing its residents. Stay away, it's absolutely not worth the money.

In the past known as BOBS YOUTH HOSTEL, it is not good compared to what is available in Europe for the price. The sheets had some kind of mite or parasite, everyone in the room woke up with bites on legs and arms, no towel, the stairs are very uncomfortable to climb to any floor with or without luggage, the lockers are outside the room so you have to go in and out if you forget to put something away or want to bring something.

Cant really say I enjoyed my stay here. The bathrooms need some serious ventilation installed. They smell of wet damp mold. Its really hard to shower because theres no where to put your stuff down or hang your towel… and stepping out of the bathroom in just my towel in-front of a room filled mostly of middle aged men is not something I wanted to do. As a young female travel, I felt uncomfortable with a lot of the other guests in my room. Yes you might ask “why book a mixed person dorm?” I have no issue staying with mixed guests, but this hostel seems to attract a lot of older men… a lot who didn’t really make me feel comfortable and who come off super creepy. The man in the bed underneath me also stunk of weed. Dont know if he was smoking it or just had it on him but it was SO strong and made me feel unwell. I know this is a legal thing in the Netherlands but there should be a policy not to do it in the hostel as a courtesy to other guests… Following on from that there was a man who would just down a whole bottle of wine every night and sit in his bed and just awkwardly make eye contact with everyone. Dunno it was just a bit odd Also think the 5€ luggage hold is a bit of a rip off considering I was a guest. Only pros I can think of is the bed was relatively comfortable and the hostel is in a pretty good location. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Stayed 3 nights in this hostel and it was an awful experience. The only advantage is that its close to Centraal Station. 1) Wifi doesn’t work at all in the rooms. 2) Washroom doesn’t have Matts and the floor remains wet. 3) Was miscommunicated about the availability of lockers in our rooms which they arranged after a lot of requests.

The worst hostel I have ever been in my life. We rented the whole room (of 6 people) we only received one key because otherwise we were charged 10€ per key. We also wanted to keep our luggage a couple of hours after check out and they wanted to charge us 5€ for each luggage. Also the receptionist wasn’t at all friendly. In conclusion, I wouldn’t recommend it

The only thing that works for Xplore is the central location. When it comes to service the hostel is very poor. Firstly the shared rooms are up a steep flight of stairs, secondly they have a luggage room at the reception which is guarded by the very rude reception staff who charge £5 a day to keep your luggage even if you are a hotel guest, even if you check out and have a few hours to leave the city and need a place to keep the luggage and most ridiculously every time you need to access YOUR luggage. Two girls who work at the reception, especially one with purple hair are both really rude and demanded our names and checked details everytime we tried to access the reception toilet even though we had guest keys. The hotel claims to be smoke free but a couple of people were awake all night smoking in the 5 person room and on complaint to the hotel no action was taken until the very next day when they offered a room change to an 8 bed which would be a downgrade without offering to refund the difference. I would think twice before booking here.

A big thank you to the cleaning lady who came to clean the room at 9:30 and was talking very loudly on her phone. Seven clients were sleeping, but she didn’t seem to care. Excellent location, but the rooms lack storage and furniture. 588€ (3 persons) for 3 nights is expensive for a dormitory of 10.

Overall a nice place to stay! The location is great to everything. We stayed in a private 2 person room with a private bathroom. Everything was clean and you have just what you need. The desk staff was great and informative. Definitely recommend for a decent price to stay.

Absolute Dive of a place. Do not bother unless you hate sleep. After 1am the nightshift man screams in your face and you have to beg to get back in. Covered in bites after 2 nights. Deposits for this deposits for that. Been to Amsterdam 14 times this is by far the worst experience ever there.

The beds in the room were just bit to soft for all us in the rooms. The location is perfect just outside the main busy city bar is cheap under the hostel. Much nicer then the price in main street

Good place for one or two nights, not really any amenities for more than that. Clean, centrally located, female dorm was good. Only issue is that everything is extra, including towels, and only some lockers work (but bring your own lock).

I have stayed here 3 or 4 times now. And always had a positive experience. The rooms are spacious and kept clean. There are lockers in every room for security. The bedsheets are always clean, fresh, and soft. All rooms have good heating. The showers have good water pressure and stay hot. It is in a great location, near to transport, shops, attractions, bars/restaurants. And the staff are always friendly and helpful.

It really felt like the Ryanair of the hostel, basic and functional, not that it is a big problem but you just have to be careful. Towels, locks, earplugs are all extra. Storage of luggage is free before check in but 5€ after check out. Checking out after 10:30am will occur a 10€ charge. Overall, it was a decent experience, nothing memorable. Downsides are there are no common room, only the reception area. There are 2 buildings, I stayed in the other building and in that building, there is no common areas at all.

A perfect location! The receptionists are very kind and helpful! The rooms are clean and comfortable. Definitely a recommendation for young travellers!

  • 4/5 Caitlin M. 1 year ago on Google
Basic rooms with everything you could need. We opted for a 4 bed room with shared bathroom as we were a group of 4 and this was great for us. A couple of things you have to pay cash deposit for at checkin I.e. room keys (€10 for 2 keys) which we didn't notice before we got there but not an issue. A vending machine in reception and snacks available for a small fee if you ask staff. We had a room right at the front of the building by a communal door which was noisey at times, and could hear people outside sometimes too. There are currently building works on the street outside which makes it a bit bumpy under foot - challenging if you have a bigger suitcase! But overall, a great price, great location and staff were very helpful. Would go back again for a trip with friends.

Great location with an accurate description from the hostel. It is up some very steep steps! It is everything you'd want in a basic hostel, I have no complaints

We went there over kingsday (3d) and payed over 2k for 2 small rooms. The rooms were not clean, the shower drain was plugged, and the floor stinked horrible. For luggage store the day we left they charged over 20Euros!! Complete ripoff!

If you're gonna be in Amsterdam, you have to stay somewhere, I guess. However, this hostel is not one I can recommend for a variety of reasons. They're thus far one of the more expensive hostels I've been to even for a 6-person dorm. Xplore clearly cares a lot more about money than the client's experience; here are some examples -Again a rather expensive stay for a dorm in a hostel -Towel rent is 2 euros for "cleaning costs", which they seem to be able to handle the cleaning costs of sheets just fine. -They advertise free wifi. Your phone will be able to connect to the wifi in the rooms but it will be "connected without internet" the whole time. I complained twice about this without resolution. The lack of a laundry facility is also rather inconvenient. If you're trying to backpack/interrail Europe and staying in Amsterdam, maybe stay somewhere else.

location is a 7 to 10 mins short walk from Amsterdam Central, check in receptionist was ok , bunk bed was clean and toilets are good. Overall decent stay

I really enjoyed my stay in this hostel. They have a luggage room to store your luggage when you arrive earlier. A nice cozy lobby with free wifi to just chill there. Clean beds. Shower and toilet in the room. And very friendly staff who are willing to help you with anything. Only downside were the stairs.. however you will experience the real Amsterdam experience with this! Definitely recommend this budget-friendly hostel in the center of Amsterdam!

Good hostel, in good location. Staffs are very friendly. Cost is decent. Plus points for taking care of the linens.

  • 2/5 Chloe M. 9 months ago on Google
Worst part is the advertised free wifi didn't work at all, not to mention bad reception in the building as well. Asked them for help with wifi multiple times, but nothing came of it. The wifi in the lobby works at least. The quality of the beds is terrible. Hope you're ok sleeping on a brick. Best part is location, but that's not saying much since everywhere is walkable anyway. Our room was spacious enough and didn't have too many beds to the room, but had small storage lockers, could only fit relatively small things.

  • 3/5 Levi G. 1 year ago on Google
Nice hostel but lacked any communal vibe. The showers and toilets within the rooms were very nice but the hallways and stairs were extremely narrow and there was a guest (I think or it could have been someone who entered the building unauthorized) that continued to harrass me throughout my stay. The common room was very small. The actual location of the hostel was nice.

Very central, perfect for shopping. We had a good experience and the rooms were very clean. Our room was bigger than in the picture. Didn't need to bring shower gel or shampoo because it was already there. The bathroom looked very modern and clean. The Lobby looked nice and you can get free coffee and tea in the morning. In the Lobby there is also a fridge for cooling your drinks. There was enough space in the luggage room. All Covid-19 rules were followed. The stuff members are friendly and helpful. I will definitely recommend this hostel to my friends and will come here again, thank you.

Book in booking.com , they asked us to book in their website for cheaper prices but they're same. In Reception people take forever to receive one guest. No shampoos and towels. The heating was broken and it was very warm whole night, the guy at reception said sorry i can't do anything.

I love the staff members! The gentleman and the lady were such great help to me when I checked in! I had booked a bed in a mixed-bed room with a bathroom (shower and toilet separate). It was clean which is also probably thanks to my room mates😃. So yep, quite affordable and right in the city centre. Just don't forget that the hostel doesn't have a kitchen!

  • 5/5 Rafael V. 2 years ago on Google
Stayed here for a night! My bed was on third floor and i shared a room with other 9 peoples. The place was very clean and bathroom too! I really like when hostel divide the place where you take a shower, but i feel like they could divide the place you brush teeths from the place where you take a shower. The staff was amazing, i forgott my glasses on room and realized 40 minutes after my checkout so i come back to the hostel explain the situation and they helped me to recovery my glasses! Its worth all the 21 + 3 euros a payed, one of the best localizations on the city, you can do everything by your own foot!

Xplore Review I’ve been staying in hostels travelling Europe for the past 4 months- and this one is the worst yet. The only good thing was the location. No place to do laundry, no common area to chill (not good to meet people), no lifts (very steep flights stairs), the building of the actual accomodation was not the same as reception, the beds were squeaky and uncomfortable- and there was little space and security in the rooms. No aircon, No kitchen, weak wifi. The receptionist was very bad at communicating with me when I had issues prior to the booking- the only time I’ve needed to complain about staying in as hotel. please book elsewhere!

  • 4/5 Julia B. 1 year ago on Google
Perfect location!!!! Exactly what we needed. There are coffeeshops and grocery stores right on the same street. Right around the city center. And the fact that you can sit in the lobby with some tea or coffee to relax at night with a friend is so convenient. Only thing I did not appreciate is that I paid for a 6 person room, but when I showed up was told the 6 person room didn't exist anymore so I would be in an 8 person room. I was told that I had received an email in advance about this but that is entirely false. I also did not receive any compensation despite the fact that my room was downgraded.

hostel with too many people, some confusion. in general I was well taken care of, the location is good and close to Amsterdam central station, the prices are too high for the quality of the facilities. grade between 2/3

  • 2/5 elmina k. 1 year ago on Google
I would recommend this hostel if you are on a budget and have to be close to the central station. Even though it wasn’t super cheap it was cheap comparing to other hostels close. The room was okay but it had an awful smell which was not very nice. It was not very structured when we were checking in and got told not to wait in a line and then we had to wait superlong. Also when we got our card it didn’t work so we had to go back to the lobby which was in another house. I hope you make up a better system for checking in and out because it seemed pretty stressful and it was a bit annoying for us to wait longer than we shoulve.

  • 1/5 Taylor A. 1 year ago on Google
If you show up after check in time and even let them know you will be arriving after check in time, expect horrible and rude behavior from the front desk. Passive aggressive energy and the last thing you need after a long day of traveling. The room smelled of mold and sheets had some stains and hair on them. Sure it’s a hostel but bare minimum hospitality should be met.

  • 3/5 Jorge Esteban De Mesa A. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent location, but the lockers in the room doesn't have lock, if you need to left your bags after the check out, you will to pay 5€ per bag, 588€ (3 persons) for 3 nights is expensive for a dormitory of 10.

  • 5/5 Y W. 1 year ago on Google
We had such a nice stay. Top location, super friendly and helpful staff. The building and rooms were exactly as how we expected it since everything was described online and we even got a extensive message beforehand with very useful practical information. We will definitely go back there when we visit Amsterdam again!

  • 4/5 S M. 1 year ago on Google
Nice, clean hostel. Our roommates (10 mixed dorm) were really nice. I will say the bathroom situation is a bit weird bc the sink and mirror is in with the shower and the toilet is separate. So the bathroom facilities weren’t great and there weren’t any big lockers for bags, but it’s so well situated I couldn’t complain. It was less than 10 mins from the train, near the red light district, near the coffee shops and nice cafes, by the Main Street with many affordable places to eat, very near the shopping district. We walked everywhere with no issue and I recommend if you’re here for short stays and don’t have too much luggage.

The location is very good. However, the cleanliness leaves something to be desired. The bedsheets had red stains and were far too big for the bed. In addition, the shower, which was also a toilet, was clogged with hair. Rather bad for the price of a one room. Maybe the price performance is better in the shared room. All in all, it was okay for one night as a stopover thanks to the good location. Not recommended for a longer stay.

This hostel has the RUDEST and UNFRIENDLIEST receptions of all time. Even the lady who’s in charge if anything happens is super rude, unfriendly und unprofessional! They have never heard of how to be customer centric and solution oriented. I booked there for one night and slept on a wrong bed in a 10 -bed room. One nightshift guy entered at around 00:30 am and woke me up in a rude way, shouted and was giving me “orders” to switch the bed. I have NEVER experienced such a thing and even if there was a problem they can’t handle any of that and being unfriendly is their solution. It’s such a pity as the location of the hostel is very good but service is just beyond poor. Too bad I booked quickly without reading the other reviews but all of the other comments just confirm my impression and what I have experienced! So never ever recommend staying there!
