We arranged several things with Tomโ€™s Travel Tours from the U.S. for our first visit to Amsterdam. From the transfer to our hotel on arrival at Schiphol to the tours we arranged were just great. Read over the listings on the website. We found the descriptions to be full and accurate. Communication from the outset was effective, efficient and prompt. Most importantly, the guides were pros. So helpful and friendly. Full of real knowledge and adaptive to the needs of their clients. We had 4 interactions. The first was a transfer to our hotel by a professional driver and comfortable, clean auto. Be sure to see if Jackie and Joyce are available! We engaged a 3 hour intro tour to the areas around our hotel, the nine streets/Jordaan. Joyce met us at our hotel and proceeded to give a terrific overview of the area with insights about history, little known facts, etc. much would have been missed had we simply used a map and written guide. Joyce was not only a pro and knowledgeable but adjusted to a needed slower pace due to a limitation on walking speed by my bum leg. The tour was conversational and easy going. In no way does that ease mean incomplete. She answered questions with tips that helped us on local info, trains, restaurants and such. On another day Joyce took us on a tour of the countryside by car. The descriptions on the site give a great overview but we saw beautiful countryside and villages. Joyce knew to arrive and depart to avoid any major crowds and once again taught us much, in a friendly conversational way. A perfect day with Joyce. Jackie took us on a full day to Delft and The Hague. She is a trained educator and very personable. Once more we felt, just like previously, that we were on a custom tour, just for us. Again, a clean comfortable auto. From big picture overviews to a museum visit and even a stop for traditional herring, the day was flawless. Jackie gave us tons of information about the areas and a tour of the Royal Delft. We learned, enjoyed and relaxed. Each tour was unique and so worthwhile! The people guiding us made it so. Jackie and Joyce made us feel at home in Amsterdam and the environs. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful all-day tour with our tour guide, Tricia! We wanted to go someplace where we would not be overwhelmed with other tourists. After some research, we decided to go to Utrecht, a university town not far from Amsterdam. Through emails detailing our interests, a great itinerary was developed for us. In a very comfortable car with 4 adults and a toddler (a car seat was provided!!) we went via country roads to Utrecht seeing & stopping for photos of canals, windmills, quaint villages and idyllic farms. Once in town we went to and toured St. Martin's Cathedral (we love visiting churches and finding out their history -- and this one did not disappoint)! The suggested museum, Museum Speelklok, was a feast for the eyes and ears with the self playing instruments. We walked around town and saw the statue of the only Dutch Pope, Adrian VI, and where he lived. On our way back to Amsterdam, we went to a special pancake restaurant, Theehuis Rhynauwen, that served gluten free pancakes. The outdoors garden area was beautiful and even had a playground too for our little one to stretch her legs. Tricia was very knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics and answered all our questions. Plus she has a delightful personality which made everything even better. I highly recommend Toms Travel Tours!

We had two fantastic private tours with Tom in Amsterdam, Edam, and the countryside. We couldn't have asked for a more professional, personable, and knowledgeable guide than Tom. Three of the four of us on the tour were hobbyist photographers, and since Tom is a professional photographer, he was willing to take us to places where we were able to get amazing shots without a lot of tourist crowds around. He took us to photograph windmills at sunset, he made reservations for us at a wonderful restaurant in Edam, he took us to out-of-the way sights and even treated us to beer or coffee in Amsterdam that we never would have found on our own. He was informative about history without being boring. Our tours were wonderful and will always be a fond memory of our visit to the Netherlands.

We had a very relaxed and informative tour in Amsterdam with Tom, who is a well informed and entertaining tour guide as well as an excellent photographer. We were four, grandma and grandpa and two grandchildren of 10 and 13th. There was no foot dragging by the teenagers and they enjoyed the sidesteps to local markets for savory tastings of genuine Dutch bites. He knew we had another appointment on the 'Pancake Boat' and got us to the ferry just in time! Thank you Tom, much appreciated.

Tom was a wonderful tour guide! He took us through the beautiful countryside of Noord-Holland, north of Amsterdam. He was very knowledgeable and took through some stunningly beautiful villages, ending with a private tour of a 1600s era windmill that his friend managed. Fantastic day and we would highly recommend traveling with him!!!

Kristy and I were privileged to have Tom himself take us on a private tour of AMS!! Having grown up here in Amsterdam, he had a plethora of information, history and tales to share. Iโ€™m sure all his employees are just as versed in history, culture and information and would provide a remarkable bicycle perspective of this amazing city!! I highly recommend this tour!!!

Tom, we just wanted to pass along how much we enjoyed spending our day with Jacky and to also thank you for choosing her to be our guide on Monday. When my husband had the issue with his hip she was wonderful and so very helpful, kind and considerate. We would not have asked for the more perfect guide for our day. She was not only helpful but she also changed plans so seamlessly to include him into our tour. We had a wonderful time, saw all the things we wanted to and have a blast doing it. We just wanted you to know what a great employee you have and how much we appreciated her. We highly recommend Toms Travel Tours!

Outstanding 2nd time with Tom! We first met Tom in 2018 and were so impressed we reached out again. Tom is both a great guide and a very gifted photographer. He has great energy and is a pleasure to be around. He is also a bargain because you get a guide and a photographer for the same price. The photos are memorable. Enjoy! Here are some photos from this trip as well as from 2018!

Tom tailored and led a small afternoon tour of North Holland for our international team, and he โ€˜hit the spotโ€™ perfectly. We packed in several interesting visits ably supported by Tomโ€™s knowledge and easy-going manner. If youโ€™re thinking about a tour away outside of a regular package and apart from the masses, I would definitely recommend contacting Tom to discuss your itinerary and preferences.

Each time I contacted Tom, I never had a bad surprise, he took care of the organisation, the timing and he will do whatever it takes to make it a memorable experience. He is a professional, he can also bring his photographic expertise which is highly recommended. He is someone who is easy to talk to and bond with.

My family of 18 and I took a 2 week cruise and had a one day stop in Amsterdam on July 19, 2019. I arranged a tour with Tom to see the Windmill Farm, in Zaanse Schans, and then to Amsterdam for a walking tour, with a couple of museums and a Canal cruise with lunch. Our family has done a total of 6 of these kind of cruises in Europe before and we arrange our own excursions thru similar travel companies like Tom's Travel Tours. Tom's Travel Tours far exceeded my expectations, and has been the best tour company I have ever dealt with. His communication and attention to detail was outstanding. Everyone in my group agreed that this tour we took with Tom was one of our best ever. 5 + STARS. Thanks Tom...

I just wanted to thank Tom for all his help in setting up an awesome itinerary for my wife and I. We did not know what to expect and were absolutely delighted. The special tours to the two art museums, highlighted by getting us tickets to the Vermeer exhibit, made the trip. A few comments- Stan did a nice job with our short walking tour of the central area of Amsterdam. He shared the amazing history with us. The canal cruise with Capt. Brian on the Elisabeth was perfect. He was great and the boat absolutely beautiful. Way better than cruising on one of those large boats. We deeply enjoyed it. Timm was awesome. We had her for two days, day 1 for tulips and windmills, Day 2 the Hague. Anything she could do to accommodate us she did and she was very informative. We really enjoyed our time with her , especially our walking tour in the Hague. She grew up there and really knows it. She is top notch. I donโ€™t think Tom could have created a better itinerary for us and he did so last second. I strongly recommend Tom's services to anyone who is going to the area. We did not know what to expect from our three days in the Netherlands and my wife and I agreed because of using Tom's services, it far surpassed our expectations and was ideal.

Loved this tour!! Tom is so fun and has so much to share about the city- things you wouldnโ€™t hear on a typical โ€œtourโ€ and fascinating stories. He also does wine and cheese tours so knows about restaurants, markets and where to get the yummy stuff! We had a blast cycling through Amsterdam with Tom and canโ€™t recommend his tour company more highly!!

We had a fabulous Amsterdam Highlights tour with Tom of Toms Travel Tours. He was engaging, super knowledgeable, and won over our teenagers with impromptu food tastings! We learned about Dutch history and current Amsterdam life and saw a side of the city that we would have missed completely if we hadn't done this tour. He also took some wonderful photos of our family. This tour is totally worth it!

Tom was a wonderful guide and showed us so many amazing areas and local attractions that we never would have found had we gone with a more generic group tour of Amsterdam. From local markets, hidden murals, and pocket communities, Tom truly gave us a glimpse at Amsterdam life outside of the museums and other routine attractions. And to top it off he took some amazing photos of my husband and I to help capture our vacation. Highly recommend!

Four of us took a girls trip to Amsterdam for a friend's 40th birthday and decided to book a couple tours with Tom's. Best decision we made! We had two wonderful tours - one city tour of Amsterdam and a countryside tour of several small villages. They were prompt with communicating, reliable, friendly, and we would definitely use them again. Highly recommended!

Toms Travel Tours organises high quality tours in Amsterdam and other places throughout the Netherlands. Almost all languages spoken and the guides take very good care of you . I especially like the countryside tour , which can be adjusted to your own preference. In April the tulip fields are a must do and see , often combined with quaint little towns . Highly recommended !

Tom and his team are very professional. Tom provided excellent ideas and was very accommodating during the reservation. I did two full days private tours with Jeroen. Jeroen is a knowledgeable and friendly guide. The car he used was very clean and comfortable. Jeroen is very professional, was on time at the airport, took the time to explain everything and suggested excellent ideas during the tours. We stopped for lunch at excellent restaurants and many other snacks and quick street food along the tours. Very knowledgeable in the museum. I highly recommend Tom tours and if you want a wonderful time ask for Jeroen.

We booked all of our Amsterdam tours through Tomโ€™s Travels. We did the food tour and museum tour with Joyce, Red Light District with Stan, 3 hour walking tour with Timm, Countryside day trip with Rhein, and the private canal boat ride with Louis. All the guides were exceptional, friendly and knowledgeable. Tom was great with organizing our agenda and very timely with his communication. We tasted all the local foods and loved them all!

We had a fantastic tour! We were a group of 60, and it seems every one of them was very impressed with the distinct way the tour guides worked. It was a very informal but informative experience. It was very comfortable and easy since we asked for a walking tour around our Hotel. Toms's Travel tour adapted to our wishes and made the tour extraordinary. Even though most people were from Amsterdam or around the area, they were also very impressed. Thank you for the experience! I recommend it.

We booked a full day tour of Storybook Holland with Toms Travel Tours. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore outside of Amsterdam and have a chance to appreciate Hollandโ€™s countryside. Tom worked with us to create a day to see historic sites like the Windmills and other less touristy and quaint neighborhoods. Communication was excellent in planning our day all the way through our arrival in Amsterdam. Tom was an amazing guide and photographer. We loved hearing his personal stories of growing up in the area. We stopped at a cozy pub, a wonderful spot for lunch and even a tasting with a cheese maker. I would highly recommend Toms Travels and we hope to be a return customer in the near future.

We traveled to Amsterdam and had the privilege of having Toms Travel give us private tours for 3 days in Amsterdam. All of the guides were superb, Stan giving us the Jewish history, Esmee taking us for the best apple pie and showing us old Amsterdam and then of course Tom who took us to the countryside where we saw beautiful small towns, villages and even a working windmill! Tom is even a great photographer and took pictures along the way. If you need any guides in Amsterdam we would say YES, YES, YES! Thanks Tom

Truly a delightful opportunity to explore the Netherlands. Tom is engaging, charming, a gifted photographer and brings an energy and enthusiasm that is infectious. We had a chance to explore the Beemster, a clog factory a truly delightful cheese factory, several historic churches and met an alpaca! I would be remiss if I did not again mentioned his photographic skill set which yielded beautiful memories that we are able to share with our family on our return. I would easily book with Tom again.

Our bike tour with Tom van de Liej was exceptional, despite the fact that the day was pretty cold and we are not highly-experienced cyclists. We toured all around the city, even going to the North side - an area we hadn't been to previously and probably would have missed if it wasn't for this tour. Tom immediately made us feel comfortable on our bikes (there were 3 of us: my husband, 16-yr old daughter, and myself) was EXTREMELY kind and VERY knowledgeable about all the city sites. We biked through Vondelpark, stopped in various key locations in the Jordaan and the City Center, and took the ferries to and from the North Side. Tom's family has lived in Amsterdam for many, many generations so he was able to provide so much history and many interesting facts about the city (including his favorite cafes and the most scenic spots). Worth pointing out, is that Tom is a professional travel photographer (he currently has an exhibit in Amsterdam) and he snapped many photos of us! We didn't have to worry about bringing a camera or trying to get selfies; it was as if we were touring with our very own private photographer and he shared the photos with us the very next day (and don't worry, if this isn't what you want to do, it won't be an issue). This bike tour was so much fun and without a doubt a HIGHLIGHT of our time in Amsterdam! We will certainly book other tours with Toms Travel.

We hired Tom for a 3-day tour of Amsterdam and the countryside and he did not disappoint! Tom is an exciting, high-energy, knowledgeable guide with a great laugh and self-deprecating manner. His photography skills are a massive plus so you don't have to worry about taking photos during your time with him. He fully engages with his environment and will point out a small housing detail, or suggest you lean in to smell the flowers, or give you a quick history lesson of a windmill. He has a quick wit, is incredibly easy to understand, and will make you smile with his zest for life as well as animals (he will say hello to any dog he sees). Can't recommend Tom highly enough - we spent three days with him and wish we could have spent more. Choose Tom for one of the best tour guides you'll ever have.

In April 2022, we participated in a group tulip tour of the Netherlands which was provided by Toms Travel Tours. The itinerary was an outstanding combination of popular attractions such as the Keukenhof and Het Loo and more intimate experiences such as a tour of the historic formal gardens at a private palace by the owners and a visit to a small bee keeping operation. The logistics of the tour were very well organized with comfortable hotels and excellent choices for the provided meals. We were very impressed with our guide Ingrid who was well organized and provided great energy and a wealth of knowledge. After our group tour we arranged several days of extended activities in Amsterdam through Toms Travel Tours. We were particularly impressed by our personal tour of the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum with Jeroen who provided both the stories of the artworks as well as information about the artists' techniques. A final highlight was our private evening canal cruise in a 92 year old wood strip boat, with Willem as our captain and commentator. We look forward to travelling with Toms Travel Tours again and will recommend his company to our friends!

On behalf of my family, I want to thank Tom and Jeroen for an amazing all day tour. Everyone on the tour (there were 6 of us) enjoyed all the stops. The kids really loved the windmills and stops at the cheese, clog manufacturing, and Marken were equally great. Lastly, we really appreciate Jeroen for all his research on our ancestors from Akersloot and the stops he created to visit the town, church and homestead. What Jeroen provided was a lifetime experience for all to us...Thank you!

My parents, husband, and I booked the 4 hour walking tour of Amsterdam and the full day countryside tour with Tomโ€™s Travel Tours. Tom van der Leij was our guide and our experience with him was exceptional. We enjoyed our half day walking tour and covered much more ground in just 4 hours than we thought we would. Tom picked us up at our hotel, guided us through town, and dropped us off at a restaurant that he had recommended we reserve for lunch. He knew we had reservations for the Anne Frank Museum that afternoon and made sure to suggest a spot nearby. Between the walk, recommended lunch, and Museum, our first day in Amsterdam was covered. Itโ€™s worth mentioning that our weather forecast for our stay in the Netherlands was abominable. Heavy rains and winds and cool temps for the summer were predicted. Tom was flexible and well prepared - even going so far as to bring along disposable ponchos and umbrellas just in case. The following day we traveled to various towns outside of Amsterdam. We enjoyed a morning of riding bikes and an afternoon of exploring Edam, the Windmills, and De Beemster. Tom even knows a Miller personally and scheduled time for us to privately walk through his Windmill (also his home) and property. We learned so much and are confident that we would not have had the same experience with anyone else. Tom knew that we have a sweet tooth and went out of his way to pick up cookies and chocolates to have as an afternoon treat while exploring the countryside. He even packed an IPA for my husband and cava for me. Tom displayed absolutely exceptional guiding, service, and attitude both days. Additionally, Tom has a passion for photography and gladly photographs his guests. We so enjoyed his skills and appreciated his willingness to take pictures of our family. We know that his shots will be the best of our entire trip to Europe. We will, without hesitation, recommend Tom to any friends and family that travel to Amsterdam. 5/5 stars. Book with him now!
