For the Kids, the Aquarium was really fascinating. For the Parents both parts :-)

Ein muss wenn man hier in der Ecke Gast ist. Ein lehrreiches und schön gemachtes Stück Geschichte. Mit vielen Möglichkeiten um Neues zu entdecken. Wir sind zum zweiten mal hier und es hat sich wieder gelohnt. Und die Leute dort sind alle sehr nett und freundlich. Preise für Eintritt und Gastronomie gehen völlig in Ordnung. Wir werden auch nächstes Jahr gerne wiederkommen. Ein Tipp. Fragt nach Ingrid, eine sehr nette, ältere und fitte Dame, die euch so viel erzählen kann und auch dazu noch Kriegszeugin ist. During our day trip to Edmong an Zee we stopped to visite the fort in Huisduinen. The fort is not far away from the center of the city, there is a parking in front of it, and if you don’t mind waking 5min you can park for free on the street. There is an aquarium in the fort and then the war museum. The fort is not that big but still interesting to visit and to understand Newzealand part in different European war.

Sollte man besuchen wenn man in Den Helder ist, nicht nur bei🌧️😉 Es ist sehr abwechslungsreich und interessant, weil Festung, Museum und Aquarium in einem. Geschichte zur Napoleonischen Festung und zur deutschen Besatzung. Tolles Aquarium mit begehbaren Tunnel, Skelett eines Pottwals, Festungsanlagen im Außenbereich, mit unterirdischen Verbindungstunnel. Kostenfreier Parkplatz direkt vor der Festung und 11€ Eintritt ist hierfür nicht zu viel. Sollte man gesehen und erlebt haben. 👍 👍👍

Nice little Fort from Napolions time. Good preserved, the entrance (upper deck) is a bit neglected and does not look very promessing but once insede it became interesting. Was occupied by Nazi Germany once as well. Lots of guns at the show cases, nice organized. Including sea life aquariums. The kids lived especially the posibility to tuch and pet the sharks and other sea creatures and fish. The coffe shop is a bit dark and cold, a greater variety of drinks and maybe ice cream would atrect kids and adults. There is an interesting section of preserved sea creatures for biology lovers. The entry was 8 € wich we think was kind of expensiv if comming with a family of 6 (please add a family program) Parking is free (hopefully one finds a spot) Toilets are free, but not many and clean 3/5 Thats why i gave it 4 stars and not 5. In general for those that love the dunes, sea and history it is a sweet little spot. Dont forget to climb out and have a look around, there are ww2 German bunkers on the side of the fort. Kids will love to peek inside but remember there are deep holes-do not fall inside. Enjoy

Easily a half day visit. Tunnels to explorer, battlements to climb. Soaked in history through the centuries. In contrast there is an aquarium.

For €11, we got a ticket to the museum, aquarium and audio guide (English / Dutch). We spent perhaps 1.5 hours in the museum walking around and listening to all of the audio recordings, then about 45min in the aquarium. The fort is very interesting and has a lot to offer to those interested to know its history. And why Den Helder was an important part of the Netherlands’ history.

I really enjoyed my visit to the fort and the aquarium. The location is gorgeous and parking is free. I thought the displays in the fort were interesing, but I really loved the aquarium and all the information about the local fauna. Really interesting to see local fish and other sea life up close and personal, especially the rays. It was a great day out and I will definitely visit again.

Fort Kijkduin is at a strategically important location and has quite some history. The museum offers lots of opportunities to get an impression of the war history around that place. You can walk in original bunkers, sit on anti air cannons, watch Napoleons battles or read about German occupation times. The aquarium which is also part of the museum shows local fish and you can even feed sharks there. There is a quiz available to keep the kids busy which worked very well. Highly recommended.

I wasn't expecting much from the pictures that I could find online, but it turns out to be a pretty nice museum! There are lots of secret passageways, isolated display rooms scattered inside and out, and even outdoor trails that lead to hidden bunkers. If you see a tunnel, passage, or path, take it! It might lead you to another unexpected discovery. The aquarium was also much better than I expected as well, no hands on touch experiences, but some really nice tanks and regional aquatic life. Have fun!

We had a lovely afternoon visiting the fort. The war exposition and the aquarium is nicely curated. It is an interesting visit for both adults and kids.

Absolute Empfehlung. War mit meinem 12 jährigen Sohn auf einem Sonntag gegen Mittag da. In den Räumlichkeiten wurde es später recht voll, draußen verläuft sich alles ziemlich. Einziger Minuspunkt ist, dass leider nichts auf deutsch erklärt/beschrieben wird. In den Dünen findet man überall alte Bunker, Tunnel usw. , in denen man rein/durchlaufen kann. Für kleinere Kinder nicht unbedingt gedacht-für etwas ältere, die sich für den Weltkrieg interessieren, sehr cool. Das Aquarium hat uns persönlich nicht so gut gefallen. Aber in Verbindung mit Ford Kijkduin, kann man sich das anschauen. Eintritt nur dafür würde ich nicht bezahlen.

Sehr schön dargestellt und gut erklärt. Personal vor Ort ist gerne bereit spontan eine Führung anzubieten. An vielen Stellen sah es aus als wenn sie umbauen, kann es aber nicht genau sagen da der Rundgang zum Teil durch Räume führt wo nichts steht und es unaufgeräumt ist. Leider für Menschen mit einer Gehbehinderung, alte Menschen und Kinderwagen nicht so gut zu erlaufen. Preise sind human und die Aussicht auf die Nordsee ist wunderschön. Im Museum befindet sich noch eine Ausstellung über die Tiere in der Nordsee in verschiedenen Wasserbecken.

Waren an einem Mittwoch dort, es war nicht überfüllt, trotz der Ferien in NRW und wir konnte uns alles in Ruhe anschauen und durchlesen, hier ein Hiweis: Beschriftung auf Englisch und Holländisch! Wir lernten einiges zur Zeit von Napoleon, also er das Fort erbaute, aber auch zur Zeit des zweiten Weltkriegszeit und der Besetzung durch die Deutsche Wehrmacht, zudem gab es ein Aquarium mit Nordsee Fischen und dem Skelett eines Pottwals. Im Außenbereich haben wir dann einige Bunker durchlaufen, auch einen Tunnel, der im Innern des Hauptgebäudes endet. Sehr spannend zu sehen. Zeitlich sollte man ca. 2-3 h einplanen, wenn nicht sogar mehr. Für eine Erwachsene Person kostete der Eintritt 11 EUR, was ich schon viel finde, allerdings hat es sich gelohnt!

Zum Fort Selbst kann ich leider nicht viel sagen, da ich draußen bleiben musste, weil der Hund nicht mit rein durfte. Mann und Kinder hatten ihren Spaß und waren begeistert. Highlight für die Kids natürlich das große Aquarium Rundum kann man sehr schön spazieren gehen. Es gibt gleich nebenan ein schönes Lokal. Essen sehr lecker und für Holland eigentlich noch günstige Preise Ebenso gibt es einen Zugang zum Strand (unbewacht) überall ausreichend Mülleimer. Schöner Aussichtspunkt auf den Leuchtturm von Den Helder.

Dieses Fort hat wirklich eine ganze Menge zu bieten. Neben tollen Aussichten von den oberen Brüstungen des Forts, kann man auch im inneren so einiges entdecken. Für 10 Euro pro Person konnten wir ein größeres Aquarium  besichtigen.  Hier gab es so einige Fische, Krebse und einiges mehr zu sehen. Außerdem gibt es eine große Ausstellung zu der Geschichte und Entwicklung dieses Forts im laufe seiner Zeit. Hier gibt es nicht nur Bilder, Informationstafeln, sondern auch sehr viele Waffen und weitere beeindruckende Sachen. Außerdem gibt es auf dem Außengelände eine ganze Menge an Schützengräben und eine Vielzahl an den   verschiedensten Bunkerarten zu entdecken und zu erkunden. Ein sehr spannendes und ehrfürchtiges Erlebnis. Wenn ich nochmal in der Nähe sein sollte, werde ich defintiv diesen Ort wieder einen Besuch abstatten.

Nice place to visit very calm and peaceful

Nett gemachtes Stück Geschichte. Es gibt viel zu sehen und die Erklärungen, leider nur auf englisch 6bd niederländisch, sind gut gemacht. Interessant und lehrreich. Das Aquarium ist auch sehr schön mit einem durchsichtigen Tunnel zum durchgehen. Viele kleinere Becken und Bilder zu den Nordsee Gegebenheiten.

Both museum and aquarium are located in the fort. The parking place before the fort is free. The aquarium is fun with open tanks and option to feed fish. The collection of the fish and other creatures is amazing. The history museum cowers the fort past during Napoleonic wars and the WWII. The collection of the handguns is interesting. The single ticket is for both museum and aquarium. You can also climb on the top of the fort free . There is fantastic view on sea and dunes. The cafe inside the fort has indoor and outdoor terraces. It offers pastries and coffee. More substantial food is available in two restaurants across the parking lot. There is an elevator for people with limited abilities. Reserve about 1,5 hours for the visit. Also, walking on the beach and dunes is great if weather permits.

The history of the fort Kijkduin is really interesting. The acquarium is an extra. Worth to spend there a bit time.

Beautiful place with loads of authentic WW2 items in the museum. The aquarium is also great! Truly a once in a lifetime thing.

We visited as a group of four adults. The fort is a fascinating building with a rich past. Information about the fort's history was well displayed with interesting tableaux to add to the experience. An interesting addition was the aquarium with it's new display of a skeleton of a sperm whale.

Nice fortress from Napoleonic times. Good place to learn about history and enjoy the coast line with dunes and waves.

Very interesting without being tedious, make sure you take a couple of hours for your visit. Lots to see, learn and enjoy.

Great nice place for a tour. Great museum of war, nice antiques. The sea museum was awesome, the smell of the sea was great. Paid 8 eur a piece. Hated: no discount for students and no english translation, just Dutch writting. The place is also nice to walk to, thru the seaside.

Nice place but a bit messy, route was not clear and the stories, history lessons were confusing. Concentration was on the 2nd WW War. The museum almost doesn't look like it is finished. Big problem I noticed was the history of the place has a big French influence but no where you could find French text, Dutch or English. Disappointing. The aquarium is funny but small and it should be inside the fortress, it hasn't anything to do there, just like the whale info, put this in a different building or so.

It's ok. Was a little disappointed that we could not explore the outside of the fort more as everything was closed off. None of the exhibit details are in English. Also only cash is accepted.

Quirky museum with lovely view of the ocean.

Very educational & engaging experience, with wonderful staff! We arrived on a Thursday at 2.30pm, not sure what to expect. We were received by Julia at the front desk, she recommended we take the audio devices (in English), it was free with the admission ticket. She clearly explained the route, how to reach the additional area featuring the whale skeleton, she was very patient, helpful and overall professional during our visit. If you enjoy learning the history of such a monument, you can get that here with field models displays, films and actual artifacts! The Fort is laid out in such a matter that you can see the museum inside, you can also go outside to visit a few other areas (bunkers you can enter) and with a bonus of an aquarium in the fort, featuring a walking tunnel through a fish tank. We felt the ticket price was very affordable for what was offered at this museum!
