The
decor
is
actually
pretty
nice
and
so
is
the
coffee.
It's
not
over-roasted
like
some
big
Seattle
chains
and
the
menu
has
interesting
Hispanic
flaire.
But
some
of
their
staff,
or
perhaps
all,
need
to
partake
in
extra
training
in
barista
arts.
The
"supervisor"
taking
my
order
did
not
want
to
make
my
coffee
the
way
I
wanted
it...
she
just
could
not
allow
me
to
order
a
cortado
I
come
in
on
a
Saturday
morning
as
I
wait
for
my
car
wash
down
the
street.
Two
customers
in
front
of
me
order
and
now
it's
my
turn.
Me:
I'd
like
a
cortado.
Her:
What?
We
don't
have
that...
Me:
yeah
I
didn't
see
it
on
the
menu,
but
I'm
sure
you
can
make
it.
Her:
uhh
we
can't
do
that,
you
have
to
get
a
latte
or
a
macchiato,
or
something
from
the
menu.
ME:
"I
don't
want
a
macchiato,
or
latte,
I
want
a
cortado.
A
latte
has
too
much
milk
for
me.
Her:
[looks
at
her
order
order
screen
and
back
up
at
me
waiting
for
me
to
confirm
what
I
want
from
their
menu]
Me:
look,
you're
coffee
shop
that
makes
espresso,
you
can
literally
make
anything!"
Her:
"we
have
a
certain
way
we
do
things
here.
Me:
can
you
just
ask
your
supervisor?
Her:
I
am
the
supervisor
Me:
okay
can't
you
please
just
add
a
little
more
warm
milk
into
a
macchiato?
That's
it,
a
cortado
just
has
a
little
more
milk.
Her:
let
me
ask.
[goes
and
asks
someone,
perhaps
the
real
supervisor....]
Comes
back
about
65
seconds
later
.
"NO"
sorry"
Me:
I
turn
to
try
to
get
some
support
from
the
coffee
drinkers
behind
me.
Everyone
pretend
that
everything
is
fine
and
avoids
eye
contact
with
me.
I
look
back
really
trying
to
stay
calm
and
keep
my
voice
down
Me:
"Listen,
can
you
just
pour
a
2
oz
shot
of
expresso
and
add
2oz
of
warm
or
steamed
milk
into
a
cup,
you
can
use
the
latte
cup
if
you
don't
have
a
5
or
6
oz
cup."
Her:
NO!
I
already
asked
my
supervisor
and
I
told
you
that
we
don't
do
it
that
way....
Me:
[I
look
back
again
to
gauge
how
I'm
doing
or
if
makes
sense
to
continue
to
argue
my
case....the
line
is
8
deep
and
getting
impatient..
I
look
back
at
her
stumped
and
still
deciding
how
to
proceed
in
this
situation]
Her:
So,
do
you
want
a
macchiato,
or
latte
or
maybe
a
cappuccino?"
Me:
[defeated
with
my
head
down]
I'll
have
the
macchiato.
Her:
do
you
want
to
add
a
shot
to
that?
Me:
No
:(
So
it
goes...
