Hospital administration is failing the patients and staff of this emergency room. My family member had 3 visits to the emergency room this month. The first room was a psychiatric hold with writing on the walls. The second time she was placed in a storage room bed for treatment. And the third time she’s been forced to wait in a bed in a crowded hallway with 5 other gurneys. Has COVID taught nothing to the people running this facility about the spread of diseases?? The lack of support for staff is negligent and updated/expanded facilities are desperately needed. Staff cannot provide exceptional care when hospital administrators allow overflow and under supply at the heart of UCI medical center

DO NOT GO THERE! THIS PLACE IS A NIGHTMARE! Unbelievably horrible. I would expect better emergency treatment in a third world country. Cruel and callous treatment, as though desperate people are cattle. Must climb steep stairs before entering with no ramp or elevator for injured or disabled patients. No air conditioner in sweltering heat with a packed waiting room full of people in agony and sick people coughing and sweating on each other. No ability to give patients IVs. Had to take a loved one there when they developed a complication following an outpatient surgery at the main hospital and the surgeon’s staff advised us to return to the UCI ER so that surgeon could be paged to examine my loved one. Main hospital was amazing; so organized and professional compared to Emergency Room. ER was a Ridiculously unprofessional facility that doesn’t appear sanitary, they even draw blood in a tight hallway where people bump into the outstretched arm. Then they callously shuffle desperate patients back into waiting room. Everyone in the packed waiting room is agonizing. We were there for several hours and nothing was done to help. Emergency doctor said they’d get my loved one a pain shot and I then sent them back to waiting room for hours without ever giving the injection. I kept asking the staff to give my loved one the shot that was ordered, but they kept saying they have to wait for the order to be processed. Made my loved one wait hours for nothing. I would absolutely never return to this ER; in an emergency; even if it was the last one on earth.

Administration needs to lock in to the situation going on here, I visited the ER 3 times in July and there is no true Doctor here. Worst experience ever. 10 hours to get a CT SCAN results. NOT ACCEPTABLE. very disappointed. Moving my medical needs somewhere else. Don't waste you're time coming here. WORST ER DEPARTMENT IN ORANGE COUNTY!

Horrible. Would give a 0 start. Wait time is ridiculous and there is no patient privacy! 6+ hours. Horrible patient care. There is no organization in place and everyone is waiting a small ‘waiting room’ in the hall. There are beds in the hallway, and ER patients are taken inside to just go wait inside another ‘waiting room’ which is a hallway. Disappointing. Overheard another patient had been here since the morning and had not been offered any food or water!! (No patient privacy). My own fault for thinking it would be better now, don’t come here

Abysmal. Well stocked and the place to go if you have an emergency. However the nurses are very cruel, arrogant, condescending, and heartless. It's quite horrific that these ER nurses have been accepted to nursing school and allowed to practice. If you're burned out making the amount of money you do, change your profession. The physicians are no better. Why does it take them hours to get around to approving pain meds for a suffering geriatric patient? One can only hope that karma is a real thing. Having said that, I will give credit where it's due though. The dialysis nurse, Teri, was absolutely lovely, and the second nurse Kim wasn't too bad. It's a shame the others interacted with, in the ED, left a sour taste in the mouth.

Sitting in ER now! My husband was brought in Monday and here it’s Friday and we are still in ER. Has a break in his back and one minute someone says he’ll have surgery next he won’t! He’s in heavy duty back brace to keep his spine safe! He hand no food drink or IV until 3 rd day here after me complaining that he was dehydrated and his urine was dark! It should take a rocket science to realize if he is not eating or drinking he should be give an IV for nutrition! Also he was on a gurney for almost 3 days! Finally after telling them his hips were hurting they brought a hospital bed. One minute they say they might transfer him to St Joseph or St Jude and next they’re not. Those are our hospitals. Yesterday they said they will admit him here but there’s await list. I said we’ve been here since Monday and they told me wait list starts when they decide to admit him. Most nurses seem to be bothered when you ask them anything. Although yesterday we had Teyler who was wonderful.

This was my first time here. I came in for tachycardia, edema in the lower extremities, SOB, and light chest pain. I was concerned that I was having CHF so wanted to be seen right away. I literally walked up, was triaged instantly and was taken right in to see a doctor who immediately ordered and administered an EKG and echocardiogram. No waiting whatsoever! That right there is worth 5 stars! They also began to run a myriad of other tests and kept me in observation for a couple hours. My only reason for not giving the full 5 stars; One - they didn't ask me for all of the medications I take. Two - they never found a solution to the alarming symptoms I was experiencing. On a good note, they did determine I did not have CHF! That was my main concern. However, still no explanation for the swelling and why my heart rate has been very elevated (even when taking medication to lower heart rate). I do feel better that everything checked out fine and I did receive excellent care!

I came in for a broken ankle I had sustained a few days prior. I was having trouble finding anyone that could help me without insurance. I finally decided I couldn't wait any longer and went to UCI ER. I'm so thankful I did. Every single person I encountered was kind, helpful and made sure I was comfortable. They got me signed up for temporary insurance and got me pain relief within 30 minutes. The Triage Nurse was so kind and got me over to a wonderful nurse practitioner who got my pain under control and my imaging done. The orthopedic surgeon on the floor was wonderful, he set my ankle and foot and gave me a much better splint than what I received at an urgent care. I can't say enough about how at ease every staff member made me. I was there most of the day but it was well worth it to get the help I needed.

Surprisingly, I was in and out very quickly! I was in there for 2 hours tops . I was very pleased with my doctor, he helped me with my issue & had me feeling better very quickly. All employees were very nice except for the older tall skinny Asian lady at the release form area, she was very rude & seemed like she was in a bad mood. No care whatsoever for anyone’s questions. Other then that, great experience.

Came here because other er down the street was very congested but omg I would have rather waited 5 hours like I did at uci over there. There was a man that waited 12 hours for a CT scan. Just awful. There was a man with a dislocated shoulder for hours. At least at the other er when they take you back after waiting you get a room and privacy. The worst thing I see was a nurse taking off an iv over the registration desk… not in a clean area just right there as people are checking in. I was in utter disbelief. I’ll give 2 stars to the nurses that really tried and we’re still human and not desensitized. My favorite part was the nurse with a complete disregard for hippa and letting everyone know your business by yelling out all your information. I’d rather take my business elsewhere.

Worst Service. My daad was bleeding from his urine. We waited almost 7 hours just to see the doctor, Dont worry after you see doctor you have to wait more for further treatment. Process started after 4 hours just a IV, after that they told us to wait. We waited 3 hours more and we went to different hospital. My dad lots so much blood 🩸 Worst service Bad customer service No respect they call your name like your slave they know you need wheelchair but they will walk away

The staff at this ER are exceptional, but like many ERs the facility and their resources don’t do them justice. Dr Rivera and Nurse Jamille were fantastic. Parking- ramp parking was available within walking distance. Plenty of handicap parking. Drop off area. Check in gave us a card after check in at the triage area that made it $2. Triage- there are stairs and a ramp. Ramp is a bit hard to find (we just carried our stroller up the stairs). Metal detector and bag search. Clean waiting room and relatively fast triage. Vitals are taken and a COVID/flu test. Nurses are quick and efficient. Very friendly people, from the security staff to the admin team. ER Waiting room- Definitely more crowded. Bathroom facilities available. Longer wait. Later on in the night some patients were being seen out there and given medications. Being seen- we were seen by a doctor who was being supervised by the attending physician. It was a large room with patients separated by curtains and easy to listen to everyone else. Not a lot of space. We were helped and examined by two doctors and a couple nurses. We were given an action plan and moved into a “room.” Room was actually a hospital bed in the hallway because they are extremely space limited. Not ideal, but certainly better than being turned away due to lack of space! Treatment- treatment plan was executed in the hallway. Nurses definitely looked out for us, bringing water and light food, even a pillow and blankets. Doctors checked in frequently, even while they were juggling all the other patients and an incoming trauma. One mix up with the pharmacy, but didn’t seem like the doctor or nurse’s fault. It added to the wait substantially. Discharge-Rechecked vitals multiple times and gave us a print out of everything we had accomplished. Helped us out the door to our car.

Thank you for everyone that works in this ER for helping my husband! Everyone was kind and professional and identified his issue and took care of him. He was admitted to the hospital and the staff there was amazing. Dr. Tso and Gloria were exceptional. As for the ER, was it a REALLY long wait? Yes. Was it uncomfortable? Absolutely. Were we stressed with how sick my husband was? Certainly. Was the waiting room over flowing with people sitting outside? I have never seen anything like it. It was a major challenge for sure, but everyone that works there in every capacity shows up everyday to help us and they deserve a medal for putting up with some things I witnessed. We decided the best course of action was to let the process work itself out and be patient. Not easy. Everyone we came into contact with was professional, knowledgeable and kind and my husband is on the road to a full recovery! Thank you!

Everything was going great, checked in immediately, called back after 5min, saw a Dr within the next 5min…… ordered a throat swab and an intermuscular dose of antibiotics……then waited 2 hours to have my 6 yr old daughters throat swabbed……. At nearly the 3 hour mark now and still haven’t been given the antibiotic. They did finally update us after 2 hours, that they are waiting on the pharmacy. Everyone has been really nice, just REALLY SLOW waiting on the pharmacy.

One of the worst experiences ever. As much as I heard of UCI being trauma 1 hospital, but their ER is equally worse. Patience r sitting in uncomfortable chairs while getting IV. They need to work on improving their ER department rather than other areas of campus. Being a university hospital there many medical staff personal but their services is bad.

This place will prescribe you Tylenol for everything and then we’ll send you home. Took them 3hrs just to give us Tylenol for severe gallstone vomiting and another 3hrs for the CT Scan results. Terrible service: made us wait in the lobby instead of giving PT a room to rest while waiting for results.

Absolutely horrible experience. They weren’t even that busy & it took six hours to treat a fractured wrist. When the resident finally saw us though, he was delightful. Security personnel are absolutely incompetent. Don’t ever go here for anything.

Terrible! Nurse treatme very disrespectful she toldme that she was wasting time with me as a patient. It looks like the supervisor does'nt exist and they can treat patient with no respect. Sorry for the supervisor because she represent the bad nurses They know that nothing is going to happen for their bad behavior. thanks to the supervisor she won't do anything.

Staff and doctors here are nice and kind, which I did not expect since the ER is such a high stress environment. The wait is quite long but that is expected of the ER. The team really took care of me, explained how they would help me and also gave me some options going forward. Going to the ER is never fun but it really helps to have a team that cares!

The doctor and the nurses tell you different versions of stories, and the front desk need some proper training, you can just hang up on a patient? Rude.

I got so lucky at UCI! They took me in, already took samples and more. The doctors that are interested in medical situations are some of the best in the world and were Deans of medical collages.

The security in the emergency waiting room makes patients feel like they are at intake for county jail, repeatedly coming in and staring everyone down giving the room an uneasy feeling like we've done something wrong. A homeless lady had been released and the security made her leave in the rain, there was no compassion in the way he told her to leave. A patient should not be treated like they are in jail when they seek medical attention. Further more the security guard is racial profiling the lady he told to leave was white and there is a Hispanic man who is homeless that is sleeping in the waiting room and has said nothing to him. It's a sad day when you are treated unfairly because of your ethnicity! UCI just got a huge black eye.

I had to visit the ER on my second day here from Canada with a serious eye infection that needed immediate attention. As a Canadian that is used to having 8 hrs wait times, I was so happy to be seen within an hour, and within another hr by a specialist. It took a long time to be discharged after that (about 2hrs) but the staff were all very kind and I left thankful to be seen so quickly.

We have had to visit UCI ER multiple times throughout this year and the service is very good. Everyone from the security guy to the nurses, doctors, the person who helped getting blood (I think his name is Eric), xray technician, etc. is all very warm and nice to us. Thank you to the doctors at UCI for taking care of our mother.

What? So I'ma set a few things straight. that I think everyone should know. This place. Saves lives. These people whom work. The majority work 10-16 hour shifts. With crazy overtime. Day in -dat out. If you are hurt or sick they will help you. So rating these one star , or two star is crazy. If you don't like it. Then stay home and fix yourself. Dont go here looking for help. It's terrible.

Terrible situation they put you in They just run test to build money for them. Sent to a place to get prescription that will not see me. So all I'm getting is a emergency bill for no reason. I'm still stuck with no meds and the same problem. I called the hospital to see why they would do this. I get put on hold till I hang up.. this place is a fraud
