The Chugach mountains begin just a short drive from Anchorage and are, arguably, as beautiful as Denali (which is almost always shrouded in clouds). Great chance you will see bald eagles. Drive deeper and you will travel through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel en route to Whittier and a former secret military base. Pretty darn cool!

Beautiful State Park. There is none better in many people's estimation. From sea level to the mountain tops, the views are spectacular. You can get lost in your thoughts here, and if you don't watch out you might actually get lost for awhile. Do not count on being able to get a cell signal if you go into this wilderness, even less so the further East you go into the Park. Weather can change suddenly, and can be deadly. Prepare well.

Beautiful expansive place to hike and explore. Oh the places you could go. Glaciers, snow capped peaks, breathtaking views, unexplored territory, and so much more. This is a truly unique state park. It is so fun to get beyond where most hikers even travel and to see new things. Ever changing, and takes my breath away every time I see something new.

Enjoy the great outdoors. Beautiful autumn colors splashing the mountains, paddle in Eklutna Lake or hike he trails. Add to the list of camping at the near by sites. Middle of the week is more relaxing to avoid the overflow parking lot.

Lots of trails to hike. The paths were packed snow but had lots of frozen deep footprints which made them a bit hazardous if you didn't watch your step.

We decided to take the Bear Mountain Trail to the peak and then traversed across a gorgeous ridge to come down along the Eklutna Mountain Trail. What a spectacular view! At the end of the Bear Mountain Trail you are standing high above Mirror Lake. Watching the float planes take off from so high up is lots of fun. The path is easy to follow and is carpeted with wildflowers. AllTrails said we hit over 3,000 feet of elevation gain from the lot, so be prepared for some steep stretches.

Amazing mountains within Chugach State Park. Hundreds of miles of beautiful trails just in close proximity to Anchorage and other small towns in Alaska. You’ll find here everything from a path for an easy Sunday afternoon stroll with kids to advanced mountaineering adventures.

I think the pictures speak for themselves. OMG! the most beautiful sites I have ever been too. Wilderness-wise. Swans, clean BLUE skies, clear waters, untouched land. Wow! Great place to centre your zen.

Beautiful place. Less than 30 minutes outside Anchorage. Beautiful drive along Turnagain Arm on the Seward Highway.

Went wild blueberry picking here and it was terrific! Lots of blueberries 🫐 everywhere! Such a beautiful area. Easy to get to and accessable paths to different areas so you can spread out and enjoy larges spaces to pick blueberries. We came late in the season and there was still plenty to be picked.

Nice hike up with the most amazing views of Eklutna Lake. Parking gets busy quick, so try to get there before 9:00 for a spot. And they do have a little rental place for bikes and I think I saw kayaks as well. The paths are well marked and easy to follow.

We had trouble finding camping and information on our travels. We loved the beautiful landscape, so unfortunately, we did a drive-through. We were having trouble finding information and proper hiking trail information on the road, so I would advise searching for their things beforehand because we couldn't find any or very little information to get on the trails.

Very interesting and informative visitors center with park rangers who were very helpful and happy to answer any questions. Good movies shown every hour. Great displays and exhibits. Got in free with my senior park pass! 👍

Was a fun hike to the waterfalls. Last part down to the falls is steep but worth it.
