This is so far my favorite place to visit in Ankara. The view was stunning, the area was so well organized, and the buildings inside are well maintained. It truly feels like I'm going back in time to the old era when I got inside this castle. There are plenty of shops and even cafes or restaurants so there are a lot of things to enjoy inside this castle. The hike to the top of castle might be challenging but once you're on top, everything is going to worth your while.

Beautiful place and scenery. The castle is situated in a small village with shops and eateries. They have a tourist information in the grounds and the lady was very helpful and informative. Well worth a visit and there is no charge to enter.

I loved the old city. You can feel the charm it really is magical and kind of looks like king’s landing. The castle was sadly closed not sure why but still i got to the small viewing fortress ahead and it was very nice amazing views. The houses and streets are very well maintained and you’ll love walking in these streets.

Its good place to visit and very nice street to view. The perfect and nice place to see the old structure of the turkey specially in Ankara. Narrow streets and best atmosphere. Highly recommended and best part is the nearest cafe and good quality of tea and coffee. Also there are many shoes shop which sell the shoes at wholesale rate.

Loved my walk up to this fortress through the cobbled streets past all the lovely colourful shops. The views from the castle top are amazing. You get a 360° panoramic view over the city and I could see the snow capped mountains in the distance. Very nice well worth the walk.

It is one of the best traditional places to visit in Ankara. Make sure to wear suitable shoes as you might be walking up and down a lot. Also, if you managed to get to the top of the castle, you can see a beautiful view of the whole Ankara. Also you can find plenty of restaurants and a variety of shops on the way to the castle. Totally recommend it.

Such a wonderful place I went to see in Ankara. You can the city from the top. It does have a breath taking view. When you try to navigate your way to the top try to use google map It is accurate enough to get you there. If you see someone trying to help you It is probably because they will ask for money at the end. Since it is high up it can real cold so wear something warm too.

Great place to see the old castle and a 360 degrees panoramic views of Ankara. I walked up, from the Ataturk Statue, and came down from the opposite gate, but if you have any health issue, you can come by a car to the gate. Old hilly neighborhood and traditional shops are great to visit. Signage and tourist information could definitely be improved, especially for the international visitors. At 10 am, I was almost alone, but it gets busy soon. I wish the weather was better on the day of my visit. The photos weren't at good as it could be, considering the air pollution.

The best part about the castle is that it gives you the breath taking view of the entire Ankara city. It's a free entry. Heads-up for those who finds difficulty in climbing stairs. But it's worth visiting. Its now surrounded by local gift shops, cafes and shops.

A must-visit place if you visit Ankara, truly a trip back in time, walking through its narrow streets, eating in its typical restaurants, and enjoying an incredible and unique experience make it a magical place. (It is a historical fortification in the city of Ankara, Turkey, built in the 7th century or later. The first fortification of the site was built in the 8th century BC by the Phrygians and rebuilt in 278 BC by the Galatians. The castle was rebuilt or renovated under the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman empires) I really recommend you to go there.

Glimpse into History and Culture: Ankara Castle's Charms Unveiled Historical Time Capsule Stepping into Ankara Castle is like stepping back in time. This ancient fortress, with its massive stone walls and imposing towers, is a testament to centuries of history. The castle dates back to Roman times and has seen the rise and fall of numerous empires. As I explored its labyrinthine streets and pathways, I felt a deep connection to Turkey's rich past. The panoramic views from the castle walls are simply breathtaking. From this elevated vantage point, I could see the modern city of Ankara juxtaposed with the historical beauty of the castle. It's a stunning reminder of how tradition and progress coexist in this vibrant city. A Shopper's Paradise Ankara Castle is not just about history; it's also a bustling marketplace filled with shops that offer an array of authentic handmade products. Whether you're an avid shopper or simply looking for unique souvenirs, you'll find a treasure trove of options here. The marketplace is a kaleidoscope of colors and craftsmanship. Artisans showcase their talents through intricately woven rugs, hand-painted ceramics, exquisite jewelry, and a myriad of other handmade items. The authenticity of these products is apparent, and haggling with friendly shopkeepers adds to the overall charm of the experience. One of my favorite finds was a beautifully woven Turkish carpet. The patterns, the quality of the wool, and the artistry behind it left me in awe. It's now a cherished piece in my home, serving as a tangible reminder of my time in Ankara Castle. Cafes with Character The cafes within Ankara Castle offer more than just refreshment. They provide a delightful blend of tradition and modernity. I enjoyed sipping traditional Turkish tea while admiring the castle's ancient stone walls. The cafes are often adorned with colorful cushions and cozy corners, making them inviting places to relax and soak in the atmosphere. One of the unique aspects of these cafes is their ability to seamlessly blend into the historical surroundings. It's not uncommon to find a cafe nestled within the castle's nooks and crannies, offering patrons the chance to enjoy their coffee while surrounded by centuries-old stone walls. Friendly Faces Everywhere One of the most remarkable aspects of my visit to Ankara Castle was the warmth of its people. The locals are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to strike up a conversation or offer assistance. Their pride in their city and its history is evident, and they are more than willing to share their knowledge and stories. As a traveler, this hospitality is truly heartwarming. I had the opportunity to engage in conversations with locals, learn about their traditions, and even sample some homemade treats that left my taste buds delighted. In conclusion, Ankara Castle is a unique destination that seamlessly weaves history, culture, and commerce into one enchanting tapestry. The fortress stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Turkey's capital, while its bustling marketplace, inviting cafes, and friendly locals make it a vibrant and engaging place to explore. My visit was a journey through time and a window into the heart of Ankara, and I left with a deeper appreciation for both its history and its people. I can't wait to return to this remarkable site and uncover even more of its hidden treasures.

Castle on a topographic high point, with breathtaking panoramic view of Ankara. Feels otherworldly especially at sunset. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ankara. One of the best points to appreciate the city's beautiful geography. But probably not for anyone with fear of heights.

A pleasant place to spend time wandering and exploring. There are plenty of interesting nooks and crannies to explore, especially for the art and craft minded person. Also there's a selection of museums situated around the castle walls. In relation to food, there's plenty of interesting and rustic restaurants to choose from. Last but not least cats! Plenty of those. 🐈

Its good to take a walk to the top of castle in winter. Place is not that tidy . Options for buying things from localities. Not that expensive though. People are amazing. Be prepared for buying some dry fruits outside the castle as its cheap and of quality.

Very beautiful historical place, it’s the historical city of Ankara before modern times, the castle itself surrounds an entire neighborhoods, the houses inside the castle are very beautiful and well-maintained, many cafes and cultural shops are inside, the castle itself is also beautiful but not well-maintained, it was under-maintained in my opinion and more care can be taken. Overall it’s a must-do activity to check out the historical area of the castle whenever you find yourself in the city.

Ankara Castle is a must-visit! I've been four times and adore it, especially for watching the sunset. The view is breathtaking and the historical charm is unforgettable. Just be prepared for crowds during busy times. Overall, a top spot in Ankara!

October 2023 The Ankara Castle is 1 of those small, dilapidated European castles, surrounded by the usual overpriced tourist traps. The Europeans or Byzantines, I forget which, built the castle from "spoila" - a rare word in English, taken from Greek and Roman temples. There were 3 other interesting things: 1. A solo musician was playing the most haunting, melancholy music on his Turkish guitar that echoed through the empty, sad structure. 2. There is a Tourism Office for the Russian City of St. Petersburg inside the castle 3. Among all the over-priced cafés and restaurants, there were a strange assortment of shops selling polished stones, and others selling farm implements. The views of Ankara were pleasant, which means it's full of Instagram idiots. It's really sad to see the signs pointing the way were hand-made with a pental pen on cardboard, plastic bags to collect litter which people ignored and were throwing thousands of plastic bottles in between the castle eaves. We were not impressed, and sadly I would not recommend this place for a visit.

Beautiful place to visit, I’d say this is the best place I had been to so far in the entire city, the views are spectacular not only that the people are more friendly over there, I had great coffee made on coal I recommend everybody to visit if they get a chance to. The entrance is also free so don’t pay if someone asks you to.

It’s a really pretty 360 view of the whole Ankara on top so definitely if you have time, check it out! A lot of the castle has been preserved well so you’ll feel like you travelled back in time. It’s a bit of a hike to get to the top but along the way you’ll see a beautiful restaurant with rainbow umbrellas hanging from the top (when I went, it was closed but I’m not sure if that’s because of COVID) and it’s also located close to the hacibayram mosque so you can come to castle right after visiting the mosque so that you can catch the sunset from the castle.

The best place in Ankara to enjoy view. The street to reach castle is just beautiful, many nice shops. I drink coffee in a small cafe near castle and I tell you their ice latte was nice 💂 😅 I share the picture of that cafe too haha

Amazing view of Ankara. Around the castle and inside there are small houses, all the same, white and dark brown, with the fresh smell of countryside.

Stunning. Visited many castles in Türkiye but this one took the cake. Steep cliff on one side, narrow winding (uphill) streets through the bazaar on the other. Great vista out to the rest of Ankara. Enjoy.

This is the best place I have visited in Ankara. It nice, relaxing and beautiful. Although you might need some strength to climb up but it isn’t that hard. The view on top definitely worth to climb. There are some shops on the way to the castle top that are quite nice with good prices as well.

This castle manifests the Ottoman empire's power and elegance, with its amazing architecture and the astonishing view of the city it provides you with. The main fort was used to meet military needs and watch-towers are visible. It kind of reminded me of strategic games! If you're looking forward to having a unique historical experience with a bit of ancient royal architecture in it, this is for you! Moreover, this castle is actually a small city with uni-colored beautiful houses.

A medieval fortification and old town at the top of a high hill The castle contains a pretty, but touristic old town, that can be pleasant to walk through. The citadel can be entered and the walls of the citadel give some of the best views of Ankara. The topmost parts of the walls are fenced off, but plenty of people climb them for the views. Be warned that there are no railings at the top so this is done at your own risk.

One of my all time fav places in Ankara. Definitely worth the visit. Try visiting really early in the morning. You'll get the entire castle to yourself! Unfortunately, this year I found out they added metal side bars so you can no longer get to the top part, but its still beautiful and you get to view Ankara from above.

Google map directions for this location is actually good! High above Ankara city with a fabulous views of the city. You can walk up from the near by square, take the shared van (if you know Turkish) or drive your car up and park free at the nearby restaurants (if you eat there) or by paying small 20TL fees. Must go place when visiting Ankara along with the nearby museum.
