Sri Oppili Appan Temple is the 60th divyadesam of 108 temples of Sri Vaishnavas. The temple is also known as Thiruvinnagar of Venkatachalapathy. Tirupathy. People who are not able to visit Tirupathy can visit here to give their offerings. Sri Oppili Appan refers none equals Lord Vishnu. The temple is located in Thirunageswaram Village outskirts of Kumbakonam district, Tamilnadu. Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Sri Oppili Appan and Goddess Mahalakshmi as Bhumi Devi ( Mother Earth). Ramanavami, Vaikunda Ekadasi and Sravanam are the regular festivals of the temple. There is a belief that the couple Visits the temple is ensured with Unity and tolerance between them. Here Lord Vishnu granted darshan for Thirumangai Azhwar in 5 forms as Thiruvinnagar Appan, Ponnappan Maniappan, Ennappan and Muthappan. Prasadsms are prepared here without adding salt. So Lord Vishnu is also know as Sri Uppili (no salt) Appan by all. No doubt devotees visiting the temple will be blessed with enormous energy and confidence .

Oppiliappan Temple, also known as Thiruvinnagar of Venkatachalapathy Temple is a temple dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu, located near Thirunageswaram (walkable distance for Arulmigu Naganathar Temple). Considered 60th among the 108 Divya Desams, Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Arulmigu Oppiliappan along with Lakshmi as Bhoomi Devi. Lord Vishnu appears as an old man and seeks daughter of Markandeya (daughter being Lakshmi) upon which Markandeya refuses saying he is too old for his daugther who is too small (too young that she doesn't even know how much salt is to be added in her cooking). Upon which the old man says that even if it is cooked without salt, whatever your daughter prepares will be consumed as the tastiest meal ever but I will not leave it without marrying her. Markandeya in dilemma seeks Lord Vishnu's counsel and realises it was him all along. Thus anything given in the temple as Naivedya or as Prasada is without Salt. One of the attractions is highly energetic Temple Elephant Bhooma who simply doesn't stand still, swaying right and left all the time

My mom took a tour of South India. And she shared her experiences, photos and videos with me. She is a highly spiritual woman and the Sri Oppiliappan Temple was one of her pilgrimage spots. It quickly became her favorite scared site because she completely fell in love with Bhooma Devi, the temple elephant. And I must say, I agree with her. What an adorable gentle giant!

Beautiful and famous temple and one of the 108 Vishnu temples in India. We had a very good darshan and took Olliappan's blessings. Had good prasadam and returned with very happy state. If there is a special darshan for senior citizens, it's better.

It's the 13th Perumal Temple of Divyadesham series located in a village in the outskirts of Kumbakonam, TN. Here Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Oppiliappan. It's very much a commercialized centre now with too many ticket counters and offices. One big elephant is inside which will melt your heart with dance movements. The management won't allow you to sit inside atleast to take rest. Many shops are available selling puja offerings. It's in the main road and can be easily accessible.

(Translated by Google)    Arummiku Somasundari Sametha Someswara (Kundankaikornam) Temple, Kumbakonam.  This is the Lord Swayambu Lingam. The temple was built by the Cholas. This is the 91st Devaradhthalam of the 274 Shiva temples that have been worshiped by Lord Shiva   General Information:  In 1964, the devotees made a different effort. One hundred and fifty people together wrote the five-word chant “Shivaaya Nama”. Instead of wasting what they wrote, they piled up a hundred books in a vault and placed them in the temple. This compact box has been preserved for over 40 years.  Dilapidation: When the immortal pitcher is broken, the scattered tirtha spreads to the ground. This area is named Chandrabushkarani. Over time, the site has become extinct. Kumbakonam Someswarar temple can be seen on the peacock with the footwear on the peacock. The moon and Jupiter are worshiped in the temple of the same name. Therefore it is best to worship this shrine on Mondays and Thursdays. The temple has three pillars. Entering through the Rajagopuram, you can see the Ambassador. Lord Shiva was given the name Malisar because of the worship of Ishwar. If you cross the threshold, you will see the Somnath and neo-lingual. Someshwar and Somasundari can be seen through the northern gate. This is the blessing of the Lord, even if it comes from the Etiyasana. In the inner hall, Somaskandar blesses. The walls of the sanctum sanctorum have eight figures of worship. Kanda has a loss At this site, Nataraja Peruman shows up with Sivakami Amba in a separate shrine. He is labeled as "the loser of the land." Head History:  At one time, the Brahman repented and asked Lord Shiva to do my creative work after the deluge. Lord Shiva said to him, "Now take the sand of the many shrines and mix it with the elixir and make a magic potion. Fill the elixir in it. Put into it the seed of creation, which is the seed of all life. Put a coconut on it. Decorate it with marshmallows. Round the yarn in the kumbha. Put it in a furnace so that it does not sink into the flood. Archery to the bowl. The family will head south in the flood. Then I will be there. ” Accordingly, the Flood occurred during the Flood. The Aquarius floated. Uri, who was the source of the elixir, was scattered. There appeared a lingam. The lingam was worshiped by the moon. Hence the name of Lord Somesvara. This is a very important temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, situated at Thirunageswaram (old name was Thiruvinnagaram) near Kumbhakonam, Tanjhabhur district of Tamil Nadu. This is one of the 108 Divyadesham of Lord Vishnu. The temple was constructed in the 8th Century CE by the Chola Kings. There is a peculiar custom followed in this temple. Salt (Sodium Chloride) is not allowed here. The temple is constructed in the typical Dravidian style with a tall Gopuram, a big Mandapa and a sanctum with a tall tower or Vimana (called Suddhananand Vimana). The Mandapa has beautifully decorated big pillars. There are two metallic statues of Lord Vishnu on either side of the door connecting the outer and inner Mandapas, and two other statues of the Lord (made of stone) on either side of the door connecting the inner Mandapa with the sanctum. The sanctum houses the standing Murti of Lord Vishnu made of black stone. Sitting on the floor with folded hands on His right side is the Murti of Bhumi Devi, and on the left is the Murti of the sage Markendya. The temple tank is known as "Ahoratra Pushkarani" where salvation is granted if anyone takes bath during the day as well as at nights. This is a unique thing about this tank. Usually it is believed that salvation is granted if someone takes bath in the sacred tanks only during the day time. The temple has a big & beautiful Temple Elephant who is trained to collect money offered to it and to bless the donor by touching his/her head with its trunk. P.S. Photography is not allowed inside the temple.

A famous Vishnu temple in Thanjavur. Main diety is Oppiliyappan with bhooma devi thayar and munivar near to him. The name came from the Tamil Oppillatha appan Oppiliyappan. It is one of the 108 divya Desam situated nearer to Kumbakonam. Very calm temple and the diety stands tall. People in the temple says praying him itself enough other gods blessings will falls to you if you seek his blessings. This temple has an elephant name Bhooma. Also a temple pond exists here which has another story of a king who was punished by a saint to become a crow. After accidentally falling in this pond, crow becomes a king again. Direct bus facility is not available so local autos may be hired for coming here. Near by temples are Raaghu sthalam and prathyangira temple.

The temple is believed to be of significant antiquity and to have been initiated by the Medieval Cholas of the late 8th century AD, with later contributions at different times from Thanjavur Nayaks. The temple has two inscriptions dating from the Chola period, a five-tiered rajagopuram (gateway tower), and a granite wall. The complex contains all the shrines and water bodies associated with it. Oppiliappan is believed to have appeared for sage Markandeya and Hindu gods Bhoomadevi, Brahma and Shiva. The temple observes six daily rituals and three yearly festivals. The chariot festival, celebrated during the Tamil month of "Panguni" (March–April), is the most prominent.

Shri Venkatachalpathy Swamy (popular as Oppiliappan) temple is near Kumbakonum. One of the Divyadesams. A special feature of the temple is that the food for neyvedyam (food offering) of the Lord is made without salt. As per legend, Lord Vishnu appearing as aged man asked the hand of Shri Markendeya Maharishi's young daughter (incarnation of Lakshmi) in marriage. When Maharishi informed that she is young and can not even cook with proper salt, Lord insisted that he will eat without salt but will marry her. The prasadams sold to devotees here are also without salt. Though centuries old, the temple has been recently renovated and looks great. Had divine darshan of the Lord with golden armour (thanga kavasam) on a Saturday. The temple pond inside is neat and clean.

Someswar Temple is a Padal Petra Sthalam (Sung by Gnana Sambhandar) There are 278 Padal Petra Sthalams (Sung by Great Saivaite Saints (Appar, Sundarar, Gna Sambhandar & Manickavachakar) Someswarar Temple, is in the heart of the Kumbakonam town, on the banks of Lotus Tank, by the side of the Kumbeswarar Temple. This is one of the 12 Shiva temples of Kumbakonam associated with the Mahamaham festival. The old name of this temple is Kudanthai Karonam. It is on the Southern side of the Sarangapani Temple. As per the Sthala Puranam, when holocaust ( Pralaya ) took place and everything on the earth was destroyed, Brahma, creatior sought the help of Shiva. Lord advised Him to collect sand from all holy places and make a pot using the nectar and fill it up with nectar. He was also advised to keep the Creation Seed ( Shrusti Beeja) in the pot and cover it with coconut and mango leaves and decorated with the holy thread. ( Typical Kumbam we use on all auspicious poojas at homes). He was further advised to keep the pot safely in a sling/net ( Uri in Tamil) so that it does not get tilted. Brahma did as advised and the Kumbam started floating in the flood and when it neared this place, Shiva appeared and broke the pot. The nectar started flowing out and a tank was created. This came to be called Chandra Pushkarni. Later the sling itself became a lingam and hence came to be called Sikkesar ( Sikkam means sling or Uri ). Another reason given for this name is that as He comes rushing to remove the sikkals ( the Tamil word for problems/difficulties) of His devotees, He is called Sikkesar. Since Chandra had worshipped here to get relief from some curse, the Lord came to be called Someswarar. ( Soma is Chandra ). Apart from Chandra, Jupiter also worshipped here. ( Due to this, this Lord came to be called Vyazha Someswara as Vyazha refers to Guru or Jupiter. Since Vishnu is also believed to have worshipped here, the Lord is also called Mallesar ( Thirumal is the other name of Vishnu). This lingam is in the Prakaram. There are three entrances to this temple. The most preferred entrance is the one where Kalyana Vinayakar is having the shrine . Must have darshan.

One of the 108 Divya Desams. This place is well maintained. Adorning the Lord with long tulsi garlands is the main offering here. There is a temple elephant that blessed everyone. This places attracts a lot of devotees from far and near. The Prasads offered to this Lord don't have salt in them

Very big and excellent temple in Kumbhakonam. All the 108 Divya Desams paintings are arranged beautifully on the outer pradakshina walls both sides. The elephant of the temple is very active and cordial. Prasadams will be without salt but very tasty.
