This tunnel was built by the British and can be quite challenging to cross with opposing traffic. Particularly when a sizeable vehicle is approaching yours, you feel a little helpless knowing you have no where to pull for space.

Narrow tunnel which unfortunately I had to walk through to get into town from my hostel. I did not enjoy walking through it as not enough room for cars and people. They could really do with a building a special pedestrian area.

It’s a tunnel with about 400m long. But tall, wide vehicles can’t be traveled on that tunnel. So that if any big vehicles enters by mistake the both side of the tunnel will be blocked. This tunnel beautiful in the night. And it is also a historical tunnel

This tunnel is one of the oldest tunnel build in Colonial era. Many old people says its the tunnel which only seconds to the Kadugannawa tunnel. This tunnel is located between Katukelle and Aniwatta by making a great shortcut to the Kandy - Dodamwela - Katugasthota road, which leads to Kurunegala, Matale and Jaffna. From Dodamwala junction it lenghts about 1.5 km and from Kandy, its about 2.5 km. There is a height limit of about 6 ft and its width makes space enough to move two vehicles at once. It has humps inside the tunnel to avoid speed and the speeding sound inside the tunnel to avoid stone falling and to keep the bats calm inside it. It also carries a speciality of atmosphere by keeping the inside surface ice cold by dropping ice cold water which comes along natural fountains of the hills. Anyone can walk at anytime here. Oh, there is a marvelous thing happening here. You can witness two weather conditions here at the same time. One side on rain, one side on sunny. This tunnel has been a scenic location to the local and international film industry too. Please leave footprints only.

An Old and bit long tunnel, closed to kandy city. It's a short cut to the city. Easily 2 small vesicles, cars / vans can pass. There is a height limit, so even Google map shows the route, don't get in to that if you're not sure. Also in a rainy day the tunnel crossing is not a good choice for me. For walking inside the tunnel, when there's is traffic, not a good experience. When there is heavy traffic and if you're stuck in the old Kandy road and if you need to get to Katugastota road, passing Anniewatta Tunnel can be experienced.

There's two main tunnels for the cars and vehicles in Kandy town. One of which is this one. It's a bit spooky to go through this as there's less lighting. But it's a good drive through. It's not much of a long one. Yet nice. Ps. Even some Kandy people are scared to go through 😁

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Mesmerizing view. Must visit during evening. No tickets. A good place to stop at and see the amazing view of Kandy city. We stopped here on our way to the famous Sri Maha bodhi temple. The place wasn't too crowded and there are some local vendors around.
