A sad outing. Croc's water was like pea soup .. lemurs in nasty concrete floored cages.. sigh. Gardens unkept. There is a general air of neglect - and it is not simply about shortage of funds,.. it really doesn't cost big money to use some shears to cut the grass, or pick up rubbish, or to pull out weeds etc.

It's a fun place if you don't want to get out to one of the national parks or reserves and just see some animals and the variety of plants Madagascar has right here in Tana! Locals basically go in for free, we opted not to have a guide and just roamed around on our own. We had a fun time on their manual ferris-wheel... it was a person jumping on it and pulling it down by force, so fun!

The best about it the guide, check out Bruno he's fun, informative and passionate. The zoo is small but had over 14 types of lemurs. This is a caged zoo, but a good place to start learning about what to expect.

Unfortunately, quite poor garden, suffering animals in unsufficient conditions, mess and rubbish all over the garden, damaged plants and trees (marked and scratched by visitors), many empty spaces, dead animals (I saw 1 bird and 1 chameleon). Well, don't expect standards like in developed countries. Artificially created biotopes have a nice idea, but the reality will bring disappointment..

The place have known a better days. The large endemic biodiversity of Madagascar is not present there. It has become just like any other walking park, a quiet place in the city.

All zoo's are meant to be education centres for wildlife viewers and Tsimbazaza zoo although poorly maintained does give visitors a close up view of Lemurs and a few other birds and reptiles. Before visiting a National park a visit to this zoo is beneficial. The zoo has a excellent " Natural History Museum " next to it that has original fossils and skeletons of extinct Madagascar species.

Great place to know Madagascar in Miniature. They have many local Animal. Although unfortunately I wonder why They don't have FUZA. It's so many in Madagascar but they can't capture a couple for Tourists see from close range. The Zoo Keeper can make the Eagle and the Lemur making noise . Even greeting us. Very funny.
