Mount St. John's Medical Centre

Medical center

👍 This medical Centre literally saved my life. Well the Doctor said that she did when I suffered an ischemic attack a few years ago. I have visited there on several other occasions for various medical reasons (rehab, out-patient and as a visitor). I have 2 Nieces, a Nephew and 2 sisters-in-law work... People often mention medical, hospital, test, care, staff, hours,

This medical Centre literally saved my life. Well the Doctor said that she did when I suffered an ischemic attack a few years ago. I have visited there on several other occasions for various medical reasons (rehab, out-patient and as a visitor). I have 2 Nieces, a Nephew and 2 sisters-in-law working there. The free WiFi makes it more convenient. the view is quite good as well. Recently I had a The opportunity to experience the facilities from the perspective of a in-patient and benefitted from professionalism and genuine care and attention of the Nurses, Doctors and ancillary staff. The meals were healthy and delicious and you were allowed to preorder your preference from menu choices.

Please be aware tourists, this hospital does nothing quickly and gives incredibly poor service. We spent hours here trying to arrange a COVID test as the rules changed while we were in Antigua. When we were finally able to get one, they promised the results would be available on the same day. They were not. We followed up and they said they would get it to us by the end of the next day. It still didn’t come. The flight needed a test within 72 hours so we called again (the airport called for us) as we were supposed to be leaving that day. Again, they assured us the test results would be in by 11am. They weren’t. We had to physically go to the hospital to get the results! Then the receptionist just sat at her desk saying there was nothing she could do to help. I had to go wonder around this hospital to find a Doctor who would do something to help me. Finally, he sent them. Absolutely infuriating experience. It also costs $200 US Dollars a test. A lot of money to pay for nothing but poor service and stress.

Terrifyingly poor hospital. 2 stars because the nursing staff I dealt with went above and beyond, but everything else was shocking. A little boy with extreme burns was forced to wait, shivering in shock, for 4 hours. I expected the A+E to be packed if someone with his injuries had been left, but no. Paper pushing Doctor’s wandering the halls, not attending to patients, physicians on their phone playing games - awful. The ultrasound technician in particular should not be allowed to practice medicine. He was absurdly rude, had a low standard of hygiene, and appeared incompetent. Low levels of cleanliness, no effort made to separate Covid patients, and it cost close to $1000 (US) for the privilege of a 7 hour ordeal (with unbelievably substandard care.

Needed to got the emergency room on Sunday night for swollen ankles that I accuired during my stay on the island and sudden purple fingertips. When I got the emergency room there were about 20 people there with babies, teens etc...The floor of the room had food and water bottles strewn all over. The reception lady finally came out took my vitals etc....I FINALLY got in to see the doctor at 3:00 a.m. Monday morning. That was a four hour wait. Other patients there have been there 12 hours and yes they did get in . Not a professional hospital at all and I wouldn't wish that place upon anyone needing medical attention

This hospital is what nightmares are made of. It is dirty with fire ants crawling everywhere. No soap or toilet paper. The attitude of the nurses was terrible. Feeding sick people cut up cold hotdogs for breakfast when there is a cafeteria downstairs full of wonderful food. Ridiculous rules, racism, and NO beside manner. I was in a car wreck before I left and refused medical care because i KNEW the experience would be horrid. This hospital needs major help, do not go there.

I honestly don't understand why people complain about the hospital. Because the wait is minimal, the surrounding is kept clean and sanitized, the staff are very polite and professional considering the pandemic, every precaution that can be taken is for health reasons of course. I owe alot to the staff at MSJMC, they are very underrated, they deserve all the praise for their great work effort.

I am a registered nurse with over 30 years of experience who currently work at one of the largest and most reputable medical centers in Miami, Florida. I had the pleasure of working with the physicians and staff at Mount St. Johns's Medical Center on two separate medical trips in 2017. I observed excellent service rendered to the patients. The physicians, especially Dr. Ian Thomas and the anesthesiologists are knowledgeable, caring, patient, and compassionate. They are experts in their area of medicine and never ceased to impress our visiting team members. Further, the nurses and nurse managers were highly engaged in the care of the patients. I would recommend my family and friends to seek medical care at your facility if they are ever in your country. The residents of Antigua are fortunate to have access to great health care at Mount St. John's. Like most hospitals finance is usually a barrier, however, in spite of these challenges, the staff at Mount St. John's rises to the occasion. Regards, Michelle Chen, RN

We came here at 5am for covid PCR test, the price for tourists is 200$ usd, compared with 100$ for locals. Doctor came at 5.40 and told us to feel out more papers again, big line was quick gone. The service is ok, prices are terrific! Not very welcoming for tourists. If you want the doctor come to your hotel - pay extra 50$ per person. Antigua medical government corruption!

Terrible experience, I paid 200 dollars for a PCR test. I got it done at 5:30AM by their request so as to get me the test in time for my flights to come. The test result NEVER came, I phoned all day and was told the results were arriving, UNTIL THEY TOLD ME, OOPS, THE COVID AREA IN THE HOSPITAL IS CLOSED AND STOPPED PICKING UP THE PHONE. I wasn´t allowed onto the flight. I had to pay for an extra emergency test to deliver to the airport by chance I knew a local medic. 48 hours have passed AND I STILL HADN´T DELIVERED MY RESULT. I AM DEMANDING A REFUND, AND NO ONE IS REPLYING TO ME. ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL, THIEVES

Presently sat in the emergency room having eaten half a toxic ‘death apple’ (local said it was Guava) - zero attention. No reassurance, no triage. Life or death situation and I’m here writing a google review incase my friend and I don’t make it. So you don’t choose this one!

My niece is presently in this hospital I am certain she is septic. I spoke with the Dr by phone as I am in the US. I explained she was due back for her cancer treatment the tubes in her back were paining her they have most likely caused a bacterial infection she is septic pls begin antibiotics. He said not to lecture him about medical care WHAT?! He said we will send labs to check They said she’s not going to make it through the night. For his sake just give the two proper antibiotics to save her! This hospital is a nightmare. God be with my niece.

You call and call and call and the calls ring out and your lucky if you get someone to answer your call. It's either the phones don't work or there is no one there to answer calls. This is bad for a medical institution.

My daughter was brought by ambulance because she had seizures for the first time, they put an IV, and charge her $800 dollars, after a few minutes they told her that they needed the stretcher for another pt, So they took her to the waiting room seat her on a chair without identifying her, no ID bracelet, she was by herself because she studies in that Island, no one to help her, after a few hours and having another small seizure she ask for help or leave and they told her “Is you want to leave leave but you have to take out your IV, she did and blood everywhere and then they were mad about it
