Amazing structure of stone constructions are present.One of the finest Buddha statues of this period in history can be seen here.Truly remarkable,just like Samadhi Buddha statue .A must see for any religious beliver,this fine lines made on stone is truly unimaginable. Can also see the remains of an aurvedic hospital(Herbal bath) and the remains of medicine grinding stones etc.Marvelously carved guard stones( mura gala) and balustrade(korawakgala) must be observe carefully,spending some time. *Neglected decades,by conservation authorities this place is been reclaimed by the jungle now.Non accessible roads adds more issues.A simple hut is made as the only preservation method to the Buddha statue.Truly sickens to see the level of neglect. Bushes and grass meters high,relics exposed to the eliments,no security or fence to keep the wild animals and robbers out.Hopefully the relevant authoritys will implement a proper system of preservation of this heritage to the future.

Ashokaramaya complex has one of the best carved Buddha statues and equals the famous Samadhi Statue as well as the Tholuvila Statue. The statue is belonging to the 9th - 10th century and finished using dolomite. The complex is surrounded by several ruins but neglected for over years. Fortunately, an attention has given to study and protect the site now.

Pankuliya Pankuliya or Ashokaramaya is a Pabbatharama Monastery. Mr. R.W. Leverse reported about this monastery in 1887 and as a result, Mr. H.C.P Bell explored it and made a report on it. The stupa, Bodhigharaya, Palimagharaya, Uposathagharaya are religious buildings which can be seen in the middle of the Monastery and also many buildings which were used as sangharama can be seen around it. Moreover, there is a Buddha statue , which was made of limestone. It is about six feet in height belongs to the 4th century AD. The scholars point out that hand posture depicts the Ahakwana Muddra. It is also mentioned that this vihara complex was used as a nunnery according to the factors of the inscriptions.
