A Colonial Legacy! 10/10♥️ Totally worth the money. One of the most calm and peaceful places I’ve ever been to🍃😇 This place Built a century ago, in the time of the British Governor, Henry Arthur Blake, the Sanctuary at Tissawewa, known as Grand Hotel Anuradhapura back then, is a colonial style hotel that encapsulates undeniable old-world charm. Hotel staff was super-super-friendly and their service is 5 star ⭐️ (Specially Shantha & Damith - they told us the history behind this hotel and many more stories of the ancient city of Anuradhapura) Everything in the hotel rhyme with the colonial architecture. Rooms are well appointed and clean (They have Double,Triple & Family Rooms - family rooms can accommodate for 4). Food was really tasty👌🏻 This place is located in the Pooja Nagaraya (There are very few hotels located in this area). Also they are giving you free bicycles at day time🚲. I’ve been to the ancient city many times and believe me cycling is the best way to explore the ancient city. Distance from the hotel to Atamasthana - අටමස්ථාන as follows; 1. Mirisawetiya - 220 m 2. Sri Maha Bodhiya - 1 km 3. Lowamahapaya - 1.1km 4. Ruwanweli Maha Seya - 1.3 km 5. Thuparanaya - 1.6 km 6. Jethawanaramaya 2.5 km 7. Lankaramaya - 3 km 8. Abhayagiriya - 3.5 km Would highly recommend this place to anyone who love colonial architecture and peaceful place to stay in Anuradhapura♥️

Nice place to stay in Anuradhapura. Excellent food, quiet place. Staff was also extremely helpful. Only issue is the lack of strong internet connection. Rooms are spacious and located in a convenient location where almost all historic places can be reached within a short period of time. Definitely recommend for both local and foreign visitors.

It feels like a real sanctuary in the middle of Archaeological sites. Rustic Colonial hotel with a huge peaceful ground surrounding. The room upstairs is much bigger than the standard room at the back building. Room is clean but bathroom fitting is old. The wall & door insulation is not sound proof so we got woken up by early riser local guests every morning. The breakfast & dinner are exceptional standard. Staff is super helpful. It’s worth staying if you enjoy the colonial charm of this beautiful site. We used the hotel’s bicycle for free & had a beautiful day exploring around the archeological sites. High recommended!

Beautiful old building upgraded with modern facilities to make an excellent stay over especially when doing a tour of the sacred city of Anuradhapura. Centrally located in close proximity to all the impotent sites. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful trees making it a true sanctuary. Could savour the peace and Tranquility of the holy city. Spacious rooms which fairly well appointed. Large clean toilets. Decent local food which was what we opted for during our stay. Attentive staff.

If you are looking for a classic holiday spot, this is one of the best places in Anuradhapura. It has got the classic and old feeling. Service and the staff is good. Food is also good. And the place is open for photoshoots also.

Recommended. One of the best hotel stays in A'pura. The food is amazing and had a variety of taste. Sri lankan rice and curry was the best. I'd give 5/5. The staff is friendly. The environment here is heavenly, crowded with trees, peacocks and monkeys. I'm sure no one will regret the stay here. I'd comeback. 🙂

We were at the hotel last week. I was looking for a good place to stay close to Ruwanweli Maha Seya and Sri Maha Bodhiya. From the time of check in and check out it was all great. We were looked after very well by the staff. They were all very helpful and with full of smiles. They prepared all the meals according to our wish and all very tasty. Also with great care. Rooms and dinning hall, cutlery all very clean. A Doctor was there to do a medical checkup on staff the day we checked out. Must thank the management for having high standerd of the hotel and staff. Looking forward to our next stay.

Hot water system is the worst ever I have seen, don’t recommend this hotel with kids, I was literary burnt. Their western food service is horrible, but sei lanka food is good. Place is beautiful but so many mosquitoes and they dont do any thing about it. A/C is making so many noises

Had my wedding shoot here. This is a boutique hotel that can be used as a photo location. This is an average place and does not have many places inside to have a great shoot. Rate is too high and does not worth it for a shoot.

Wonderful colonial hotel right in the middle of Mahameuna uyana. Walking distance to many of the major historical sights. We rode bicycles (provided by hotel) and spent a lovely afternoon exploring. Hotel has a massive garden with its own wildlife. Rooms are large and comfortable. Bathrooms are good. As this is an old hotel, everything is on the older side but nothing to complain about.everything works and everything is clean. Food and service is fantastic. Thilanka and Eranga at the front desk were very helpful and the serving staff were also very good. Food is served as 5 courses and everything was very tasty. Overall it was a lovely holiday for us given that the hotel was comfortable, clean, provided good food and had a fantastic location.

Just stopped here for lunch. The property is beautiful, service is ok, toilets are clean. Food was so so, I ordered lake fish with fried potatoes and vegetables, but instead, I got tempura style vegetables (though no potatoes) fried in waayyy too much coconut oil. Fried rice with chicken was good. Prices were good.

A really serene and peaceful place. The room was spacious and had a rustic charm about it. Food was great, especially the watalappan they served was delicious, but the breakfast menu lacked choice and can be improved. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive however, the same cannot be said about the reception and the office staff as they lacked professionalism and were very biased towards the foreigners. What I found the best about this place was it's location which made it very easy to visit the religious places. They rent out bicycles for sightseeing and in your free time, you can check out the herbal spa or practice archery and shooting. Overall it was a pleasant stay and would definitely recommend this place.

It’s a 150 year old ancient Governor’s property & the Queen of England had stayed there during a visit to Sri Lanka. Ideal food when on a pilgrimage to Anuradhapura. Rooms can be a bit more comfortable. Excellent service by staff.

Very quiet 3* hotel located very close (with in 1km) to Ruwanweli seya and Srimaha bodhiya. They provide bicycles. Hotel is run with minimum staff who are friendly and flexible. Rooms are clean and average.

Absolutely gorgeous colonial style hotel. Monkeys and peacocks roam the extensive gardens. Perfect for taking tea and enjoying the ambience. Walking distance to large stupa and close to the entrance of the main tourist/religious sites.

👍👍 A very good hotel to stay in if you are visiting the ancient Sacred City of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. Located in a tranquil, wooded land with ample garden and parking space.
