Great place to enjoy your weekend or evening. 😊😊 Suitable for bath but it's prohibited because water supply to Anuradhapura city is mainly by this tank. Great place to canoeing 🚣 but you have to supply your own canoe. 🛶 Largest tank in Anuradhapura but in dry season water level get very low. You can also use tank bund for jogging & riding your bicycle 🚲 in early morning or evening.

(Translated by Google) The Kandy Lake was considered to have been built during the reign of King Gajabahu during the reign of 1114-1136 AD. Nuwara Wewa is known as Narakarawadi and Pattasasanapi. The Kandy Lake, which is hundreds of acres of land cultivated with lands cultivated with paddy fields, is silently serving its place. The inland fishery industry also contributes to the fisher folk around Nuwarawewa, which is a tremendous asset. 🇱🇰🏞️ Located on the east side of Anuradhapura, this is the 🌊largest of the three great man-made tanks in Sri Lanka. Covering an area of about 12 sq km, it served as a crucial irrigation channel in ancient times. 🏭🌾 Constructed by King Valagamba during the first century BC. 👑🏛️

Nuwara Wewa is the largest of the three man made reservoirs in Anuradhapura The other two are Basawakkulama ( Abaya Wewa) and the Tissa wewa. Nuwara Wewa is believed to be built by King Vattagamini Abaya popularly known as King Valagamba in the first century BC.💙💙 The environment here is very beautiful. It also has interesting surroundings. And it is a special thing to say that we have a duty to bring back all the things we take to such beautiful places. Then we have the ability to protect our things. 💙😘🙊 (_Chamathka Thuduhena_❤️‍🩹😘)

It is one of the biggest man made reservoirs in Anuradhapura. It is believed that this was built by King Walagamba. But should park at your own risk since it's of the main roads. Very beautiful place. Calm place. You can see very beautiful seen every morning and evening. You can watch fishing and very beutiful birds in the morning It consists of water about 150 millions cubic meters and covering of area about 4000 hectares with a 4 km long embankment. Earlier and now, it serves water to the for agriculture and human activities of the Anuradhapura area.

One of the biggest and beautiful tanks in Anuradhapura. You can have a bathe safely in this tank. But you have to be careful if you are going down from other points rather than the designated areas. This tank also provides drinking water for major areas of the city.

One of the largest tanks in Anuradhapura built during Anuradhapura kingdom era. Can reach from Jaffna junction, Mihintale road side as well as from Anuradhapura city side via Maithripala Senanayake Mawatha. There are places stipulated for safe bathing. Water levels of the tank decreases significantly during dry season.

Nuwara Wewa is on the east side of Anuradhapura city. And this lake is the biggest lake in Anuradhapura. (The other 2 lake in Anuradhapura area are Basawakkulama Wewa and Thissa Wewa). This lake is built around 1st century BC by the King Vatta Gamini Abhaya. The King was more popular as “Valagamba”. The lake is 4.8km’s long (the bund) and 37 feet high. The water height is about 23 feet. The tank covers around 3180 hectares and contains 1500 million cubic feet of water. There is a dam built across the Malwathu Oya to divert the water to Nuwara Wewa. The dam is 33 feet wide, 160 feet long and 8 feet hight. There is a flood scape also available to divert the excess water to a river. This tank is little away from Anuradhapura Old City and more closer to New Town.

Nuwara Wewa is the largest of the three man made reservoirs in Anuradhapura. The other two are Basawakkulama ( Abaya Wewa) and the Tissa wewa. Nuwara Wewa is believed to be built by King Vattagamini Abaya popularly known as King Valagamba in the first century BC. It is located very close to Anuradapura town. According to H. Parker in Ancient Ceylon (1909), based on the size of bricks used which is similar to bricks in Abayagiriya Stupa, the tank was built in the first 20 years of the 1st century BC. Based on the bricks again, he believes that repairs were made to the tank in the 3rd Century and again in the 5th Century.

We stayed near Nuwara wewa at Margosa lake resort. Went to a nearby canal to swim and take a bath. Our kids loved it. Massive man made tank. A lot of local tourists swim and bath in located safe places around the lake. But, must be extremely careful when bath in these lakes since some hiddeen muddy places could be deadly.

I had a bath with my family members on 16.04.2019 and all of us got a irritated itching problem. When I googled I found the below description and here with I quote "Swimmer's itch is a temporary, itchy rash caused by small worm-like parasites called schistosomes (shiss-toe-soams). Schistosomes spend their life cycle as parasites in the bodies of water snails and in the blood stream of aquatic mammals, ducks or other waterfowl. During their life cycle, schistosome larvae leave their snail host and swim near the surface of the water, looking for bird and mammal hosts." However this infection will goes off within a few days time.(appx 3-7 days ). Please consult your family doctor if itching turns really bad. Please share this message with your friends and family.
