Permanent
vision
loss/anesthesia
error:
My
mother
traveled
from
the
United
States
to
Korea
to
receive
spinal
surgery
at
this
hospital
because
she
heard
that
the
surgeon
there
was
excellent.
Though
the
procedure
itself
was
effective,
she
woke
up
from
the
anesthesia
with
complete
vision
loss
in
her
left
eye.
It
was
due
to
an
anesthesia
error
shutting
off
blood
flow
to
the
optical
nerve
and
retina,
and
causing
vision
loss.
She
did
not
wake
up
from
the
anesthesia
for
3
hours
after
surgery.
Carotid
arterial
retinal
occlusion
is
a
rare
occurrence:
1
in
60,000
surgeries
with
general
Anesthesia.
This
is
not
a
hospital
to
trust
with
your
surgery.
The
doctors
have
not
met
with
her
during
post
surgery,
and
it
had
been
2
days
since
surgery.
They
have
ordered
tests
and
imaging
but
they
have
not
come
to
even
see
her
nor
have
they
taken
responsibility.
This
is
not
a
hospital
that
holds
its
doctors
to
a
standard
of
excellence
or
integrity.
