I had the pleasure of visiting the Robert Lewis Stevenson Museum on Saturday September 10th. The drive up to the museum was a lovely long driveway up to the Museum which is a very grand house!. I was met by Esa the tour guide who kindly took me around the various rooms whilst telling the insightful and unique story of Robert Lewis Stevenson and his family who ended up in Apia, Samoa. Esa my tour guide was incredible she had amazing knowledge of the whole story of the Robert Lewis Stevenson family and their incredible life in Apia, Samoa. It truly was heartwarming and since I have been living in Apia for 3 months it’s been the biggest highlight for me. Esa had a close relationship with the previous owners, and you could really feel the warmth of the tour resonating through her words. The house and grounds are simply amazing, very tranquil and relaxing and you feel this even more directly after the tour. I cannot recommend any tourist visiting Samoa highly enough to visit the Robert Lewis Stevenson Museum you won’t be disappointed. I will be aiming to come back to walk up to Robert's tomb in the near future which you can access via the museum. Thank you to the lovely friendly staff for a fantastic experience.

Lots of memories and it's amazing how this brave man managed to live in a hot country like 🇼🇸. It's very interesting that he had his own little nursing room, a fire place which is very unusual. I encourage others to go and experience the beautiful lifestyle of this man that he called Samoa his home. He's a Hero.

A grand homestead in wonderful grounds, with a fascinating story. Our guided tour was worth the wait, the guide was knowledgeable and informative, and knew the answers to our questions. The homestead itself has been filled with interesting artifacts from the period. We didn't have time to walk to the tomb on top of Mt Vaea, but having RLS's Requiem sung to us by one of the staff more than made up for it.

Loved this museum and especially the women tour leaders and lady in shop. Very warm personalities and depth of knowledge. Obviously care for the subject. Great singing of the requim at end. Nice little walk to the small waterfall under the hill where Robert Louis Stevenson I'd buried.

Recommend visiting here, we had a young 20 yr old guide but she was good, knew her stuff and very friendly. The history of the place and Robert Louis Stevenson was something we had no idea about. Thank you

What a beautiful place and a wonderful tribute to him, his family, and the influence Samoan culture had on them. I didn't have any detailed questions but those i asked were answered well. Very relaxed tour in terms of access and speed, even though they were setting up a wedding in the back (imagine it!).

Just visited the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum in Apia. The guided tour was fantastic. Our guide "Alofa" did a great job, especially given it was her first time. We loved every minute of our time there and it is well worth visiting if you are in Apia.

Beautiful Homestead in stunning grounds. Very informative guided tour (included in entry fee) on the life and times of RLS. Make a day of it by visiting the lovely Botanic Gardens right next door.

The grounds and museum are beautiful, the guide was nice and informative. The lower score is due to the fact that most of the items in the museum are not authentic, but rather put there for illustration, which diminishes the experience in my view.

Lovely grounds, building and interesting history. Tour guides are very good and beautiful singing. Definately recommend if you are a literary buff or RLS fan.

As long as I live and remembered this place when Malietoa Tanumafili 11 took me&my brother, Chessire to Vailima Robert Louis Stevenson place. Long ago without my family know we been kidnapped right after School at Malifa Primary School. I was 10yrs old and Chessire was 8yrs old. I was scared because that was normal for a girl but my brother, he was enjoyed his company with Malietoa. Those days i didnt know who he is? Or the King of Samoa. We are kids and why me&my brother? But he knew where we lived in Tanugamanono where our uncle Unasa Viliamu O'brien address. Later on when grandma, Fualama told me the stories of our Malietoa side of the families; Su'a, Unasa&Seiuli these are brothers and the Malietoa families roots etc. To be continue!

Fabulous time spent at Villa Vailima today. only 1 other carload, so we really felt the charm and peace. Ese made the rooms we toured with her come alive. She had great knowledge and pointed out the authentic furnishings etc. Then bought tears to my eyes singing a final poem as a farewell. Thank you Ese 😊 💓. We walked up to grave at the top of the mountain. The steep track nearly killed me! Recommended for the fit! It started to rain so coming back was slippery.. .not for jandals. Highly recommend the whole experience.

As I walked towards the Museum it was clear that it was closed ,it was Saturday [3 days ago] but I was struck by the effort , the building the surrounds and seeing where Stevenson actually wrote . I have always wanted to see "where" he lived in Samoa . I will return , but Saturdays the museum closes early , it is closed on Sunday and I have been advised the museum cam close early during the week . Other travelers also arrived late . So pick a week day and be early to be safe .

The tour guide was so knowledgeable. My daughters (14,8) were entertained by the info given and loved the ease of going around. And the ability to go back and take your time- though you were not rushed through by any means
