13the century Serbian Orthodox monastery - by tradition the coronational church of the Serbian kings, although a king could be crowned in any Serbian church, he was never considered a true king until he was anointed in Žiča.

In the Žiča monastery, dedicated to Christ the Savior, seven kings from the Nemanjić dynasty were crowned in two hundred years. During each coronation, a new door was opened through which only the future king passed after which it was walled up, and precisely because of this, Žiča is called the "Seven Gates".

Žiča is an early 13th-century Serbian Orthodox monastery near Kraljevo, Serbia. The monastery, together with the Church of the Holy Dormition, was built by the first King of Serbia, Stefan the First-Crowned and the first Head of the Serbian Church, Saint Sava. Žiča was the seat of the Archbishop and by tradition the coronational church of the Serbian kings, although a king could be crowned in any Serbian church, he was never considered a true king until he was anointed in Žiča. The architecture of the monastery is in Raška style which combines traditional Slavic architecture with early Christian church-design, and often utilizes a combination of stone and wood material. Some of the frescos in the monastery are made in 13th century and some in 14th century, and all are made in byzantine style. This monastery is one of the gems of Serbian historical heritage and you should definitely visit it.

(Translated by Google) The monastery of Žiča has 800 years of existence, the founder of Saint Sava intended the coronation place of future kings in the place of Kraljevo, full of symbolism. Eight hundred years of existence and uninterrupted spiritual mission of this holy place exudes peace and tranquility. The cradle of Serbian literacy and education has been a beacon of Serbian culture for centuries.

(Translated by Google) The monastery of Žiča, as its endowment, was built by Stefan Prvovenčani, but it is not known for sure in which period it was built. The beginning of the works dates back to the very beginning of the 13th century, in 1206 or 1207, and it is believed that the works on the architecture and partly on the frescoes of the monastery church were completed by the great assembly held in Žiča, on the temple's glory Spasovdan, May 20, 1221 . years (Original)

(Translated by Google) I had the opportunity to have a festive lunch with my colleagues and friends on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the autocephaly of our ORTHODOX SERBIAN CHURCH. Like many shrines from the Middle Ages, Zica is the endowment of the Nemanjic dynasty. The very thought of what the monastery church has suffered through 8 centuries, and that it is still preserved in its original form, is the fact how much we Serbs are a great people and the thought that we paid for the preservation of the sanctuary and lives through those centuries to fascination, spiritual peace and respect for all that at the same time when I find myself in such a place as the Zica monastery. Well, my dear citizens of our beautiful Serbia, let us be worthy descendants of Saint Sava and other saints from the Nemanjic dynasty.
