One of my favorite trails on Gabriola Island. Peaceful. Lushy and obviously the Majestic Elder Cedar. Took approx 30min to slowly do the loop.
Beautiful old growth forest on gabriola island. Beautiful trees and very lush forest. A must on your adventure. Can walk barefoot for some grounding.
Gabriola Island has a number of special places to visit including the farmers market on Saturday at Agi Hall and Sunday's market at Silva Bay. After the Silva Bay Market we explored Elder Cedar Nature Reserve. This nature reserve is part of the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. There are no signs on the road to indicate where this scared place may be found so after speaking with local residents and consulting our trail map we bought at the farmers market we learned where the driveway is that leads to a small 4 or 5 car parking lot and trailhead. The trail loop is approximately 1.5 km and is an easy trail navigate. There is a stone walking path across a creek and I'll post a picture. The sign says the energy in this land is strong here and together with the natural beauty of this place is a must stop when visiting Gabriola Island. Enjoy the old growth forest and the hollow tree. DIRECTIONS: From Silva Bay head west on North Road. Approximately 200-250 meters west, just past Degnen Road, look for a millage sign in the opposite direction. The driveway to the parking lot is directly across from the 60 KM millage sign.
Beautiful hike, many of the trails were flooded when I walked it, but it was still great.
Beautiful second growth forest with brook running through it. Option of doing the loop or hiking the trail along the beach to Sandwell. Loved it.
This a nice walk after you had dinner or early in the morning .the trees and the animals you can see is amazing how humans can make the difference
Venture into an extraordinary cedar forest, a place that stands apart with its distinctive charm. The expanse is adorned with a diverse array of lush vegetation, creating a mesmerizing tableau of colors and textures that speaks to the richness of the natural world. The trails winding through this enchanting landscape are thoughtfully maintained, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable exploration. Despite its undeniable allure, the area remains refreshingly uncluttered, allowing for a more intimate and immersive experience with nature's wonders. For those seeking a unique and rejuvenating escape, this hidden gem comes highly recommended. Its unparalleled beauty, combined with the tranquility and serenity it offers, makes it a destination worth discovering.
One of my favorite trails. Connects to other trail systems and can get down to the waterfall by the sea shore. It's sad that there aren't more old growth trees there, but that's true for all of the island.
Beautiful relatively short hike, about 2.5 km. Fairly easy nut not for those with mobility issues.
Very easy trail though very muddy right now. No restrooms around.
