An absolute gem you won't forget. This historic house popped up on Google Maps near my hotel. What a wonderful surprise. I stopped by after breakfast and reserved a FREE 12:00 tour in English. The male guide with beard was just wonderful and so informative. Many interesting stories about Senior Vega. It's so fascinating to be inside a house from the 1500s. I enjoyed it more than the Royal Palace.

The house-museum of Lope de Vega is located in the street named after his competitor Cervantes! This contradict is only a glance of the busy exciting life of this pilar of Spanish literature, as it is told by the museum staff. I was super lucky to be the only one in the English guided tour, and had very special care, and one to one time, thanks to Iris! The house is full of stories in every single corner, and offers inside view to the daily life of baroque era. You should write an email or call for reservation before the visit for confirmation. Free entrance. Young, full of energy team, with inspiring vibes around. Don’t miss it.

A very lovely and immersive time! The reservation for a guided tour was quick and easy. The guide was fantastic. She spoke in a clear and engaging way, making it easy to learn while enjoying la casa de Lope de Vega. Overall a great experience that I recommend for anyone that is visiting Madrid and wants to learn more about its history and culture :)

(Translated by Google) Lope de Vega lived in this house until his death in 1635. It has been restored several times although some original furniture is still preserved. At the time this area was on the outskirts of Madrid. I recommend doing the guided tour where they explain how your life was with your family. Theatrical performances can be seen in the courtyard garden and workshops for children. If the guided tour coincides with the theatrical performance, you cannot visit the garden and that has happened today. The guided tour is short, it lasts half an hour, we have been with Susana and it has been very entertaining, the visit always with advance reservation, the groups are small. Admission is free and I recommend it.

You need to call ahead to join a tour group, and I happened to email them to join one in english and was told one was available that weekend. It's not big, and the furniture are not original to the house, but original to the century. Lope de Vega was one of the more prolific writers of his time, and was able to father 17 children while writing literally over a thousand works. Our docent was really friendly and gave us a good tour.

It was nice to see a glimpse of what simplicity in his abode could help achieve a man to express with profound thoughts that is still revered today. For this reason, a pen is indeed mightier than a sword. We were lucky to be received with grace by Ellena Arranz who upon our arrival was kind to accommodate us despite being tardy for our appointment due to an ailing daughter. Thank you! Harmony is pure love, for love is complete agreement. Lope De Vega

Nice tour with a very knowledgeable guide. If you want to learn not only about Lope de Vega’s life and work but also about life in the 16th century this is a good opportunity. It’s kid’s friendly and not too long so they don’t get bored. It’s a free tour, but you need to book it in advance because groups are small which I think makes the visit even better. Definitely recommend.

What a great tour! Our guide was lovely, and she got some really interesting facts and gossips about Lopez de Vega. The house is stunning 👌🏼 and very well preserved. The garden is a must to enjoy the tranquility away from Madrid 🍃

Beyond beautiful and impressive. Although you have to take the guided tour and cannot wander on your own, it was still enjoyable. Guide is in Spanish, but the lady offered some translation. I was hoping to find an English version of the detailed museum guide. Maybe this is something to consider. I would come again to see the garden, it was crowded during my visit. And it is free. Reservation is required.

Great tour, very informative. Our guide, Irene, was super knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting details. Totally recommended, especially given that it is free of charge, you only need to make reservation in advance by sending e-mail.

I had a great time here! They only do guided tours but when I came said tours were free. The guide we had was a really good storyteller and made everything really entertaining. And obviously Lopw de Vega was a very important writer for Spain so learning more about his personal life was very cool. The house itself is also just very pretty and worth seeing for yourself

One of the best quick free tours you can take. You just drop them an email, and they book a 30 min slot to tour the house. Its a really cool trip. The house is in original condition, the old books on all the shelves are amazing, you get a glimpse into the past. Really recommend it !!

Alba was a very professional, nice and attentive guide. Good visit to understand better how was the way of life in Spain in 16th century, and to find out who was Lope de Vega, for those who don't know (like me). Plus the guide tour is free.

  • 5/5 Susan H. 7 months ago on Google
A great visit. We pre booked a tour of the house which was really interesting. Great to see a house of the 17th century set out as it would have been. Our guide Gema was excellent, so informative and passionate about the subject. Looked round the small museum and garden afterwards. Worth a visit but definitely pre book as the tour is only available if you book beforehand.

  • 5/5 DAVID C. A. 7 months ago on Google
This was an incredible tour and the guide was so well informed and expressed the feeling and history of the time the house was lived in by Lope de Vega.

We had an excellent experience! The hose is so beautiful and well decorated. Alba is very knowledgeable and entertaining!

  • 2/5 U O. 11 months ago on Google
We had an English tour with a sweet guide called Alba. The premises are nice but need a further thought and care. Ac box to the courtyard, futuristic pointless led lights in the staircase, garden needing some love and the furniture just pilled up with no sense. But worse was the language skills of the guide. Nobody could follow up and after few minutes trying, no one was understanding nothing and stopped having any interest, while guide was unaware just looking to the floor trying to spill words in a monotone pray. I would say many reviews are fake or visitors leaving there never visited a museum.

Really quick visit to Lope de Vega House! I think it's super cool to see how the windows were taxed back then!!

  • 5/5 Vadim S. 1 year ago on Google
The house was bought by Lope de Vega in 1610. It was opened as a museum in 1935. It is quite a busy place: booking the tour tickets upfront is highly recommended.

  • 4/5 C M D. 1 year ago on Google
The tour of the house is interesting but short (around 20 minutes). It is free, but I would have preferred to pay a few euros and have a slightly longer tour with more comprehensive information about Lope de Vega's life and work.

  • 5/5 Jose B. 1 year ago on Google
Fun, very informative and approachable guide. The museum feels like a really lived-in house. You can imagine Lope de Vega eating and working there. A rare chance for time travel.

If you are a non Spanish speaking tourist, and do not have enough time for Madrid I would say skip this one. If you understand Spanish it is worth it, as it is completely free and you get a private tour of 35 minutes. Note that booking is required. I tried online by mail, and by phone. Nothing worked, but when I went there I magically got a spot for 2 hours later!!

  • 5/5 Daniel S. 1 year ago on Google
Can't believe have lived in Madrid for over a decade and only visited this museum now. Every room beautifully restored, guide was warm and informative, with good mix of history and interesting details about what the house says about what life was like in Madrid in the Golden Age, and length was perfect, 35 minutes. Also cozy garden. Do not miss
