WILL IT STAND AFTER SO MANY YEARS? UPDATE :-) This is one of those restaurants that you know since for ever. So I was somehow afraid if finding a dusty old fashioned restaurant with too classic dishes. No dusty at all and yes classic preparations, thanks God! They keep the essence of classic restaurants with the best products and careful cooking. The jamon is of the best class available, the grilled green asparagus delicious, the broken eggs "huevos rotos" unforgettable, meats tender and tasteful... All was good and service classic (no runners and bussers) but eficient. So I recommend it. And I also recommend a view from the square beside and to the environment in general. >>>UPDATE<<< Today we have been trying some other dishes. On every table they have ready a plate of sliced tomato, please keep it and order some ham, is a heaven combination. Ham from Dehesa de Extremadura is just delicious, superb, excellent. We have also tried grilled white asparagus "pericos" that are a compendium of tenderness and taste. Finally the spring bolletus mushrooms with warm egg yolk and foie are indescriptible. You have to taste them. Problem, still many things that I want to try. Update 2022 the huevos rotos are absolutely delicious, see picture

Madrid's must visit restaurant. Big celebrities have been doing so. It's not such a grand place but it's got its charm.

I really think that this place deserves to have 5 stars. Everything that we had was delicious and very tasty. I read some lower rating reviews and realized that these people does not understand "nothing" from food. Each plate, from the simple tomato salad to the desert was in one word delicious. Highly recommended the "Angulas" and for sure the simple grilled artichoke and for sure the desserts. Highly recommend to have a meal here. The only thing remember that you can reserve a table only by calling them. You do not have the option to reserve on line. The place is very popular for the locals therefore highly recommended to reserve a table. The service that is wonderful is an addition to the place. Signor Alecandro the owner is taking care one by one to each table. That is showing how he care about the service. A must when you are in Madrid.

Just fantastic. Food is amazing. Got the entrecot, broken eggs, the seafood stew, tomato garlic salad, salmorejo and gambas al ajillo. Everything other than the gambas was just amazing and huge servings. The gambas was good but nothing special, quite small and definitely a ripoff at 25 euros. The entrecot was delicious but a single person main dish size. Everything else was very reasonably priced for the quality and was made to share rather than for a single serving. The salmorejo was a revelation. They have limited outdoor seating. The wait staff speak very little English but are very nice and accommodating. Had a fantastic experience. This is a high end place and not cheap for madrid standards - 100 euros for all of the above and beer and water. But definitely worth it. Call ahead to make reservations.

Reservation made for us by the Mandarin Oriental Ritz Hotel concierge; they said it was a great place so I was excited. Was a horrible experience. Waiter was host also- so bazaar. Then he sat us and kept walking away, saying he would be right back. Example: I asked if he had the password for the Wi-Fi (it’s in a basement so cell signal was poor). He said yes, and then just left yet again. Mind you we were the only guests in there at that point as they had just opened (8:30PM). We finally just got up and left. I do not recommend. Plus it smells really bad inside the restaurant.

Great food and great service! This place is full of pictures of famous people who's been there, a good sign of it's international fame. I recommend visiting during the evening/night, so you get nice views of the Cathedral with the night lights on your way out.

Great restaurant, their anchovies are amazing. Great wine, lovely decor and a bit of an 'underground' vibe.

High quality dining with the very freshest of Spanish cuisine. Its intimate, service is the very best and its in a great location. Popular with local and visiting celebrities. You pay for what you get and for quality its a fair price. Upmarket and exclusive. Highly advised to reserve in advance!

Great food, great service, and it's nice and cozy. Apparently hundreds of celebrities have been here based on the photos on their walls. I highly recommend visiting this fantastic place. Also, do try the Contino Rioja Reserva. I had the 2015 vintage and it was superb.

El Landó is a wonderful, classic, Madrileño experience. When you sit at your table, you will have a wonderful tomato carpaccio waiting for you, as well as delicious bread. The dishes are very varied, and offer the most renown dishes from the Spanish capital. Would definitely recommend the Jamon iberico, the pan con tomate, garlic shrimp, patatas estrelladas (potatoes with eggs), and the entrecôte. Desserts are all good to share, and would recommend you to close the night with a Pacharan or another Spanish poussecafé.
